Give Back to the Community
During the month of December students in grades
9-12 will be collecting non-perishable goods for the less
fortunate in the area. Goods will once again be collected
in Social Studies classes from December 1st-18th. This
has been a long tradition at the high school to give back
to those in need in our community. Last year, Whitesboro High School students and staff collected over 3,200
pounds of goods, the largest donation received by the
Utica Rescue Mission during the season.
Whitesboro High School
Participates in Toy Drive
Whitesboro High School is teaming up with WIBX
950s Keeler in the Morning Show launching the 2nd annual "WIBX-Keeler Toy Drive for Operation Sunshine
High School Challenge" from Monday, November 10th
through Friday, December 5th. Many local schools
are participating…let’s show the Mohawk Valley that
Whitesboro is the most giving and caring school in
the area. Students, staff, and the Whitesboro Central School District community are asked to bring in a
brand new, unwrapped toy ($5.00 minimum). Monetary donations are also accepted. All gifts and donations may be dropped off to Mr. Frye's Student Activities Office or to Mr. Coriale in Room 525. This event
is sponsored by Student Council and the Class of
2015. Any questions, please call the Student Activities
Office (266-3228) or Mr. Coriale (266-3210 x 6525).

On Wednesday, September 17th, the International Club
of Whitesboro High School held a Welcome Reception
for our newest Rotary exchange student Kazu Kitagawa.
Kazu joins us from a small town in Japan.
Kazu is currently residing in Whitesboro with Senior
student, Abby Smith and her family who are hosting her
throughout her first rotation of three host families. Rotary
rules for exchange students state that she will need to
change host families every three to four months. Kazu is
now in her second year of studying English as a second
language and her she continues to improve daily.
The members of International Club, as well as the
school’s faculty and staff, celebrated her arrival with a
reception in her honor after school. This was an opportunity to introduce her to club members. We all wish
Kazu the best of experiences and an enjoyable stay in the
United States and at Whitesboro High School. We hope
to learn more from her about her native country, Japan.
Mr. Christopher Klein, a Social Studies teacher and Mrs.
Lucille Matt, a French teacher, are in their third year as
co-advisors to the International Club.
Whitesboro Students Sponsor
“Hero of Light”
Students in the Classes of 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018
along with Student Council are sponsoring the “Hero of
Light” display at the 13th annual Wonderland of Lights
event to benefit the Resouce Center for Independent Living
(RCIL), an agency that provides programs and services to
people with disabilities. Additionally, this year representatives of the class will again volunteer to run the event on
the evening of Monday, December 15th from 5-8:30 pm.
Close to 5,000 vehicles will drive through the show with
about 20,000 people attending what has become an annual
holiday tradition in the Mohawk Valley. This opportunity
will help our students learn the value of giving back to
a community that supports them. Without question, the
students of Whitesboro High School also will learn the
true meaning of the season of giving back to those in need.

The Pie Drive Needs You !
This will be our 22nd year donating pies to the
Utica Rescue Mission and First Presbyterian Church
for their Thanksgiving Dinners. Students in Food
and Nutrition classes will contribute their pie making
and yeast bread talents and also work together with
other Family & Consumer Sciences classes to make
homemade apple and pumpkin pies. Over 100 students will be involved in the Pie Drive which takes
place over a day and a half - November 24th & 25th.
These agencies both plan to serve over 1000
people this year so the need is still great! Our goal
this year is to make 350 pies but we hope to exceed
this goal as we do every year. Please consider a tax
deductible donation to the W.H.S. Pie Drive. No
donation is too small! Your thoughtful contribution
makes our goal a reality and the promise of a gift of
a homemade piece of pie to someone less fortunate
come true. Thank you in advance for your support.
Our success is a team effort.
Thank you for being part of the
Whitesboro Pie Drive Team!
Regional Program for Excellence
Jennifer Drager, Claire Hardy, Nolan Huther, Madison Kosuda, Natalie Kozlowski, Stephanie McCoy,
Luke Moore and Rebecca Schrantz were recognized
for their participation and completion in the Regional
Program for Excellence last summer at a ceremony
at Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES on Monday,
September 22nd. Great job!

Blue and White Weekend 2014
Summary of Spirit Week from Student Council Advisor Mr. Kevin Powers
The Whitesboro High School Student Council sponsored “Spirit Week - 2014” during the first week of October as we
prepared for our Homecoming game against Carthage. Activities started for students on Wednesday, October 1st when Student
Council started selling our rally towels in an attempt to get as many students as possible to be a part of our “Warrior Nation”.
Our goal was to promote the idea that we are all part of something special at Whitesboro High School and linked together by it.
On Sunday October 5th, the student body kicked off Spirit Week with a Powder Puff Flag Football game between the
girls of the Junior class against the girls of the Senior class. It was a beautiful night for a football game, with a great crowd
estimated at over 1,000 people. We had over 200 students participating as either players or cheerleaders! The game was won
by the Junior Class with a score of 46-32. During the school week leading up to and then again at the game, we collected
donations from our students, families, and friends to benefit the Faxton-St. Luke’s Comprehensive Breast Care facility and
“The Perfect Fit Boutique” and were able to raise over $1,300.00! Again this year, through the generosity of Bank of America
and Mrs. Lynda Briggs (wife of school security officer Mr. Jerry Briggs), and their matching funds program, we will be able
to make a donation of over $2,600.00! This was a very exciting event and a great way to start spirit week!
We are fortunate enough to have administrators (both curent and retired), teachers, secretaries, district staff and “friends of
Whitesboro” who made this possible: Coordinators: Kevin Powers & Mike Deuel; Announcer: Brian McQueen; Referees:
Tim Maggiolino, John Warner, Rob Jenne, Anthony Coriale; Scoreboard: Donna Deuel; Tech: Mike Carney; Concession:
Mark Frye, Dave Jecko, Michele Eberley, Lori Colosi, Febronia Murphy, Jessica Vivacqua, Karla Williams; Donations:
Wendy Davidson; Chain Gang: Mary Karboski, Donna Kirch, Marty Herthum and current 8th grader Michael Coriale; Junior
Coaches: Ben Schoen, Sean Ryan, Corinne Rothdiener, Curtis Schmidt, Andrew Puckey; Senior Coaches: Kurt Herthum,
Chris Klein; Field Set-up/Clean-up: Mike Deuel, Kevin Strosberg and the Building and Grounds Staff; Cheerleading
Coaches: Kristin Graziano & Christina Hart; Coin Toss: High School Principal Jeffrey Kuhn and his daughter Paige.
During the next five days of school, Student Council sponsored “Spirit Days” and gave away Hoopla gift cards to the
student who each day did the best job of participating.
On Thursday, October 9th, in addition to the spirit day, Student Council sponsored a Hallway Decorating Contest which
was won by the Junior Class. Students decorated the Cafeteria, Warrior Hall and the “Pit” with balloons, streamers, posters
and window paint to get the school in as festive a mood as possible as we celebrated on Friday.
On Friday, October 10th student council also helped put together our Fall Pep Rally which included a “Senior Athlete”
dance routine and a “Whipped Cream Pie Toss”. Later that night we also had our annual “Blue & White” Homecoming
Parade. Fire trucks from Whitesboro FD, Yorkville FD, New York Mills FD, Deerfield FD & Maynard FD were there, followed by our Warrior Cheerleaders, our Pep Band, our classes and then a large contingent of students, staff, administrators
and parents from our 4 elementary schools and middle school campus. Everyone who was there seemed to enjoy themselves
and are looking forward to next year’s parade.

On Saturday, October 11th we capped off the week by sponsoring a homecoming semi-formal dance at the high school.
In attendance were over 130 students who had a great night dancing and interacting with friends and staff in a safe and
very positive environment.
On behalf of Student Council and the entire Whitesboro student body I would like to thank you for your support in
making this week so successful! I am also very hopeful that this growth of school spirit will continue to build and carry
on throughout the year with all of the other activities that Student Council is planning.
