called Hotline to unfreeze your terminal (terminals freeze for
all prizes $10,000 and over) and congratulated Tom, return
his ticket intact and give him the validation slip. Tom wants
to know what awaits him at the Prize Office when he goes to
claim his prize. Here’s what he can expect:
• A lottery representative will conduct an interview with Tom, as well as
take his photo. The information given could be used in various forms of
publicity, including a possible media release, inclusion in LUCK magazine
and the website, a poster at the ticket purchase location and, depending
on the size of the prize, possibly a media conference.

• Of course, we are talking about a lot of money, and the review process
can take time. It is not uncommon for winners to wait several days to
receive their cheque after making their claim.
Can I play the lottery, too?
As a retailer, you certainly can play lottery products! We do not restrict retailers from purchasing or validating lottery tickets from your store,
or any other store, for that matter. After all, the odds of winning a prize are the same for you as any other player! However, before you play at
work, it’s always a good idea to check with your employer to make sure there aren’t any internal policies preventing this practice.
If you are lucky enough to win a big prize, just be aware that there will be additional questions and processes that will be required when
processing your claim. This will mean a delay in receiving your prize.
But it’s for a good reason! The questions provide an added level of security and help to ensure the rightful person receives the prize.
This also helps to avoid unfair scrutiny down the road. So, please be patient when waiting for your prize claims.

WCLC Lottery Manager app:
check your tickets on the go!
Players now have the ability to check their lottery tickets from their mobile
devices. It’s the newest feature on the WCLC Lottery Manager app!
Whether it’s draw-based, sports or SCRATCH ‘N WIN, players will be
excited to have another option to check their tickets. This app uses the
camera on their mobile device to scan the ticket barcode. It then indicates
if it’s a winner and what the prize amount is – just like the ticket checker at
your store.
Players cannot purchase tickets through this app and still require their
winning tickets to be validated through a ticket terminal.
If they don’t have it already, players can download the free WCLC Lottery

Terminal Talk:
Updating Your Retail Employee List
Whether you are welcoming
new staff or saying farewell
to existing ones, you must
be sure to keep your Retail
Employee List up to date.
This list is a region-wide
database of all lottery retailers’
employees that can be easily
updated and is accessed
through the lottery terminal.
Retail Employee List
Owners or managers are asked to enter the employee’s legal name as
it appears on their identification and their start date at that location. If
the employee is a manager, press the manager button. Once they are no
longer employed, the manager will delete that person as an employee.
Their name will remain in the system for two years, at which time it will
be permanently deleted.
Instructions on how to update the list can be found on page 4-7 in your
Ticket Terminal Operator’s Guide.

NWT/NU Lotteries-Retailer Incentive Program
Win Cash!
Did you know that we have a retailer incentive program? By participating in our program, retailers have a chance of
winning prizes (including cash). All that you (the retailer) have to do is support NWT/NU Lotteries marketing efforts
which are mutually beneficial to you. Many of our incentives are aimed at increasing lottery sales which could boost
your commissions. It’s a win, win!
We are currently running at least one promotion per fiscal quarter. We alert retailers to new
incentives by email. Retailer incentive packages are sent directly to your store, so be on the lookout.
Congratulations to our latest retailer incentive winners:
Christmas Scratch Pack Promotion
Retailers who utilized the Christmas pouches, sent in a photo of them on display and provided the
names of their Lottery staff were automatically entered for a chance to win $750. All staff names
were placed in a draw and Andrew Carpenter won $250. The store of the winning lottery clerk was
awarded $500. Congratulations to Big River Service Centre in Fort Providence!
Free Lottery for a Year
Lottery customers were given the opportunity to
win a subscription for “Free Lottery for the Year”.
Retailers who promoted this contest and sent in their
ballots were automatically entered to win $750. In
addition, lottery clerks were encouraged to write their
name on the back of the ballots. All lottery clerks’
names were then placed in a draw and Jewel Keevik
won $250. The store of the winning lottery clerk was
also awarded $500. Congratulations, Northern Store
#636 in Tuktoyaktuk!
