Disassembly of a Jura Capresso Z5 Ceramic Valve January 12
Disassembly of a Jura Capresso Z5 Ceramic Valve January 12, 2013 co m In an effort to control the cost of things that can typically go wrong with a Super Automatic Espresso Machine, this documents the critical part of taking one of these apart. G ur u. If you are handy and can fix common household items, and you have the necessary tools, it really isn’t that difficult. This detail to fix the Ceramic valve is academic. If one needs the comlete valve, call 215-361-7000 to order one. Pa rts Tools needed: • Screw drivers: standard blade and torque heads • Specialty screw driver head for Jura “oval” screws that hold the unit housing together • Needle nose and standard pliers • Light • Patience If you haven’t removed the housing before, the steps for this are on the next page. These steps should help you. Pa rts G ur u. co m Housing Removal: 1. Unplug the unit. Remove the tray. Empty the bean hopper. 2. Place unit on clear, accessible surface. 3. On the back of the unit, the Jura logo can be spun counter clockwise about a 1/8 turn and removed. Fiddle with it a bit if it doesn’t seem to want to move. Trust me, it does turn. 4. Take your specialty “oval” head bit (can be purchased on ebay from juracapressodoctor) and remove the two screws holding the back panel on the unit. 5. Slide the back panel down slightly, then it should come off the unit easily. 6. Now, the right side panel should be able to be slide backwards slightly. If you inspect the back panel to understand how it “slides” into the slots of each side, you now understand how the right side panel is fitted to the top. Be gentle and patient and it should slide back and then easily removed. 7. If needed to facilitate removing the right panel your first time, you can remove the entire top of the unit by taking the three torque head screws out located: 1. Under the water tank lid near the front of unit 2. Under bean cover near right side 3. Under small cover behind the water cover co m Leak source under here. Upon inspection, there is a small drain hole here, presumably to avoid water build up internally when the seal eventually fails. u. Valve after initial removal. Pa rts G ur Notes: Even though the replacement valve comes with pre-attached hoses (2 of 5), it was far easier to unfasten them from the valve than detatching from the various locations on the machine. In particular, the long hose that connects to the boiler, I tried to detach the hose from the boiler but, after multiple attempts, the hose could not be loosened from the boiler. One of two screws that hold the two halves of the value together. Pa rts G ur u. co m One of two screws that hold the value mechanism itself together. The other has already been removed. After the screws are removed, these to parts can be separated. Inside the housing, after the two parts are separated. co m You can see the water seal is accomplished with this rubber-like gasket. ur u. Is seats neatly onto here. Pa rts G Pulled the seal with a screw driver, came out with a very gentle tug. Very Important orientation to notice here. On the black slotted disk, you will notice two slots, one straight along the center, the other a semi-circular shape along the bottom. When reassembling, this disk must be reinstalled in the same orientation as this piece spins by the motor and allows water to flow between the correct holes (of the 5 in the assembly). Pa rts G ur u. co m Removal of black, slotted disk (that directs water between the various hoses) and spacer seat (white ring). Removal of black rotary component that actuates the spinning of the slotted disk. The actuator (microswitch) is available. Call 215-361-7000 to order one. Ask for Saeco Doser switch. co m u. ur G rts Pa This is the internal part that probably needs to be replaced. Clean all components thoroughly, then apply thin film of lubricant. r Jura machines are made by Eugster/Frismag company who has plants in Switzerland, Portugal and China. We at Parts Guru sell parts, and repair all Jura machines. Subscribe & watch our 'Do It Yourself' videos for opening the Jura C, E, F, J, S, Z, & ENA series. Video guides show how to open/close Jura machines, replace grinder, Brew group, tune up .p ar ts Extensive Calcium deposits are seen in almost every Jura machine we open for repairs. Jura Filter cartridges are preventative & ineffective. Filters cartridges remove chemical taste in water & do not prevent Calcium build up in the hydraulic system. The Brita filter installed on the kitchen faucet works better than expensive Jura filters. Calcium sediment inside the machine causes the following problems: (1) reduces flow of water with full or partial clogging. (2) generate back pressure in the Hydraulic system & cause internal leaks. (3) reduce pump pressure for coffee extraction & water collects in drain tray instead. (4) error codes 4, 8, & "Fill water" will display & force expensive repairs. We recommend Deactivating the electronic reminders for change of Filter. Descaling is best done manually, every two or three months. op Order Best descaler (#DSC-6) from our online store for effective & authentic descaling. sh Are you frustrated with your old Espresso machine that needs expensive repairs? You can fix the machine yourself but cannot find parts?
