1 Introduction Thank you for choosing Dental Wings solutions. The 7Series, 5Series and 3Series scanners use the DWOS Prostheses design software to provide the User with superior levels of productivity, versatility and easiness of use. This User Guide is intended to assist the User with operation of the Dental Wings scanners and provide instructions on use of its functions. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 1-­‐7 2 General overview 2.1 Starting scanners and the DWOS software To begin, turn on the 7Series, 5Series or 3Series scanner using the power switch on rear panel. The symbol “O” is off and “__” is on. Next: • For the 7 or 3Series scanner, boot the embedded computer by pressing the center green”√” button located on the front panel scanner • For the 5Series scanner boot the external PC Next, log onto the PC using “DWOS” for the account id and “dwos” for the password. Once logged in, you will be at the general Dental Wings screen as shown below. The DWOS Prostheses design software is based on client/server architecture. Thus, to bring up the system you will always need to first start the server and then start the client. To do: 1. Double click on the DWServer icon to start the server. A window will appear during the launch, when completed a server icon will appear in the taskbar near the clock) 2. Double click on the DWClient icon to start the client showing the login window asking for username and password. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐1 By default, the username “adm” is enabled with the password “adm”. After logging in, you should see the main client window as shown below. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐2 2.2 Order identification and process: scan, cad, production To use the DWOS, everything is associated to a unique order number. Generation of this order number is the first of four main steps most commonly used in the system. The four main steps are: •

Create an order Scan a physical model or an impression (except on 3Series) to create 3D digital model Generation of the prosthesis design using DWOS prostheses design software Initiation of an intended Production choice: in-­‐house or out sourced The unique order number is used by the DWOS modules to manage the case through the entire process. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐3 2.3 Basic user interface principles 2.3.1 Software general concept The DWOS prostheses design software is mainly icon driven. The main horizontal icon bar as shown below, is always displayed and it allows you to run the main DWOS applications, such as: order creation, arch scan, CAD design, etc. The left bar below is displayed within the scan application and these bars are displayed as needed. The icons are context sensitive and when displayed as gray as shown with the right bar below, this indicates that they are inactive and cannot be used within the current context. Dental Wings inc. Order summary You can change the respective size of each area by moving the separation bars. The order list is organized by columns. You can invert the sort order by a double left click on the column name. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐7 2.3.2 Mouse handling & view manipulation The DWOS prostheses design software requires a mouse with two buttons and a wheel. The mouse interaction operates as follows: • Left click: menu, icon selection, point definition • Right click: definition validation, access to local menu • Rotate the wheel: zooms in/out • Press and hold the wheel while dragging the mouse: translates the view • Press and hold the right button while dragging the mouse: view is rotated • Press and hold the CTRL key while rotating the wheel: generates a cross section of the view • Double click left button: to center and resize the view • Double click the right button: to switch between perspective and parallel Projection Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐8 2.3.3 Display management 2.3.3.1 View type, clip plane, slice views The DWOS prostheses design software displays in full 3D so that you can get a complete view of the clinical situation and prosthesis under design. You can use the View Type menu in the view toolbar at the bottom right of the screen to switch between predefined view orientations. You can use Clips Planes in the view toolbar to generate a cross sectional view that is perpendicular to the selected axis. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐9 Example of cross section in the mesial axis is shown below. You can use the wheel to move the cross section. When using Clips Planes, you can display a measuring grid by selecting Clip Grid in the view toolbar. The grid provides the User with a User definable reference grid (default is 0.5 mm). To change the grid size over strike the numeric value (e.g. 0.5mm to 1.0mm) or simply drag the glide bar to increase or decrease the grid box sizes. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐10 When using Clips Planes, you can also use another measuring tool by selecting the Measure button in the view toolbar. Then click and hold the left mouse button to define the start point of the measure, while dragging the mouse to the desired end point. The measurement is dynamically displayed as the mouse is being dragged. The measure is made in the plane selected for the clip. To exit from Clips Planes, select Unclip in the Clip Planes menu. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐11 2.3.3.2 Display buttons Using the Display buttons at the top center of the main application area, you can display or to hide parts of the clinical situation and/or prostheses. The list of Display buttons changes according to the DWOS application and the clinical situations as they are context sensitive. Each Display button toggles as follows: • An up blue arrow: displays the part • A down red arrow: hides the part Hide/show clinical situation Hide/show undercut (scan application) Hide/show friction (scan application) Hide/show antagonists Hide/show anatomies Hide/show prostheses (including connectors) Hide/show connectors Hide/show wax-­‐up Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐12 2.3.3.3 Transparency button The Transparency button at the top the main area will allow you to adjust the degree of transparency of the component parts of the clinical situation and/or prostheses. To adjust, use the glide bars as shown below. 2.3.3.4 Virtual Articulator Feature Prior to using this feature, it is required that the User manually articulate the desired case, using the SAM articulator with magnets attached to both the upper and lower stone model aches. Once the User is satisfied with the articulation, the User must carefully take each arch with the attached magent, being careful to not move its position within the holder. Upon completion of scanning both components, the DWOS will then propose the requested design respecting the dynamic articulation. To view the dynamic articulation, select the Virtual Articulator feature from within the CAD design function using the following icon: When selected, the following pull down menu is displayed: The parameters from the pull down can be modified for analysis for the individual case using the tabs as shown above. The two white and green play buttons will show the dynamic movements of the case. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐13 2.3.4 Local menus During the scan and design processes, you will have to do specific tasks (e.g. editing the margin line, adjusting contact points, etc.…) on particular clinical elements. These tasks will be done using specific local menus that are context sensitive. For example, the local menu of a stump allows the edit of its margin, while the local menu of prosthesis will allow adjustment of its contact points. To access these menus, place the cursor of the mouse over the pertinent clinical element and press the right button of the mouse. The header of the local menu displays the tooth number. 2.3.5 Assistant The DWOS Prostheses design software includes software assistants that will guide you through a procedure. For example, during the scan process, assistants will prompt you through the scanning process. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐14 2.4 Units All dimensions, such as, size, thickness, distances, etc. are interpreted in millimeters. All measured angles are provided in degrees. 2.5 Parameter settings The DWOS Prostheses design software allows you to set the clinical parameters for the intended prosthesis designs, such as, material, type of prosthesis, thickness of coping, etc. These parameters are accessible through assistants. These parameters can be adjusted at different levels. 2.5.1 Local adjustment All parameters can be adjusted during the design of a given prosthesis. You can decide if the adjustment should be applied only for the current design or for all designs during your current CAD session by using the button. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐15 2.5.2 General adjustment The default parameters can also be adjusted for all the cases produced within your lab. To modify the defaults, please refer to the Material Management module (refer to chapter 9.4) for further details. 2.5.3 Customized parameters The parameters can also be adjusted for each dentist by using the Dentist Preferences module as shown below. For further details, please refer to chapter 9.6. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐16 2.6 Hot to exit from DWOS software and shutdown There are two methods to exit from the DWOS software. The first is you can click on the red quit icon within the main toolbar as shown below. The second method is to use the close button (“x”)within the upper right corner of the main window: With both methods, confirmation of your intention to quit the session is required. To confirm, select the yes button as shown: Once confirmed, the exit request closes the DWOS client application on the current computer. If you are running a multi-­‐station configuration, repeat the exit procedure on all PCs to completely shutdown the Dental Wings application. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐17 Next, the DOWS server must be shut down. To do, left click on the server icon in the taskbar near the clock: Then select the Quit option in the following menu. Now the PC is ready to shutdown using the Windows shutdown procedure or by pressing the red shutdown button with the red “X” located upon the front panel of the 7Series or the 3Series scanner as shown: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 2-­‐18 3 Order management 3.1 Dentist, Patient & order management: how to create, delete, edit The DWOS prosthesis design software provides a default Lab, Dentist and Patient for your convenience. To begin using the system, it is recommended that you define at minimum a new Dentist and when a new order is opened, a new patient can conveniently be entered for a given Dentist. The following section describes the procedures for entering a new dentist, patient and opening a new order. However, we begin with a brief overview of the relationship of these three components. The DWOS Prostheses design software manages data using three levels architecture which is easy to use and is linked automatically: • dentist • patient • order A patient is linked to a dentist and an order is linked to a patient. A patient and order cannot exist without these links. A dentist can be organized by country and clinic. An order can contain several prostheses designs. For example, within the same model you may produce a single design on tooth 12 and a three unit bridge design with teeth 15-­‐16-­‐17, all within the same order. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 3-­‐1 3.1.1 How to Create a new order To create a new order, select the Order Receiving Application icon within the main toolbar as shown below. The main window of Order Receiving Application will then appear: Next click on the New sale order icon Dental Wings inc. Note that an automatic order number is generated with the following format: COM-­‐yymmdd-­‐order number of the day Where “yy” is the year, “mm” is the month and “dd” is the day, followed by an increased number for each case opened that day to keep each order number unique. Optional: The order number can be change by over striking the number within the field below. Optional: The default “COM” prefix can also be changed. To do, right click on the root level (in the above example, it is “My Laboratory”. Then select “Edit Info”, followed by selecting the “Identification” tab that will appear at the top of your screen. Next ,type within the “Unique ID” field what you would like to see as a default. Complete the procedure by selecting the “OK” button. This will now replace the “COM” with what you have entered, followed by the remaining yymmdd-­‐order number format. Keep in mind that an order number has to be unique and that DWOS software will use it to manage the full CAD/CAM process of your case. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 3-­‐3 Next select the dentist and patient in the lists and press OK If it is a new patient, press New button in the Patient List (or if available, select from the existing patient list): The Patient creation window appears. Enter the patient’s first and last name and press OK: Dental Wings inc. The DWOS Prostheses design software requires the following four definitions: • tooth number • material • type of prosthesis • single or bridged unit Define the tooth number by left clicking on the tooth. The tooth will then display as a representation of the selected type of prosthesis. If re-­‐selected, using the right mouse button, the tool selection is canceled. The defined teeth will display convert to the Prosthesis type that is actively displayed. To define a different prosthesis type, first change the active type that’s displayed to the desired type, then select the desired tooth. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 3-­‐6 Note: the American numbering system can be set within the “Manage Users” pull down menu located within the “Applications” icon. The anatomy that will be used can also be changed during the CAD design. Details on each tooth definition are displayed on the right within the “Framework Layer” tab and displayed as a list: To create a bridge, select all the desired teeth with a single left click on each tooth included within the bridge. A green lasso is created around each active tooth intended for the bridge. Then select the Create Bridge button and a gray lasso is generated grouping the entire bridge. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 3-­‐8 3.1.2 How to edit and/or delete Dentist and/or Patient You can change or delete data associated to a dentist and a patient using the following procedure. Note that any existing orders for dentists and patients will not be deleted. To edit or delete a dentist: within the order receiving window, press the mouse right button on the customer list, country or clinic level to access to local menu. Then select Edit or Delete Once within the Dentist’s panel, modifications can be made to the fields within any of the four tabs: Identification, Billing, Shipping or Preferences, by clicking on a tab to activate. When changes are complete, select the “OK” button to save the changes. Dental Wings inc. If editing, make the desired changes, then select the “OK” button to save the changes. If deleting either a Dentist, highlight the entry to be deleted and the system will prompt you to verify the intention with the message below: Select the “Yes” button to delete and the list will indicate the Dentist has been deleted with the red “X” upon the entry. Next select the “OK” from the “Select dental customer” panel to exit and the Dentist entry will be removed from the “Customers” list of defined dentists. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 3-­‐10 3.2 Routing forward and back, starting the Scan & CAD applications The DWOS Prostheses design software provides tools to manage the progression of the order through the full CAD/CAM process. The software manages several operational steps after an order is created. • Scan: order is ready to be scanned automatically after an order is created • CAD engine: once order is scanned, the data is ready to be processed by the CAD engine to automatically generate a proposed prosthesis • CAD Design: proposal of the prosthesis is ready to be checked and customized • Production: completed prosthesis design is validated and ready to be produced either internally or electronically sub-­‐contracted The change from one operational step to another is referred to as to “Route”. When routing a case, it can be routed in two directions: • route forward: usual production process from one step to the next (e.g. from Scan to CAD) • route back: from the given step to the previous. This is most commonly used to check for potential design adjustments (e.g. routing from Production to CAD completion to potentially modify the anatomy) The DWOS Prostheses design software automatically manages operational steps and Routes Forward. You can manually Route an order forward or back. To do, please refer to the next chapter. To start a scan, multi-­‐die, import scan file, CAD engine or the CAD design application, press the appropriate icon within the main tool bar as shown below: Scan application CAD engine Multi-­‐die application CAD design application Scan import application The DWOS Prostheses design software automatically starts the selected application and displays the main window of that application. To switch between applications, select the desired application tab. To exit from an application, click on exit icon on the far right of the application tabs as shown. The Administrative Application will allow: • view all orders • manage operational steps of an order • manage production (please refer to Chapter 6 for further information) • additional advanced functions, such as, purge, archive, export and import order (please refer to Chapter 8 for further information) To start the Administrative Application, press the gear icon within the main tool bar and select Administrative Application. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 3-­‐14 3.4 Laboratory information customization You can customize the information related to your laboratory by right clicking on My Laboratory in the order manager. A window appears where you can modify the name of your laboratory. This name is used to generate automatic filenames for the production design files you create. Within the example below, the name was changed from “My Laboratory” to “Dental Wings Laboratory” by retyping within the “Name” field: The laboratory name is then updated as shown below: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 3-­‐15 4 Scanning 4.1 Introduction 4.1.1 Scanable material, coating The 7Series, 5Series and 3Series scanners are designed to scan plaster, silicone or alginates. As the 7Series, 5Series and 3Series are optical scanners, the quality of the scan is affected by shiny or translucent surfaces. These problems are easily resolved by utilizing a light coating to opaque the scan surface. Spray scanner coatings are commercially available. Ask your Dental Wings Distributor for a local recommendation. To avoid inferior scans, Dental Wings recommends operating scanners with doors closed. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐1 4.1.2 Scan Options: Multi-­‐die and Standard with or without Antagonist The 7Series, 5Series and 3Series scanners allow different scan options. Select the best scan option according to the clinical case. They include: • Multi-­‐die: several single dies are scanned in parallel (up to 30 with the 7Series, up to 6 with 3Series.). • Standard plaster models : can scan both a full upper and lower arch or preparations and/or implants • Standard plaster models with a check-­‐bite of the opposing. • Standard plaster models with the opposing positive model. • Vertex hinge-­‐style articulator with preparation and opposing arches, using a patented axis-­‐finder technique. The axis finder holder is packaged with the 7Series, an optional purchase with the 3Series and 5Series. • A scan jig which fits into an analog to identify an implants exact angle and location. • A wax-­‐up for replication. • Scanning an impression with the 7Series and 5Series, excluding the 3Series. • Full arch with palatal area to be utilized for partial framework design. Specific plaster model or impression holders are packaged with the 7Series, 5Series and 3Series scanners that are designed for each scan option. 4.1.3 Common processes with each type of scan Except for the Multi-­‐die application, the scan options have very similar procedures with common basic steps: • Always start with scanning preparation arch • Initial scan preview reference scan • Definition of the area of interest • Identification of models location (typically via tooth numbers) • Precise scan of highest quality upon the elements (e.g. preps, scan jigs, palatal) with repositioning if needed • Automatic or manual margin line and cervical collar editing • Antagonist adjustment (if present) The Multi-­‐die application combines both the Scan and CAD applications for single elements and is described in detail within chapter 6. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐2 4.2 For each scan option: A step-­‐by-­‐step Process 4.2.1 Standard holder 4.2.1.1 Installation of the model The standard holder is used to scan a full or partial arch or stone models. The standard holder allows several mechanical adjustments which include: • Model size with 3 choices of three positions (on 3Series scanner) for the two back screws and adjustable front grip. • Preparation axis with choice of platform angle. Adjustments can be made using the red hex tool that is provided with the scanner. Two releases of standard holder exist: one for 5Series scanner and one for 7Series, 5Series & 3Series scanner. 5Series first standard holder 7Series, 5Series & 3Series standard holder Install the model on the standard holder and place it inside the scanner. The fixing system is magnetic; ensure that the three holes of the holder are in front of the three balls of the scanner platform for the holder to properly seat. Then close the door. The scanners check if the door is closed before scanning. If not, the message “Close door” is displayed on the scanner’s front panel. Dental Wings inc. Define the proper orientation of the model (if necessary) by placing the predefined blue area in the matching orientation with the scanned model. To do, first place the central green dot of the arch on the incisal edge at the mid-­‐line (between the two centrals). Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐5 Using the forward and back arrow keys (<-­‐ and -­‐>) you can rotate 90° the predefined blue area. First, rotate the arch by placing the mouse on one of the buccal labels, Left Click and Hold, to move the green arch until it alignes with the central sulcus of the posteriors and the incisals of the anterior teeth. The arch will pivot around the Central Green Dot. Dental Wings inc. Do not reduce the length of the green arch line

Then, define the area of interest by dragging the blue dots. Validate your area of interest by clicling on the green check mark. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐8 4.2.1.3 Assignment of model location Now assign a tooth number over a model location by placing the mouse cursor over the location corresponding to the tooth number displayed and left click. If your mouse cursor is on a valid area, the dot is green, otherwise it is red. Repeat the steps for each clinical model location until done. Validate your tooth assignments by clicking on the green check mark.
Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐9 4.2.1.4 Begin with a precise scan Confirm the scan of the area defined by clicking OK. The scanner scans the model. A progression bar in the lower part of the scan window indicates the percentage of work done. When completed, the result of 3D scan is displayed. You can see that due to shadows from adjacent teeth or gingival, some parts of the stump may be missing. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐10 The Dental Wings Scan Application provides two ways to fix missing areas. You can: • Rescan the dies on the model using the standard holder after removing adjacents and gingival components • Scan the dies using the multi-­‐die support holder 4.2.1.5 Scanning dies on the model If you decide to rescan the die using the standard holder, remove the adjacent teeth and gingival. Then place your mouse on a preparation (stump) die and right click to access to local menu. Select Scan preparation on model. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐11 Define the contour area of the die by adjusting the yellow handles and then press Start If needed, you can adjust the preparation height. The die currently scanned is enclosed inside a red circle. This circle becomes yellow, blue and ending with green during computation process to update the user with what is occurring. Repeat the same steps for all the dies. To optimize time, work on the scanned dies designs while the unscanned dies are being scanned.

DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐12 4.2.1.6 Scan dies using the multi-­‐die holder If you decide to rescan a die using the multi-­‐die holder, click on the multi-­‐die holder icon on the left vertical bar. A window is displayed with the position of each die on the multi-­‐die holder. Remove the standard holder. Take the multi-­‐die holder and place dies in their respective locations as displayed below. Buccal side of the die should be oriented in the arrow direction Install the multi-­‐die holder inside the scanner and then select Start Scan. Dental Wings inc. This circle becomes yellow then blue during computation process. The software will automatically scan all the dies. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐14 4.2.1.7 Repositioning When all die scans using either the standard or multi-­‐die holder are complete, the result of the 3D scan is displayed. You can see that the missing areas have been filled. The scan application includes a specific automatic module that repositions the dies scanned with respect to the global model. It is important to check if the results are OK for each die. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐15 To check, place the mouse over one die and right click to access to local menu, select Show/Hide Repositioning The result of the repositioning is displayed in red. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐16 A good repositioning is when the display of both red and gray are evenly intermixed in a marble like pattern. A bad repositioning is when large blocks of red are displayed. Examples of both are shown below: Bad positioning Good positioning When a bad repositioning occurs, you should reposition manually. To accomplish this, the scan application provides two methods to reposition: • Simple • Advanced Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐17 To start a simple repositioning, select Reposition Preparation in the local menu of the die. The scanned die is displayed in light blue outside the arch. The principle of simple repositioning is to define one point on the scanned die and to define the same corresponding point on the die inside the arch. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐18 Define the point on the scanned die by left clicking, and a red dot is displayed. Then define a corresponding second point on the arch by left clicking and a blue dot is displayed. The first and second points can be moved before validation. The die outside the arch can be rotated around red dot by keeping left button pressed while rolling the wheel. Note the order of definition. The red dot should be on the die outside the arch Validate with a right click or by pressing OK button. The repositioning is recomputed and then the completed result of the repositioning is displayed Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐19 If needed, an advanced repositioning can be done. To start an advanced repositioning, select Reposition Preparation (Advanced) in the local menu of the die. The scanned die is displayed in light blue outside the arch. The principle of an advanced repositioning is to define three points upon the scanned die within the “Reposition” window and corresponding three points upon the die within the “Reference” window. The resultant repositioning will display within the “Result Preview” panel (the lower half). Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐20 First define three points upon the scanned die within the “Reposition” panel with a left click and the positioned colored dots will display. Next, define the corresponding three points within the “Reference” panel with a left click and the positioned colored dots will display. The six points can be adjusted before validation if necessary. Once satisfied with placement, select the “Precise Repositioning” button to calculate. Dental Wings inc. When satisfied, validate and complete task by selecting the “OK” button (

DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐22 4.2.1.8 Automatic Margin and Cervical Collar Line Generation and Automatic Insertion Axis Identification There are two methods for managing margin and collar lines. The DWOS can detect and define the margin and collar lines automatically or the End User can choose to define manually. In addition, the DWOS can identify the insertion axis automatically. There are two places that these calculations can occur: 1) within the “Arch Scan” application and 2) within the “Multi-­‐die scan” application. This section will cover the arch scan application. Please refer to the “Multi-­‐Die Scanning” of the User Guide for details about option two. Within the “Arch Scan” application, the margin and insertion axis of one or more dies can be automatically detected and identified. To do, select the “Edit Margin on Next Available Preparation” icon. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐23 Once selected the first or subsequent die that has completed a precise scan, will be displayed as shown. The default option is “Full Automatic Margin”. Accept this option by selection the “OK” button. The next panel is displayed. Make any adjusts (if necessary) by moving the green handles. The same margin is displayed within both the 3D and flat-­‐wrap (bottom window) modes. When done, select the green check make to validate the margin. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐24 Next, the “Auto Insertion Axis” function is executed to auto-­‐calculate a optimal axis of insertion. To do, select the “Auto insertion axis” button. Validate (accept) the calculated insertion axis by selecting the “OK” button. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐25 Next, the collar line is automatically calculated and displayed. The collar line will follow the contour of the margin per pre-­‐defined distance as specified within corresponding material type definitions. The margin and collar lines can both be modified by utilizing respective edit icons. When satisfied with the margin and collar line, validate the case by selecting the “OK” button. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐26 When completed, both the margin line (green) and collar line (magenta) should both be displayed. Repeat procedure for subsequent dies by reselecting the “Edit Margin on Next Available Preparation” icon until all scanned preparations have the required margin and collar lines defined. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐27 When all preps have been completely defined, each preparations will have their respective margin and collar lines displayed as shown below. To complete the procedure, select the “Exit current design” button (blue) to complete the procedure. Then a prompt if you wish to route the case to the next procedural step is asked, select the “Yes” button to complete the editing and scanning procedure. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐28 4.2.1.9 Editing the Margin line and cervical collar To edit the margin line, select “Edit current margin design” option within the local menu of the die. You can optimize the automatic margin detection. To do, reposition the die to see the entire margin and block-­‐out undercuts due to ditching, by moving the die within the 3D view. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐29 Once the entire margin can be seen, select the die’s corresponding ditching. Continue by pressing the “OK” button. The margin line edit function is separated into three views and one toolbar: • Main 3D view • Exploded view (flat wrap) is helpful to visualize the entire margin in one view • Slice view for fine checks and adjustments Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐30 The automatic detection prompts for a starting point to begin the margin detection. The mouse cursor is represented as a wand with a star at its end. Place the star on the margin and left click to define the margin starting point. An automatic proposal of the margin is then displayed. You can adjust the automatic margin proposal by moving points using the mouse. An active point is displayed in yellow and can be used to modify the margin’s location. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐31 You can add/remove points by simply double clicking between two points (to add) or single click on a point to remove. When a point is selected (i.e. displayed in yellow) DEL key deletes the next point in a clockwise direction. You can also use the arrow keys (left, right, up and down) to adjust points. The side view shows the cross section cutting through the model at the current point position to help to place the point on the margin’s edge (e.g. tangent point). While moving the handle position using the keyboard, you can move bigger steps pressing the SHIFT key while moving or move smaller steps by pressing the CTRL key.

DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐35 You can move the entire margin at once or a portion of the margin by adjusting the gliding bar. On the far left it means the smallest item (i.e. moving a single point), on the far right it means the whole margin line is to be moved. When the bar is in between, you will move a relative section of the margin. The die can be displayed in Flat Shading mode, this could make margin adjustment easier. You can also display the undercuts (in red) by left clicking on the undercut icon. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐36 There are three methods to accept your margin design: • Right-­‐clicking within the background • Pressing the <Enter > key • Clicking on the apply icon at the top right corner of the main view. If you want to exit the design mode without accepting the changes, then press the <Esc> escape key or clicking upon the cancel icon
at the top right corner of the main view. After the validation (acceptance) of the margin line design, you have to validate the parameters of the internal part of the prosthesis. The following window is displayed. The first Tab displays a 3D view that allows you to ask the system to calculate the insertion axis by selecting the “Auto Insertion axis” button. You can also choose a manual insertion axis for a die or bridge by repositioning the displayed model’s view for each active die. When the proper axis is defined, press the “Set Insertion Axis” button. Undercuts and the axis helper (red cylinder) can be displayed. Rotate the view until you can see all margins with minimal undercuts You can decide to have the same insertion axis for all elements of the model, which could include multiple dies and a bridge or to manage an axis individually for each die and a bridge. The Enforce 3-­‐Axis Milling option will ensure that the same axis is used for a given bridge unit, but other individual die axis can still be individually managed by ensuring the same insertion axis for all elements is not selected. Same insertion axis applies on all the dies of the model, including dies within a bridge Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐37 There is a new Screenshot button which provides the ability to generate an image of the insertion axis view. After pressing this button, a .png image is created on the Desktop, the filename is displayed as shown below. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐38 Within the second Tab, the coping parameters are set: cement gap, minimum thickness, collar position, etc. By default, undercuts are automatically blocked-­‐out. If you need to adjust Cutback margins, define its type using this list.(see below) The Emergence Angle works as follow: 0° leads to flat angle and 90° to sharp angle using the origin as a reference as shown below. 0° 65° The Emergence Angle given by the user will be used by the software as a guideline. That is, the software will apply control to guarantee marginal integrity and respect of the morphology. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐39 When a clinical pontic or reduced crown is selected, you have access to a third tab called Reduction Parameters. Within this tab you adjust the ceramic space between the ceramic interface (overlay) and the anatomical form. Cervical Reduction is only used for pontic cases. Within the fourth Tab, you can change the prosthesis type. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐40 You can click on the Reset button to apply the default parameters (for all the Tabs), specified by the material you have chosen for the restoration when the order was opened. If you change the parameters, you can click on the Set As Default button to use them for the next set of parameters definitions within the same scan session. Click OK when all the parameters are set. After closing the parameters window, the collar line is automatically computed and displayed within the main 3D window of the margin design view. You can accept the current margin by clicking Yes on the confirmation window or further adjust by clicking No. When an adjustment is requested, the view organization is the same than the one of margin edition as shown below. The color scale bar is displayed to provide a relative friction reference. Red indicates more friction, blue indicates less. To edit the collar line, click on the Edit current collar design icon in the right vertical toolbar; Dental Wings inc. After validation of the collar line, the margin and collar lines are displayed on the die on the main view of scan application. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐50 4.2.1.11 Cleaning surfaces Sometimes, too large area of interest definition will lead to scan surfaces that are useless or that could interfere with the view of you design. This is very common when scanning a check bite (see chapter below). The scan application includes a specific module that allows you to ‘clean’ the surface. Place the mouse over the model and right click to access to local menu, then select the Remove Scan Faces option. The cleaning tool window appears: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐51 The tool window provides a choice of cleaning tools. You can choose rectangular selection as shown below. You define the rectangle by left clicking to define one corner of the rectangle and dragging your mouse to define the rectangle. Right click to validate your rectangle and the encompassed area is colored red. Note there are two buttons: one to keep selection area the other to delete everything outside selection area. What is highlighted in red is what the operation will affect. Select “Yes” when prompted to finish operation. The result of a rectangular area deletion is displayed as shown below: Dental Wings inc. Note, the shape is not visually closed, but will virtually close between the starting and ending points. Vertices selection allows drawing directly on the surface. This is useful for the removal of small fragments of model debris. The blue dot represents the surface to be erased. Let click and drag the mouse to define the area. To enlarge or reduce the size of the blue dot, left click and hold while rolling the mouse wheel. The same cleaning tool is accessible on antagonist model. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐54 4.2.1.12 How to Add/Remove material / Fill hole to a scan / Invert Normals Sometimes, the die stone model includes imperfections (e.g. bubbles) that may significantly affect the design of the prosthesis if it happens to be at the wrong spot. The scan application includes a specific module that allows you to remove or add ‘virtually’ material on the model (e.g. to fill a bubble). Place the mouse over the model and right click to access to local menu, then select “Add/Remove Material”. The “Add/Remove Material” function window is displayed. The scan application includes a specific module to display and to fill the holes. Right click on the model to access the local menu and then select “Show/hide holes” function. This does not affect accuracy and right click on the darker model surface to access the submenu. Select the option “Invert Normals”. The surface color is lighten to match the rest. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐58 4.2.1.13 How to Export a scan Since the DWOS is an open architected system, the 7Series, 3Series and iSeries scanners can export their scan data into the standard “STL” file format. To export data into the STL format, two exports can be done. The first export is for the prep arch scan and the second is for the antagonist scan. To begin, place your mouse upon the model and right click to access to local menu and select Export Scan. One STL file will be created for the preparation arch. Next define where the data shall be saved. By default, the Export function generates a filename including dentist and patient names ending with ‘arch’ for the preparation model. . Select the “Save” button to complete. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐59 If an antagonist arch has been scanned (please refer to 4.2.2), it can also be exported. To do, place your mouse on the antagonist model, right click to access to local menu and select Export Scan. An STL file will be created for the antagonist arch. Next define where the data will be saved. By default, the Export function generates a filename including dentist and patient names ending with ‘antag’ for the antagonist model. Select the “Save” button to complete. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐60 4.2.1.14 How to Exit the Scan Function Once you have completed for all dies within your case, the scans, repositioning and margin and collar line definitions, click on the Exit current design button at the bottom of the right vertical toolbar. Confirm that you wish to route your order to the CAD step by selecting the Yes button. If you click No, you can continue to modify all elements defined during the current scan application. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐65 4.2.2 How to use the Standard holder and scan a check bite to capture antagonist Please refer to Chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder” for the procedure on installing the model and starting the software. The Antagonist information can be captured by scanning its check bite. To do, within the arch scan parameters window, select both: • Standard holder • Antagonist data needed • Checkbite The orientation and definition of area of interest, model tooth number assignment and the global precise scan are done as described in chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder”. When done, the following window requests that you install the check bite (i.e. place it upon the stone model, taking care to completely seat) for the preview scan. With some silicones a light spray coating may be necessary to improve the quality of the scan. Dental Wings inc. Select the green check mark within the upper right of the window, once the area is defined to proceed. Next, start the precise scan by pressing the OK button. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐68 It is common that excess surface data has been scanned and it is best to “clean” or remove unneeded surfaces. To do, use “Remove Scan Faces” to clean the surface (please refer to chapter 4.2.1.10 Cleaning surfaces for details). Dental Wings inc. Using the View button, you can select which elements to display. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐70 You can also display Interference Colors to verify if your checkbite is in the correct position. Interferences are displayed with a color code from yellow to red; yellow means light contact and red heavy contact. If holes exist within your checkbite (typically at contact points), interferences are displayed at their locations. If desired, the antagonist scan can be repositioned. To adjust, right click on antagonist to access to local menu and select the Adjust Antagonist Position option. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐71 There are two ways to adjust antagonist position: • Entering of displacement in X,Y or Z directions • Applying interactive adjustments using displacement handles. Both methods are selected using the Adjust Antagonist Position window: If you decide to enter a displacement in the X,Y or Z directions, press + or – buttons to move the antagonist per the defined increment. Note that this adjustment can be done on cross sectional view that allows you precision control of your adjustment. In this example, a 0.2 mm negative increment is applied to move down the checkbite. Note the difference between the previous and next images (inside the circle). Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐72 The Adjust Antagonist Position window displays any increment applied to each direction. If you decide to use the interactive manual adjustment method, select the Enables interactive manual repositioning option by left clicking over the option box. When activated, a check mark will appear. Once activated, blue displacement assist handles are displayed around the antagonists. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐73 Using these handles, you can rotate the antagonist to the desired position. When selecting a blue handle, a green assist circle is displayed, to show the rotation direction. You can also free form translate the antagonist by placing the mouse cursor over the antagonist (the cursor becomes a finger), then left click and drag the mouse to the desired position. If you select the Cancel button, all adjustments will be negated. Please refer to chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder” for the remaining scan steps. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐75 4.2.3 How to Use the Standard Holder and Scan the Antagonist Positive Model Please refer to chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder” for the procedure on installing the model and starting the software. The antagonist information can be captured by scanning the antagonist model. To do, within the “Arch Scan Parameters” window, select both: • Standard holder • Antagonist data needed • Positive model with occlusion key scan The orientation and definition of area of interest, model tooth number assignment and the global precise scan are done as described in chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder”. When done, the following window requests that you install the occlusion key. To do, install the opposing arch over the preparation within the standard holder. Affix the two arches with rubber bands to avoid movement during the subsequent scan as shown below. Next, install the holder with two arches back inside the scanner. Dental Wings inc. Next, select the Start the antagonist preview scan icon to scan the antagonist arch. Dental Wings inc. Left click on occlusion key to access the local menu and select Reposition Occlusion Key on Arch option. Dental Wings inc. First, define three points on the occlusion key followed by three corresponding points on the model. A help window in the bottom right corner summarizes the procedure. Note the “order” of the reference point definitions. Red dots will appear on the occlusion key. First reposition the occlusion key scan then, reposition the antagonist scan. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐85 If a rescan of the wax-­‐up is needed, select the Start the wax-­‐up scan icon within the right vertical toolbar. If needed, the wax-­‐up position can be adjusted with a tool that operates as the one described within chapter 4.2.2 for the adjustment of antagonist position. To do, move the mouse cursor over the wax-­‐up and right click to access the local menu then, select the Adjust Wax-­‐up Position option. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐86 If needed, the wax-­‐up can be repositioned on the arch with a tool similar to the one described within chapter 4.2.3 for the repositioning the antagonist model. To do, move the mouse cursor over the wax-­‐up and right click to access the local menu then, select the Reposition Wax-­‐up on arch option. Dental Wings inc. Continue this procedure as described within chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder” for the remaining scan steps for the precise die scans, repositioning and the margin and collar line edits. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐88 4.2.5 How to use the Vertex articulator (optional with 3Series) The 5Series and 3Series can scan both the preparation(s) and opposing arch mounted upon a “Vertex” articulator using a patented axis-­‐finder technique (optional with 3Series) and the associated holder. Install the preparation arch onto the scan holder inserting the articulator’s round peg into the right or left side of the holder’s arm (take note if the peg is on the left or right as you will need this information when scanning). Then push the grip side of the articulator into the opposite arm of the holder as shown below: The base of the stone model should be relatively horizontal. If not, use the tool (shown below) that’s used to mount a stone model on the standard platform, to adjust the horizontal arm rest by loosening the screw on the horizontal arm as shown with the arrow above. Then reposition the horizontal arm to the correct position so that the model’s base will rest parallel to the arm rest, then re-­‐tighten the screw. Dental Wings inc. Next, select YES to the prompt below, to scan the dies prior to scanning the antagonist arch. Note, the delaying of the antagonist scan at shown above will optimize the scan process by minimizing the swapping of the models within the scanner.

When the die scans are complete, next request the preview scan of the opposing by selecting the corresponding icon in the right vertical toolbar. Continue by mounting the opposing arch on the axis finder holder and install it within the scanner, then press the OK button to continue as shown below: Dental Wings inc. Using the View button, you can display the contacts area and check the scan result from axis finder’s patented technology. Follow the remaining steps as described within chapter 4.2.2 for the remaining steps. Note, you can adjust the antagonist’s position if needed. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐95 4.2.6 7Series & 5Series Impression Scanning Using the impression scan holder designed for the 7Series, an impression can be scanned. Please note that with some silicone or alginates, a spray coating may be necessary if the material is shinny or translucent to improve the scan quality. To do, install the impression within the holder with the impression’s holder between the two tines of the scan holder. The tines can be loosened to accommodate the width of most impression holders by using the provided tool to loosen the grip screws as shown above. Once inserted, tighten the grip screws, ensuring that the impression will not move during the scan process. Dental Wings inc. However, when selecting scan type, select “Impression holder” as shown within the “Arch Scan Parameters” window as follows: •

Impression holder Antagonist data needed Install the holder into the scanner and generate a preview. When defining the area of interest, note that the preparation is displayed as a positive model. When selected, the “Arch Antagonist Preview” view window as shown below appears. Next, Rotate the impression fixture and start preview scan. Dental Wings inc. Using the View button, you can display the contact areas and check the results. If needed, you can adjust the antagonist position as described in chapter 4.2.2.

DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐100 When defining the margin upon the impression scan, you should use specific parameters as follows: • Manual editing of the margin line (“No optimization (manual)”) • Use alternate projection When manually editing the margin line, simply indicate the points of the margin. You can adjust them as usual. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐101 4.2.7 How to Scan a Wax-­‐up (7Series & 5Series only) The DWOS software includes the ability to scan a wax-­‐up model and replicate what was scanned. This function can be of particular use if you have a wax-­‐up that was generated by hand and the User would like to digitize it for options to manufacture digitally. To do, you will need the following components: the impression holder and the flat plate that attaches to the impression holder and the wax-­‐up to scan. In addition, please insure the “Waxing Copy” option is checked, within the “Applications” button, “Material Management” Option, “Elements Available” pull down menu. The wax-­‐up itself will need a sprue or similar small bar to fit into the impression holder and the small flat plate that comes with the impression holder. The tines of the fork on the holder and the plate will pinch shut upon the sprue so that it will not move during the scanning process. The process is as follows: Create an order and right click on units to describe each component (abutments if a bridge) as “Waxing Coping”. Note, if a bridge, do not define the pontics. In our example, we will use a bridge. Thus, the next step is to combine the defined abutments and undefined pontics into a grouping. To do, click on each abutment to activate, then right click and select the “Create a Bridge” option from the pull down menu as shown to the above right. Proceed as described in chapter 4.2.6 “5Series Impression Scanning” to install and launch the scan session as shown below: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐102 Next, define the orientation and area of interest and you will be prompted “Do you want to scan the waxing coping?” answer “OK” to begin the scan. Take note of the area of interest defined, because when prompted to scan the opposite side, you will need to select the opposite area of the arch. With the area define, start the precise scan of the upper side of the wax-­‐up by selecting green check mark, followed by the “OK” button. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐103 When done, the User is prompted to rotate the impression arm of the holder so that the bottom side of the wax-­‐up is pointing upward. If needed, the entire platform can be removed from the scanner to rotate the impression holder’s arm and reinsert within the scanner. When ready, select the “OK” button to continue scanning the underside. When prompted to define the area of interest, do not forget that you will be defining the opposite side of the arch since it is upside down. Also note, the User will be asked to define the tooth numbers from the underside of the wax-­‐up (this is normal) and prompted with which resolution to scan. It is recommended the User select the “medium” resolution. A contour area circle with handles will display around each tooth scanned (if more than one). Adjust the contour area to include just the desired tooth by adjusting the handles to include each tooth (will need to repeat if multiple teeth are scanned). The completed scan of both sides of the wax-­‐up will display as shown below: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐104 Next there are three more steps to do: 1. Remove the sprue from the scan by using the editing tools within the “Remove Scan Faces” option to cut, fill hole and smooth the area of connection accessed via the “Remove Scan Faces” option as shown below. 2. Right click on the model and select the “Export scan” option from the submenu and define the target destination for the output file(s). The second choice is #3. 3. Close the scan window by selecting the “Exit” blue button. You will be able to go into the “Applications” function, “Administrative Applications” submenu option and also find your completed design (even if you never exported within step #2). You would then “Retrieve manufacturing files” on the case as normal to generate output models. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐106 4.2.8 How to Scan a Wax-­‐up and Match to Scan Preparations (7Series & 5Series only) The DWOS software includes the ability to scan a wax-­‐up model, scan the preparations a stone model and match the wax-­‐up scan to the margins of the preparations of the stone model. This function can be of particular use if you have a wax-­‐up that was generated by hand and the User would like to adapt it to a specific case. To do, you will need the following components: the model to scan with preps, the standard 5Series holder (for the model scan), the impression holder (for the wax-­‐up scan) and the flat plat that attaches to the impression holder. The wax-­‐up itself will need a sprue or similar small bar to fit into the impression holder and the small flat plate that comes with the impression holder. The tines of the fork on the holder and the plate will pinch shut upon the sprue so that it will not move during the scanning process. The process is as follows: Create an order and describe each component (abutments if a bridge) as “Simple Coping with Waxing”. Note, if a bridge, do not define the pontics. In our example, we will use a bridge. Thus, the next step is to combine the defined abutments and undefined pontics into a grouping. To do, click on each abutment to activate, then right click and select the “Create a Bridge” option from the pull down menu as shown to the above right. Proceed as described in chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder” to install the model and launch the scan session. On the arch scan parameters window, select: • Standard holder Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐107 Select the area of interest and assign the model tooth numbers as usual and described within chapter 4.2.1. However, precise scan of the individual dies is to be done later within this procedure. Once the arch scan has scanned the model, the wax-­‐up will next be scanned using the following procedure. Select the “Start Waxing Top Preview Scan” icon as shown left. Install the wax-­‐up onto the impression holder with the sprue being firmly held between the tines of the fork. Be sure to mount the occlusal surface facing upwards. When selecting the icon, the screen below is displayed: Define the orientation and area of interest as shown below: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐108 Then start the precise scan of the upper side of wax-­‐up by selecting the “OK” button. When complete, carefully rotate the arm of the impression holder so that the lower side of the wax-­‐up will face upwards. The user is prompted to do this as shown below: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐109 The result of the two scans will display as shown below within this example. Note all sides of the scan will be merged together at this point. Next, remove the sprue from the scan by using the editing tools within the “Remove Scan Faces” option to cut, fill hole and smooth the area of connection as shown below: When done, the contact edge with the sprue should be smooth and filled. To this point the model has been scanned, the wax-­‐up has been scanned and next, the wax-­‐up it to be scanned while resting upon the model. This scan will provide the ability to “key” the model with the wax-­‐
up so that the margins on the model will be morphed into the wax-­‐up scan. This procedure is described as follows. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐110 To fit the scan of the wax-­‐model onto the stone model, a common reference has to be scanned. This is done using the “Occlusion key” scan, where the wax-­‐up is scanned on the model. To do, select the “Occlusion key” icon (as shown on the left). The wax-­‐up needs to be repositioned on the model using common points of reference. To do, right click on the wax-­‐up and select the “Reposition waxing on arch” option from the submenu, as shown below: Select three common points between the two scan, starting with gray scan first. It is important to select the same three common points, in the same order, on the blue scan. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐111 Once the common points have been selected on both models, the repositioning occurs as shown below. Next, mount the dies onto the multi-­‐die platform. Then select the “Multi-­‐die” icon to precise scan the two dies. The system will indicate the positions to use within the multi-­‐die plate. Next, define the margins as usual (please refer to chapter 6.1). Once the dies have been scanned and the margins are defined, the User is returned to the above screen. Next, select the blue “exit” button as shown above. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐112 When exiting from the scan application, the next step is to extract merging lines for the preparation(s). What this means is the User will need to do the following for each die: 1. Move the handles of the active contour area (circle) to capture all the anatomy (be careful not to clip any margin or anatomy surface 2. Then select the “Set extraction axis” button 3. Then select the “Next” button to move onto the next die. 4. Repeat the above for each die. When done defining the last contour area, select the “OK” button. 5. The User will then be prompted to “Route” the case, select “Yes”. Next, select the “CAD Engine” tab to generate a CAD model from the scanned data. Then, go into the “CAD Application” tab and drag ‘n drop your case into the design window as normal. Once the CAD proposal is displayed, right click on the wax-­‐up and select the sub-­‐menu “Edit Waxing” option. The objective to ensure that the margins are ok, i.e., some may need to be slightly adjusted. When complete, save the new wax-­‐up that has been generated from the three scans by exiting the CAD Application as normal (i.e. via the blue exit button). The procedure of “How to Scan a Wax-­‐up and Match to Scan Preparations” defined within this section is now complete. Dental Wings inc. When opening an order for a partial frameworks design icon to open a new order. Next, select the Doctor and Patient icons to enter the Doctor and Patient information. Complete the Doctor/Patient order entry by selecting the “OK” button. Next, move the order to the scanning step by selecting the “Route Order” button. Confirm intention by selecting the “Yes” button. On the arch scan parameters window, select both: • Standard holder • Palatal data needed Select the “OK” button to initiate the scan. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐118 4.2.10 How to Scan for a telescopic coping The scan to generate a telescopic coping, is the same scan procedure as to scan for a full crown. The difference is that the User will define telescopic axis and telescopic parameters as described within this section. Proceed as described within chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder” to install the model within the scanner and initiate the scan session. The orientation and definition of area of interest, model tooth number assignment, precise arch scan, precise die scan and margin line editing are to be completed as usual. Within the insertion axis definition, first define the telescopic axis (blue dot) and then the insertion axis (green dot) as shown below. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐120 4.2.11 How to Scan to Generate a Diagnostic Crown The objective is to scan a diagnostic crown (perhaps made by hand) to be used to generate an exact replica of an existing tooth, gingival area or prepared tooth. The overall scan process is very similar to scanning for a full crown with a few modifications when scan and unprepared tooth. The procedure is as follows: Open a new order as usual, however, when defining the type of prosthesis, select “Diagnostic Crown” option as shown below: Proceed as described within chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder” to install the model and launch the scan session. The orientation and definition of area of interest and model tooth number assignment are done as usual. However, when at the precise scan step, do not request a precise scan but select “Extract scan from arch scan”. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐121 Next, right click on the scan and select “Edit margin”. To simplify the margin definition, use the "No optimization (manual)” option and indicate the margin at the base of the tooth. Select the “OK” button to continue. Next, deselect the “Project Margin projection on surface” option to allow the margin to go through the proximal areas. Note, when arriving at the inter-­‐proximal areas indicate the margin handles on either side of the missing area (i.e. refrain from placing handles in the missing surface area). Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐122 If scanning an unprepared tooth, request the computation of a virtual preparation within the coping parameters table as shown below: If no tooth is present, a margin must be defined on the gingiva. A diagnostic crown can also be created over a prepared tooth. To do, scan it exactly as a crown or coping. If you decide to use the CAD mirroring function, scan the tooth to be mirrored as a diagnostic crown on the unprepared tooth. To complete the process, select the blue exit button to exit the scan function. Next, enter the “CAD Engine” to compute the model from the scan. Finally, enter the “CAD Application” and make any modifications (if necessary) and finalize the design and route to production as normal. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐124 4.2.12 How to Scan an Inlay/Onlay Scanning an inlay/onlay is quite similar than scanning die, changes will exist on margin line definition. It will also be possible to define Dental Points. Open a new order as usual, however, when defining the type of prosthesis, select “Inlay-­‐Onlay” option. (If Inlay-­‐Onlay type does not appear in the list, activate it in the available type in material definition). Proceed as described within chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder” to install the model and launch the scan session. The orientation and definition of area of interest and model tooth number assignment are done as usual. Precise scan and accurate scan of inlay-­‐onlay are also done as usual. Margin line is a little bit different; the DWOS software manages two different lines: • the margin line of the tooth including the inlay-­‐onlay cavity • the cut line following the cavity Specific software tools have been developed for inlay-­‐onlay with automatic strategies adapted for each type of lines First, after defining three points (displayed in green) at the position of the margin line, the software submits a proposal of the margin line. This icon will allow describing specific dental points (cusp, ridge, fossa) on the remaining part of the tooth supporting the inlay-­‐onlay. Only define point existing on the scan and not where it should be. Left click on the position where you want to define some specific points, position can be adjusted and deleted by clicking on an existing point. Dental Wings inc. It will also be possible to define Incisal Edge. Open a new order as usual, however, when defining the type of prosthesis, select “Anatomical Veneer” option. (If anatomical veneer type does not appear in the list, activate it in the available type in material definition). Proceed as described within chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder” to install the model and launch the scan session. The orientation and definition of area of interest and model tooth number assignment are done as usual. Precise scan and accurate scan of anatomical veneer are also done as usual. Margin line is a little bit different; the DWOS software manages two different lines: • the margin line of the tooth including the veneer cavity • the cut line following the cavity Specific software tools have been developed for veneer with automatic strategies adapted for each type of lines First, after defining three points (displayed in green) at the position of the margin line, the software submits a proposal of the margin line. It could also be used when creating an “usual” pontic for being able to define the gingival area. The overall scan process is very similar to scanning for a full crown with. Open a new order as usual, however, when defining the type of prosthesis, select “Diagnostic Pontic”. Proceed as described within chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder” to install the model and launch the scan session. The orientation and definition of area of interest and model tooth number assignment are done as usual. Diagnosis pontic area will not be displayed as Pontic and will need to be accurately scan ( at the precise scan step, do not request a precise scan but select “Extract scan from arch scan”) A margin line has to be defined for a Diagnosis Pontic, right click on the scan and select “Edit margin”. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐132 4.2.15 How to Scan Gingiva If you need to scan gingiva area, select Gingiva data needed within the arch scan parameters window: The orientation and definition of area of interest, model tooth number assignment and the global precise scan are done as described within chapter 4.2.1 “Scan with standard holder”. When done, the following window requests that you install the gingiva and define its area. Press the Ok button to initiate the scan. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐134 4.2.16 How to Scan Cases Mounted with Articulator The SAM articulator is delivered with the 7Series and is an optional add-­‐on product with the 3Series. The procedure is to first articulate your stone models using the magnetic plates that are delivered with the articulator. These plates are attached to the both the upper and lower stone model arches and placed within the articulator. Please see the articulator instructions for proper use. Once the upper and lower arches are articulated, carefully remove and place the each arch into the scanner, leaving the magnetic plates attached to each arch. These plates are compatible with the scanner and will lock into place via the magnets much like the standard holder. Follow the usual scan procedures for the “standard holder”, followed by the CAD Engine step. When within the CAD design step, the model will then display the following icons. To access the articulator information, select the articulation icon. Within the articulation function, excursive movements can be emulated respecting changeable parameter settings. Once satisfied with the movements, exit this function by selecting the “OK” button. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 4-­‐1 5 Crown and Bridge CAD Session 5.1 CAD Principles 5.1.1 CAD Engine & Proposal Editing The CAD prosthesis design function is divided in two steps: • CAD engine, which automatically converts scanned data to submit to the CAD Application for prosthesis design • CAD Application, which provides editing tools to customize the auto-­‐generated proposal Both the CAD Engine and CAD Application are accessed through main toolbar. CAD Engine CAD Application When selecting the CAD Engine function, the computation of all scanned cases automatically begins and will display its progress as shown below: Dental Wings inc. The status “Prosthesis Done” means a particular “item” on an order has completed its computation. note this computation must be completed on each order before continuing onto the CAD Application as shown below: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 5-­‐3 When selecting CAD Application, the application main window is displayed and lists the orders ready for CAD review or editing. To select an order, drag it and drop it into the main window or double click on the order number and the design proposal will display within the “CAD Design View” window. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 5-­‐4 5.1.2 Differences between Anatomy & Overlay The Dental Wings prosthesis design software has adopted an “Outside to Inside” design strategy. This approach enables you to design full contour crowns by taking into account the full clinical situation in one design step. Once done with the crown design, the framework design is automatically computed from the full prosthesis morphology, if requested. To achieve this, the DWOS CAD software works with two different elements: • Anatomy: full contour morphology design • Overlay: framework design Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 5-­‐5 The DWOS CAD software includes advanced display features that assist the User when working upon these two elements: • Transparency view • Cross sectional view where a slice of each element is visible: anatomy and overlay Anatomy and Overlay designs have context sensitive adjustment options. For example, the occlusion is adjusted with the anatomy and a dental band is adjusted with the overlay. These tools are described in detail within this chapter. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 5-­‐6 The overlay is computed with respect to the Anatomy design. Therefore, when a modification is applied to the Anatomy, the Overlay is automatically updated. For example, in the case of a clinical coping, the DWOS software will update an overlay to compensate for the porcelain thickness. Below illustrates this example: Initial Situation Anatomy Edited Automatic Update of Overlay Constant Thickness for Porcelain However, a modification applied to the Overlay will not affect the Anatomy. If edits are first applied to the overlay (substructure) prior to anatomy edits, the DWOS CAD software will take into account these overlay edits and the anatomy can be “readapted”. The overlay’s defined ceramic interface will always respect the “minimum thickness” followed by the “cement gap” that are defined within the material default settings or overwritten by the User. In the case of an anatomical coping, the overlay will be projected on the minimum surface from the equator down, to give space for the ceramic, even if an equator space of 0 mm is set. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 5-­‐7 5.1.3 Clinical Parameters Definitions The Dental Wings prosthesis design software is clinically oriented and allows the User the ability to set the clinical parameters needed for design. The parameters are managed in two different ways: • Parameters tables for general prosthesis parameters, e.g. prosthesis type and minimum thickness. Parameters tables will differ according to prosthesis type. These parameters will be used for the computation of the automatic proposal of the prosthesis. • Tool parameters to manage local parameters, e.g. diastema value or prehension item diameter. Please refer to chapter 4.2.1.8 for an overview of Parameter tables. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 5-­‐11 5.1.4 Recompute and Re-­‐Adapt One of the main advantages of the DWOS Crown & Bridge CAD software is its unique flexibility that allows the User the ability to change the elements of a prosthesis such as: • Margin and Collars lines • Friction Parameters • Anatomy • Prosthesis Type • Material choice • Bridge organization While still being able to generate a automatic computation. These changes can be applied at anytime. Only one element cannot be changed: lower or upper arch definition. Therefore, be careful when the arch (upper or lower) This selection cannot be changed once defined. Refer to chapter 5.1.7 Edit order to know to apply change to all the order. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 5-­‐12 To change an element of the prosthesis, right click on the prosthesis and select the appropriate item within the menu. If selecting the “Edit margin line” option, the edit margin line window is activated (please refer to chapter 4.2.1.8). Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 5-­‐13 If selecting the “Recompute” option, the User may change the insertion axis and friction parameters. This menu will re-­‐compute everything; anatomy, overlay and connectors, if any, as if the design was coming straight from the CAD Engine function. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 5-­‐14 When selecting “Recompute” option, the Prosthesis Parameters window will display as shown below and the listed parameters may be modified e.g. insertion axis, cement values, minimum thickness, etc. (please refer to chapter 4.2.1.8 for more details). Prosthesis type and prosthesis parameters (both Coping and Reduction), can also be modified through the two others tabs. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 5-­‐15 The “Re-­‐Adapt Anatomy” option, allows the User to change the tooth number and referenced anatomy kit (please refer to the next section for further details). Re-­‐Adapt Anatomy readapts the corresponding anatomy to the current clinical preparation; this will also recompute the overlay and connectors (if any are present). Select the new tooth number and/or family kit and press the OK button.
Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 5-­‐16 The “Recompute Overlay” option, allows the User to change the prosthesis type and the associated parameters. It should be noted that even if the re-­‐computation of the overlay is automatic within the software, you can force an overlay computation to more accurately respect the Equator handle, Cervical handle, Groove handle, Cusp handle and Reduction Parameters. They can also be changed using the same interface as in the parameters validation in the margin design view. The overlay that defines the ceramic interface, will always first respect the minimum thickness value and after try to respect the cement gap given by the user. Thus, the final computation will always be reconciliation between the two parameters. In the case of an anatomical coping, the overlay will be projected on the minimum thickness from the equator down, to give space for the ceramic, even if an equator space of 0 mm is set. These parameters will be detailed within section 5.4.2. Dental Wings inc. It could be very useful for a bridge with common insertion axis where you change the insertion axis: recompute bridge will ensure that all items of the bridge are recomputed and you’ll need to manually recompute all of them one by one.

DWOS prosthesis design software provides two different families: • DW kit: usual resolution family (default family) • DW Hi Res kit: high resolution family (recommended for full or Overpressed) You can create additional kits (refer to chapter 8 Anatomy kit editor). The choice of the anatomy kit is made when creating the order. Dental Wings inc. Customization s can be applied on: • The whole prosthesis using Transform s tool • Particular clinical area using Clinical Handles • Locally using Add/Remove material DWOS software includes a very useful display function when using these different customization tools. When pressing the keyboard bar space, only the element under customization is displayed. If you release the bar space, all the elements are displayed. DWOS software also includes useful UNDO and REDO functions. Pressing both Ctrl and Z will undo the last action, up to 100 actions can be undone. Pressing Ctrl and Y will redo the last undone action. DWOS software allows advanced editing functions: • Multi prostheses editor: fast and intuitive switch between prostheses • Multi -­‐Designer editor: fast and intuitive switch between editing tools Dental Wings inc. A Side View with the cross-­‐section in the current view axis of the preparation, overlay section, anatomy section and antagonist section is displayed at the bottom right of the main 3D window. From yellow to red, if you add material, from light to dark blue if you remove material. Note that when removing wax, the software will automatically limit the removal to the minimal thickness defined for your prosthesis. It is a coping with regular thickness of material. No anatomy is managed. Simple coping definition does not include any parameters. This choice will be done when during Margin edition (refer to chapter 4.2.1.8) and can be modified using recompute function (refer to chapter 5.1.4). If you decide to manage same insertion axis for all the elements, select the Enforce 3-­‐Axis Milling checkbox. Dental Wings inc. The two areas on mesial and distal tooth are available for edition (blue lines and handles), including the center section (orange handles). To adjust the area shape just press and drag the handle where you need it to be. You can reduce or increase the diameter of the area by rolling the mouse-­‐wheel while pressing on a handle. For example, if you want to make the connector thicker at the center, press the mouse button on an orange handle and simultaneously roll the wheel. It is recommended to hide the anatomies while editing a connector; use the Show/Hide Anatomy Button at the top center of the main 3D window. To center the view on the current connector just double-­‐click on it, it should zoom and center the camera. Dental Wings inc. Note the parameter window includes on 3D view that allows you to check the results of your handle adjustments Correct interference with gingiva will automatically reshape the connector to generate room between the connector and the gingival. The value of this space is adjustable. Recompute connector will automatically recompute the connector without modifying the mesial and distal contour. It can be useful to cancel edition applied on the orange handle. Before recomputing, the connector shape can be changed (see chapter 9.4.10 Connections parameters) Dental Wings inc. This application brings you to the highest level of productivity possible: • 30 copings scanned and designed automatically (i.e. unattended) with the 7Series scanner in about 15 minutes • 6 copings scanned an designed automatically (i.e. unattended) with the 3Series scanner in about 10 minutes The multi-­‐die application optimizes the overall procedure by combining the scan and CAD functions. To do this, it uses a specific holder for each scanner than can hold up to: • 30 dies for the 7Series scanner • 6 dies for the 3Series scanner Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 6-­‐1 6.1 Automatic Multi-­‐Die Scan & Design (Unattended) The following steps are to scan and design in automatic mode. Open case(s) and route to the next step: a. Define Doctor and Patient b. Define indication: simple copings When opening a case, the following should be done for each tooth(s) by using their respective drop down menus: c. Define the Doctor by left clicking upon the Doctor Icon to select from existing list or enter the name of a new Doctor within the field. d. Define a Patient by selecting from an existing Doctor’s list or selecting the “New” button to enter a new Patient’s first and last names. e. Select an intended production “Material” for each coping. Within the example above, “DWOS Ceramic” is selected. f. Define the type of Prosthesis as “Simple Coping”. g. Define the tooth number(s) for each coping(s) by left clicking respective tooth number(s) on either arch. h. Repeat until all the stumps are defined. Dental Wings inc. In our example there are three cases: one with four dies, the other two with one die each. First the case with four dies is loaded by right clicking on the case id and selecting the “Auto Assign” feature. Four dies on case On die on these two cases 4. Two features will be used. The first is the “Auto Assign” feature. To do, right click upon the order number and select the “Auto Assign” option. Each slot within the platform, will then be assigned a die from the case starting from top-­‐down as displayed within the order as shown below: Dental Wings inc. When mounting the dies onto the multi-­‐die holder, it is important to match the dies to the positions displayed upon the screen and to insert them into the holder with the dies’ buccal side pointing in the same direction the triangular marker is pointing that is imprinted upon the multi-­‐
die holder. 7. Initiate the scan session by selecting the “Start scanning and auto-­‐computation” icon: This icon will automatically find the die margin, calculate the insertion axes and generate the CAD simple coping design for all dies upon plate. This icon will begin scanning, allowing the User to manually define each die’s margin and axes of insertion and automatically calculate the CAD simple coping design. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 6-­‐4 The scanner will then begin scanning and stop once all six dies designs have been completed. 8. Next, the User can then leave the scanner unattended until all the dies upon the plate have been scanned and their CAD designs have been generated. The next step is to verify the generated design with the given prescription and modify (if needed). To do, right click on each design and select “Edit CAD design” as shown below: Dental Wings inc. Then some material is added by right clicking on the design and selecting the “Add/Remove Material” feature, activating the “Add” followed by a “Smooth” option. Move between editing features The User can use any of the editing tools until satisfied with the modifications. Note that you can go between features by select the tabs and not having to close your editing session. For more information on the DWOS editing features, please refer to the Editing section within the User’s Guide.

The fully placed orders are automatically removed from order list that are waiting to be scanned. You may mix items from different orders onto the same multi-­‐die plate. Repeat the procedure for all items that are to be scanned within the multi-­‐die session. If a mistake is made, Right Click upon the erroneously assigned slot position to access to local menu. Then select the “Unassign” option to remove from the multi-­‐die plate. Dental Wings inc. Note: The buccal side of the die should be oriented on the arrow side of the plate Once the plate is loaded with the desired dies, install the holder inside the scanner so that the above shown arrow upon the plate, is towards the scanner’s door. The dispositions are: • Completed prosthesis designs (will display the prosthesis) • Dies waiting for margins (will display the die). Select Edit current margin. This local menu is where the rescan option for a given die can be found. When needed, select “Rescan on Multi-­‐die plate” option to rescan a particular die. The two default Dental Wings (DW kit and DW Hi Res kit) cannot be deleted or modified. For duplicating a family, right click on the family to duplicate to access to its local menu and select Duplicate kit. Enter the name of the new family The new family appears in the list and local menu is accessible on this family by right click Dental Wings inc. Export and import order functions save and restore all the date related to an order (scan, prosthesis design, manufacturing and administrative data). Export order is accessible through local menu of an order in the Administrative application main window. Export order is accessible on the order level, not at the order item level Export order requests you to define the path where the file will be saved. For importing STL files select the Scan Import Application by clicking on its icon in the main toolbar. According to the scanner used for creating the STL files, the elements are not oriented in the same referential. Use the options section to automatically orient the elements. The imported elements are displayed. They should be in occlusal view. If it is not the case, you can adjust the orientation by answering YES to the following question. Production can be done locally using an integrated production solution such as Perfactory (refer to chapter 9.8) or other local device. Production can also be subcontracted; in this case Production Management will manage DHS connections (see chapter 10.2) and manages production status of your production partner. First you will decide if production is done local or subcontracted. If done locally, you will retrieve the file or use Perfactory station. When your local production will be achieved; you will close your order. If you subcontract, DHS will manage automatically the production. For starting production management click on its icon in the main toolbar. The main window of Production Management will appear: Orders can be sorted by date using the button on the left side. An advance search function is also available. Bottom part display a summary of the order (a preview of the prosthesis can be displayed) Dental Wings inc. According to the step of production the actions list will change. At the order level, local menu permits you to choose production mode (local or subcontracted) If Local Production is selected, you can retrieve the file as described in chapter 8.1.2 or cancel your production mode choice. It is a full automatic process based on the measurement of known specific physical elements (plate, sphere…) that are specific to your scanner. If you are running several scanners, take care not to exchange these elements. Be also very careful with the calibration elements, their surface is fragile. Dental Wings recommends calibrating every two weeks. For starting Calibration Application press the gear icon in the main tool bar and select Calibration Application. Calibration process lasts about 10 minutes. The plate & sphere surfaces are fragile The main 5Series calibration window is as follow: Fast Calibration : A calibration that omits the longer calibration routines. Suitable for periodic recalibration of the scanner. The first time a scanner is attached to a computer, a fast calibration will not be possible. It takes about 20 minutes to do a fast calibration. Complete calibration: Full calibration of the scanner. It must be performed before using the scanner for the first time. It takes about a one hour and a half to do full calibration. A full calibration is usually used when the scanner was moved or transported. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 10-­‐52 11 Optional software module 11.1 Getting Started with Implants The Dental Wings DWOS software implant module offers extensive capabilities that allow you to create custom abutment designs faster, with increased accuracy and esthetics. However, there are a few things the User needs to do first. The Dental Wings DWOS software implant module supports most commercially available implant systems. To begin, you need to choose the implant system brand(s), for which you wish to design custom abutments. Next, an “Implant Kit” for each brand of Implant system will need to be defined (step by step instructions are listed are described within this chapter). Please note that most implant interfaces are proprietary to each vendor and typically available for purchase from either your implant system supplier or through third party manufacturers. Once you have decided which implant system to work with, follow the instructions within this chapter on how to define “an Implant Kit”. The procedure to generate a kit is performed with the Dental Wings “Implant Kit Editor” and performed only once per kit. Step by step instructions are provided under “How to define an Implant Kit”. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐1 11.2 Implant module The DWOS software implant module provides the tools to design single or multiple custom abutment designs within the same arch. To fully implement the Implant module, the following is required: • A scanning jig, which is the physical piece that is screwed or placed inside the implant stone model and when scanned, it will define the position of the implant within the patient. • A defined implant kit that describes the geometric and dimensional information of the kit’s components: scanning jig, implant body, implant interface (if used), implant transfer (if used) and screw (if used ). The following is an overview of the steps to design custom abutments: 1. Verify for each material type that will be used in your Custom Abutment designs, to activate the “check” mark associated to the “Biomediface (Abutments)” option within the “Output Formats” pull down 2. Create a new order 3. Scan model using a scanning jig 4. Initiate the CAD Engine to generate a CAD model 5. Using the CAD application, design your custom abutment 6. Generate the production output When the implant module is installed, the icon of CAD application includes a screw as shown below: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐2 11.3 How to Define an Implant kit The different implant specific components: jig, implant, implant interface, implant transfer and screw, are used to design a customized abutment. These components are defined within the Dental Wings Prosthesis Design software using the Implant Kit Manager. To start the Implant Kit manager, press the gear icon within the main tool bar and select Implant Kit. The main Implant kit window appears: This window is organized in two areas: • List of existing implant kits • Description of selected implant kit To import an existing implant kit library, right click on Implant option displayed within the upper left part of the window and select Import Implant Kit from the assistant. Note: compatible DWOS implant kits have the extension is “.IPFLIB” as a file type. If you do not have this extension, your library needs to be converted. When the library kit is successfully added, it will be added to the available implant kit library list as shown below: Dental Wings inc. You will see the parts numbers change according to manufacturer’s specifications. Now using the left mouse button, click on the Preview button for a particular component within the library kit and a display of the component is displayed. Take note that not all components for each implant interface are required. The green “√” as shown above indicates it is a defined component of the library. The red “X”s indicate that this component does not exist and is not needed for that interface design. If you click on all the green Preview buttons, then a complete synchronized assembly of the defined library kit components will display as shown below: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐6 11.4 How to Create Your Own Implant Library Kit For those whom have the ability to generate their own implant kit library, the Dental Wings design software provides an easy tool to generate your own kit. This is a two step process. First you will generate your own implant component designs and export an .STL for each component that will be a member of your library kit. The second step it to then use these .STL component files with the Implant Editor to assemble into a library kit for use by the Dental Wings Customer Abutment design software. 11.4.1 How to Assemble an Implant Library Kit from .STLS First create a New manufacturer and enter its name. Then select New Implant Kit in the local menu of the new manufacturer An empty implant kit definition page is displayed Dental Wings inc. To do, select the Assign button and define the path to locate each component .STL file. Next begin work on your case by either double clicking on case ID or dragging it into the design window. The automatic proposal for anatomy and customized abutment are displayed. When making design changes, the custom abutment is managed as an overlay. Dental Wings inc. To access the parameters, select the Prosthesis Type tab as shown below: The design parameters are displayed. Make any desired changes followed by pressing the OK button. There are now three available choices: 1) modify the design you custom abutment 2) add a coping over the custom abutment 3) generate an Overpress (anatomy) design. The Transforms function on the custom abutment, allows modification of the overlay (abutment) above and below the gingiva. Dental Wings inc. The coping can be displayed outside the arch for viewing off the abutment by selecting the Apply Displacement option and the coping is displayed as shown below: Dental Wings inc. To do, select the Overpressed Design function and the overpress anatomy is generated. Parameters are defined as usual for an Overpressed Design (please refer to chapter 5.8). When completing the CAD design function, a separate output is generated for each component designed. In the above Overpressed design example, three components are created as shown within the Production function below as follows: • One for customized abutment • One for coping • One for overpress (anatomy) Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐28 11.4.5 How to Import an Order with an Implant You can import a previously defined order and exported order that contains an implant. To do, begin by refereeing to chapter 8.2. When prompted with the menu below, indicate the file path location and name of the order to import. Next indicate the file type as “order”. Then, select the order’s corresponding implant kit as shown as shown below: Finish by completing your desired design intention with your custom abutment design as usual. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐29 11.4.6 How to manage customized abutment with regards insertion axis DWOS Implant module provides two ways to manage abutment w/r insertion axis: • User will be free to manage shape of the customized abutment (as described in chapter 10.4.4) • Software will ensure parallelism of the abutment w/r insertion axis. This chapter describes this second powerful option For using this option, appropriate option Abutment Parallel to Insertion Axis must be checked in the custom abutment parameter window: When selected, the sides of the abutment computed are automatically parallel to insertion axis. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐34 11.5 DHS – Dental Hub System The DHS software is the communication backbone of the DWOS solution and is fully integrated. This integration is key to its ability to seamlessly transfer data from any step in the DWOS process to another, within an easy to use and secure environment. To move data, the User “subcontracts” the data to the desired place. Most commonly, any case (regardless of its step) can be subcontracted to a Design or Production Center. Moreover, once transferred, information about the case is “real time” and available to the sender. For example, once subcontracted, the User can see from his station if the case is being milled, packaged and/or shipped. This intelligent two way communication greatly assists in the User in case management. DHS is also capable of subcontracting work at different operational steps (e.g. subcontracting open prosthesis designs or completed designs for manufacture). Intelligence is built into DHS. For example, finished designs can be subcontracted only to a Production Center that is defined as “capable” of producing a given material type. Scans can be subcontracted (outsourced) to a Design Center for completion and later subcontracted to a Production Center. Finally, by design, DHS has the flexibility to be easily be updated to grow and evolve with your environment. The communication can be both internal or external (a partner) who is defined within the communication framework and using DHS. The DWOS software indicates if a valid DHS connection is present. An indicator is located with the lower right main DWOS window. Red indicates no DHS connection. Green indicates a DHS connection.

Please note that each site’s data is unique. Therefore, it is suggested you refer to the information provided by your Dental Wings representative prior to filling in the panel. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐36 11.5.2 How to Subcontract using DHS The DHS software can easily subcontract a design to Manufacturing. Subcontracting an order is done within either the Administrative Application or Production Management functions. When within either function, the subcontract menu is accessed by a right click on either the order number or item number and subcontract a design or order as shown below. An order item or entire order can be subcontracted as shown below. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐37 To Subcontract a completed design or an order that is within the “CAD engine” state (and beyond), you will “Subcontract Design”, accessible at the order and order item level within the Administrative Application via a right click on either the order or order item as shown below. Order information can be passed to the Production Center when typed within the field above. Dental Wings inc. And the ability to define a choice of material color, if defined, for a given Production Center. Press OK to subcontract the job. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐40 DHS will now automatically transfer the job files to the requested Production Center. The status bar, show the transfer progress. DHS updates the order status and identifies that the routed jobs have been successfully received by the Production Center and are awaiting their acceptance (i.e. waiting within their “inbox”). Once accepted, the status is updated to reflect the job acceptance by the Production Center as shown below. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐41 Production management automatically provides a unique internal order ID (listed within the Remote ID column) to ensure all cases can be easily tracked, especially if routed more that once or to more than one Production Center. In addition, the “Remote Status” column provides the routing party with a real time disposition of their order. When subcontracting an open design, the process is the identical, however, the DHS update status will reflect the appropriate status. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐42 11.6 Nesting Station-­‐ Milling Job Block Preparation & CAM Generation The Nesting Station function provides an easy to use method to manage milling block preparation that are loaded with completed designs. In addition, an integrated CAM (Computer Assisted Manufacturing) process can be used for milling through the use of a CAM engine. To begin the Nesting Station function, click on its icon within the main toolbar as shown below: The main Nesting Station window will appear: This window is organized in 3 areas as follows: • Orders ready to be produced (you can filter for new orders only) • Active milling block • Orders placed on active milling block A nesting specific toolbar is also present on the right side. There are three general steps when using this feature which are: 1) generation of block(s) definition(s), 2) nesting of order items of completed design within the block and 3) generation and transfer of a CAM job to be milled. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐43 The first step within the procedure is to create and define a milling block to be later used with the orders or order items when nesting. To do, select the block option icon: The Nesting Station function will define disks and cuboid blocks. It is important to please refer to your block material supplier to obtain the needed information within the fields below: Once the block information is entered, save the block by pressing the “Save Block” button. You are now ready to nest order or order items into this newly defined block. The next step is to load the block with designs to be milled. To do, select the block from the “Nesting Blocks List” by clicking on the block’s name. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐44 When a block is loaded, an empty block is displayed showing its top and side views. As defined by the loaded block definition, the Nesting Station function displays in green the orders that fit within the block and in red, the orders that do not as shown below: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐45 To add an order or an item order on the block, select and drag and drop onto the block at the intended position. The green “ +” button as shown below, will also add the order to the block placing the item within the center of the block. Repeat procedure for the order or order item intended for the block. Editing Options: An item may be removed from the block by selecting item to make active, then pressing the “DEL” key on the keyboard to remove active item from the block. The “ “ button will also remove selected item from the plate. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐46 An item can be moved within the disk by dragging to a new block position as shown below: An item can be rotated by selecting an item, then while press and holding the left mouse button, rolling the mouse wheel. The Nesting Station function automatically checks during order positioning for interferences with other items and violations of defined minimum distance to edge requirements. Placed items with boundary violations are displayed in red to alert the User. Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐47 It is recommended that block usage be optimized by arranging orders as shown below. Note, unused areas of blocks may be used during another milling run, as a visual record of block usage is kept. Once all desired items are loaded into the block, connectors must be generated. These connectors can be added either manually or generated automatically. To do, right click on an item and select the “Edit Connectors” option to define milling and sintering connectors. The “Nesting Connector Designer” window appears as shown below: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐48 The toolbar below provides the connector options which are shown below: Add a Milling Connector (manually) Add a Sintering Connector (manually) Automatically Add All Connectors (both milling and sintering) Automatically Add Milling Connectors Automatically Add Sintering Connectors Remove Selected Connector Remove All Connectors Some milled materials require post-­‐milling sintering, e.g. zirconia, that will slightly shrink the prosthesis to a known controlled size. Materials of this type require “sintering connectors” (or supports), that the Dental Wings software can automatically or manually generate. These sintering supports are commonly used with bridges units. Similarly, milling connectors are required to support the milled prosthesis within the block itself. The milling connectors can also be automatically or manually generated by the User. There is also an option that will generate both sintering and milling connectors using the “Automatically Add All Connectors” option. To manually add a milling connector, left click on the “Add Milling Connector” icon. When the mouse is moved onto the surface of the prosthesis, a connector will appear and will move with the mouse displaying either green or red, until placed by left clicking. The software validates the connector placement. That is, when the connector is “green” the placement is valid, when the connector displays “red” the placement is invalid (e.g. too close to another connector). Both of these examples are shown below: Dental Wings inc. DWOS 3.0 user guide STI75-­‐0028 11-­‐49 To manually add sintering connectors, it works in a similar way using the “Add Sintering Connector” icon: These connectors can automatically be generated when loading the block when indicated within the block definition by “checking” one or both of the options shown below. The reference number for only one order can also be displayed. To do, select the “Toggle Reference Number” option as shown below: Undercuts can be checked by selecting the central view icon, then the “Toggle Undercuts” within the local menu as shown: Dental Wings inc. As shown below, enter the path location of the STL file to import. Repeat the above connector options until all need connectors are generate. Next and final step is to generate a job to be milled. To do this, left click the “Mill Block” icon: The Nesting Station allows for a direct interface between Dental Wings and a CAM engine. This “handshake” between CAD and CAM occurs when you the pass the part nesting just completed, to the CAM engine. This occurs when filling in the following fields below. When completely filled out, begin the job creation for the mill by selecting the OK button. Dental Wings inc. When done, the confirmation notification is displayed as shown below: The “Block Options” feature manages the use blocks. Using the “Nesting Job Options” tab, the User can visually traverse through the past physical usage of each block and to allow continued milling on the unused portions of the block. To reuse a block, select the desired block and press the “Load Job” button. Dental Wings inc.
