PLEASE BE SURE TO PARK IN THIS AREA ONLY MY OWN PERSONAL INDENTITY THEFT STORY By Chuck Woldum This crime as you know is increasing in alarming numbers. A person transferred the money he owed to one bank to my bank/credit card via a balance transfer process. This crook obtained my credit card number and the other information he/she needed and had his/her debt paid off by my bank. This fraud was detected in time and my money was retrieved. Considerable time has been spent with my bank, the crook’s bank, the fraud sections of the two banks and the police. My sole purpose of passing this story on is to remind you to be very careful to check your accounts and make sure your financial accounts have not been compromised. In talking to those mentioned they told stories of identity theft one could not believe. The place was packed! Ninety-two retirees and their guests attended lunch and this afternoon’s performance based on the movie from long ago. The music was original (not tunes from the movie), played by an experienced ten piece band. The story closely followed the antics of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe lounge singer who witnesses a murder and must hide from the bad guys until her court appearance to testify. The Convent turns out to be her hideout while she waits for the trial, thanks to a generous contribution from the police to the aging Catholic church. Deloris’ background doesn’t quite fit in with the nuns, who remain cloistered in the convent. Deloris does her best to transform the nuns’ choir into a swinging, hip ensemble with dance moves and clap-happy music that the church finds welcome. The bad guys try to infiltrate the church to capture Deloris, but the nuns protect her as if she was one of their own. In the end the police capture the murdering crew and save Deloris. The nuns new music style even attracts the pope to visit the church to hear the new tunes. Costumes and choreography were entertaining, and the audience appeared to enjoy the performances. Excellent singers, especially “sister Mary Clarence” (aka Deloris) and Mother Superior, were top notch. THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS by Linda Hauck The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is based on the true story. The best bordello in Texas dated back to 1915, when Jessie Williams purchased an old farmhouse on 12 acres on the border of La Grange, where it existed in harmony with the law and local citizens for nearly 50 years. During the Depression, the girls traded services for farm goods and livestock. So many chickens were received that hen houses were set up for poultry and egg production - hence the name Chicken Ranch. In 1960 Edna Milton purchased the property from Miss Jessie's estate and did a first-class remodeling job. It was under Miss Edna's direction that the house of prostitution reached its greatest fame of a legendary Texas Brothel known as the Chicken Ranch, which operated from the 1840s to 1973, protected by a friendly Sheriff and frequented by politicians. Girls come from all over to work at the ranch and make a little extra cash. However, a crusading do-gooder Houston radio commentator and his conservative audience expose the Chicken Ranch, forcing it to shut its doors forever. The talk is racy and unrestrained, but all in fun. Fortyeight retirees attended this lively and engaging performance at the Bloomington Artistry. 5 SEX PLEASE, WE’RE SIXTY - Day Trippers Theater - Thursday, March 17 Lunch: 12:30 Show: 1:30 p.m. Coordinator: Vicki Bruesehoff - 651-452-0265 Lunch: Pork loin, wild rice, salad, vegetable, beverage, dessert Cost Per Person Active Member $25.00 Reservation Cutoff and Last day to cancel unless sold out: March 10 Inactive Member $40.00 Tickets mailed: March 12 If you yourself, (or anyone you know), have had Menopausal hot flashes, sweats, and erratic hormonal activity, you will relate and laugh yourself silly, at "SEX PLEASE, WE'RE SIXTY,” a saucy, senior, scandal. We really appreciate it. Techie Questions from Members Do you have any specific questions about technology or something specific you would like to see covered in this column? Send your suggestions, questions, and comments to the club at [email protected]. We will try to address them in future issues. First I have to apologize to all of you that are waiting for the article on upgrading to Windows 10. I have not had any time to actually do the upgrade myself so I will have to delay the article for another month. I will do everything in my power to get the article ready for next month. Sorry for the delay. I had two other questions sent in and they both requrie a lot of research so I think I will try and cover the oldest one first. The question is: ‘We all have a plethora of electronic devices that require battery charging: tablets, phones, cameras, etc. They often can be charged thru their USB port using a supplied cable that gets power from a computer, or thru a special adapter right from a 110v wall outlet. My question is: are the various cables and 110 adapters interchangeable, or is there something unique that requires the use of only the one that came with the gadget.’ This is a good question that I will try an answer. From my research on the topic it looks like if the adapter has a place to plug in a USB cable then that adapter should be able to be used for all the devices that have a USB to Micro-USB or other connector without any issues. In this case you would only have to have one USB charging brick. If the adapter has a cable that goes directly to your device you have a different problem because in this case the adapter may be doing the conversion to a very specific voltage for the device. Most modern day devices do use the USB charging brick approach. As my research indicated there may be a difference in the ratings on these charging bricks. While all will work the lower rated ones may charge slower than the higher rated ones. The newest ones here are the Smart Chargers. All this helps some but you still will have to have most of the cables that go from the USB brick to the device as many of the devices have different connectors at the device end. As I found out the other day when I needed to charge my iPhone and the cable was in the car. I have 4-5 other devices that plug into the brick but none of them had the connector I needed to plug into my iPhone. Of course the manufacturers don’t want to make everything common so they don’t have a way of getting a little extra money from you. Here are a couple of links where you can go and find out more details: http://lifehacker.com/5877809/you-dont-need-all-those-chargers-how-to-condolidateyour-extra-bricks-and-still-power-your-gadgets http://gizmodo.com/can-i-use-the-same-charger-for-multiple-devices-510829339 7 RIVERDANCE - State Theater SATURDAY, March 26 - 2:00 p.m. Coordinator: Vicki Bruesehoff - 651-452-0265 Cost Per Person Active Member $40.00 Reservation Cutoff and Last day to cancel unless sold out: March 18 Inactive Member $60.00 Tickets mailed: March 19 These Irish dancers are the best - their timing, their versatility and talent will totally thrill you.
