The Games will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 to 21, 2016. More than 10,000 athletes from 205 countries will complete for muchcoveted medals and recognition in this South American country. Omega is the Official Timekeeper of the event – a role it has held on 26 occasions since the 1932 Olympics. Omega’s tireless research and development into timing has yielded some of the most precise timing in the world. The brand has built elaborate, incredibly technical equipment that broadcasts event times almost instantaneously. In fact, to time the Games for the 27th time, the brand brings in more than 250 on-site professionals, trains hundreds of volunteers and ships in more than 200 tons of cutting-edge equipment. New Omega Myria camera Typically, in the year leading up to the Olympics, Omega builds countdown clocks around the city and plans its on-site timing. This year, though, the brand also unveils a charity component. Revealed just minutes ago at an event in Rio de Janeiro, Omega announced its partnership with Viva Rio, a Brazilian non-profit organization that works in health, education, environment and other areas to promote a culture of peace and social inclusion. Omega Timing at the London Olympics Now, together with Viva Rio, Omega has devised a community countdown that involves 12 “social action” projects that will take place over the course of 12 months. The program is aimed at strengthening the educational and socioeconomic growth in Rio by focusing on children and their families in an effort to give back to the host city and leave a lasting impression. Over the years, Omega has researched and developed all sorts of new technology to time the Olympic Games The first Social Action (Social Action #1) is support for vulnerable mothers. Expected to benefit approximately 500 women annually, this first project takes place in the Costa Barros, North Zone, of Rio, where violence is exceptionally high. Omega will revitalize a specialize center where pregnant women and mothers can gain help, education and healthcare from a multi-disciplinary team of professionals. Support for vulnerable mothers Additionally, Omega has developed a program to raise awareness and additional funds for all of the Viva Rio projects. BY utilizing the organization’s heart-shaped logo, Omega has created a social activation campaign — #OmegaVivaRio. Through multiple social media platforms (including facebook instagram and twitter), Omega invites users to create their own heart symbol and post it. For every heart posted with the hash tag (#omegavivario), Omega will donate 16 cents to the charity as an additional pledge of commitment. Omega Seamaster Bullhead Rio 2016 watch Earlier this year, at BaselWorld 2015, Omega unveiled the newest watch designed for the Summer Games. The Seamaster Bullhead Rio 2016 Limited Edition watch celebrates Omega’s rich heritage of precision and innovation. The watch features an Olympic Rings color scheme. The blue leather strap features stitching on each side in yellow, green, red and black to recall the colors of the Olympic rings. The 60-minutes rotating inner-bezel also sports the color theme. Omega Seamaster Bullhead Rio 2016 chronograph with colors of the Olympic Rings subtly incorporated. The alluring case shape is inspired by a watch first unveiled by the brand in 1969 that was used by rally drivers to time laps. The Bullhead Rio 2016 watch is powered by Omega’s Co-Axial Chronograph Caliber 3113, with a central seconds hand and a 30-minute recorder at 12:00. The Rio 2016 Olympic Game logo is engraved on the case back. Just 316 pieces will be made to honor the third time that golf ahs been included in the Olympic Games and to mark the year 2016.
