As technology moves us through our daily lives at lightning speed, humans are increasingly nostalgic, sensing the need for human touch. Vinyl record
and turntables sales boom, polaroid instamatic cameras sell to Gen Y, when their mobile phones have high tech cameras that store hundreds of
photos available for immediate sharing. Mid-Century modern furniture and handmade craftsmanship, evoking uncomplicated simplicity, dominates our
interiors blurring lines from office, hospitality and residential. World Woven™, the fifth global collection designed by David Oakey Designs for Interface
is inspired by handwoven fabrics from the 1950s and 60s from Scandinavia, the British Isles, Asia and the Americas.
The Tweed Run, a multicultural phenomena, began in 2009 and is now held in countries around the world. Cyclists with the spirit of Millennials dressed
in tweed ensembles, plaids, houndstooth and herringbone weaves, bicycle through cities from London, across Europe, throughout Asia, yes, Tokyo,
Shanghai, Beijing, Bangkok, along with Melbourne, Sydney, and throughout the United States; often on vintage or handcrafted bicycles, they stay
connected and share their experience via mobile phones.
The World Woven™ skinny planks create surfaces that appear minimal. Flat weave herringbone tweeds, dimensional dobby textures inspired by 50s
textiles, or subtle nubby plaids, all in an array of greyed neutrals allow the textures to thrive. The World Woven™ collection subtly creates a comfort
zone, a quiet monochrome foundation for any interior, again, blurring the lines between office, home or hotel.
Hand-weaving inspired by nature’s organic landscapes brings color to the World Woven™ collection. Saori weaving, practiced in over 40 countries,
embraces the imperfections in the natural world. Translation: SA- indicates your own personal style, and ORI is Japanese for weaving. Color is divulged
by weaving disorder with a balance of softly tinted colors found in nature. Again, British Isles hand woven textiles utilize crafted colors from nature’s
landscapes inspiring textural effects of dashing bouclé tweeds. A union of hues create chameleon colors that are lively, yet balanced for a modern, yet
calm biophilic ambiance.
For the first time available around the world, FLOR® by Interface modular tiles relate to the foundation created by World Woven™ skinny planks in
unexpected compatibility. Novelty houndstooth tweeds, bold plaids and retro modern geometrics allow for more playful signature spaces, perhaps a
more residential appeal, in spicy, autumnal hues.
The World Woven™ collection offers an unperplexed harmony of craft and tactile, tech and touch, celebrating life that is real, earthy and natural carrying
us along the path to our future.
