The Heck with Where’s Waldo
People are now asking, “Where’s Pete?”
by Krista Doran
This issue’s featured band started back
in 2000 as a four piece with a member
who was very, well, let’s say “elusive.”
He would come all the way from New
Jersey to rehearse at the bass player’s
home. Sometimes he would even stay the
entire weekend so that the band could
jam into the wee hours of the morning.
Then he would just leave, and the band
wouldn’t see him for months! His name
was “Pete”, and the band would joke that
the next formation of the band would be
called “Where’s Pete?”, and the name just
stuck. Today the band, now twice that
size, has has erupted onto the local music
scene as one of the newest, most bad ass
horn bands on the circuit.
I spoke to drummer and vocalist Miles
Adams who told me “I remember seeing
Johnny O & The Classic Dogs of Love
back in the day and being so impressed
with their song selection, tight musical
arrangements,confident stage show and
big sound & light production. That’s the
kind of cover band I want Where’s Pete
to be and the show we strive to put on.
Since we’re not writing the music, the
creativity comes from playing the songs
with clear arrangements and conviction.”
This band works very hard at putting on
a great show, but likes to have a lot of fun
doing so. Miles went on to tell me, “we
don’t take ourselves that seriously. We
try to add humor to the shows too…For
instance, we cover the History of a Hip
Medley that was originally done by Justin
Timberlake, Jimmy Falon, & The Roots. It’s
a killer medley, done chronologically by
year, that pays homage to all the most notable rappers and hip hop artists starting
with Kurtis Blow, Salt n Peppa and Black
Sheep, up through Fifty Cent, Lil Wayne
& Rick Ross and believe me, nothing is
funnier than seeing Nicky D trying to get
gansta doing Blowing Money Fast! It’s a
lot of fun to perform and people really
seem to get a kick out of it.”
When you go to see Where’s Pete,
you can expect to hear tunes from many
different genres. Miles explained, “We
feel all genres have something of value to
offer…While some bands stick to one
style, I’ve always loved
the bands that kill a Jay Z
tune and then transitions into a heavy metal
tune or a country tune,
and play it convincingly.
That’s one way in which
Where’s Pete is different
- no style is off limits…
the only requirement is
people have to be able
to groove to it!” The
versatility of this band is
something that definitely
sets them apart from
other horn bands. Just
about all of the members
of Where’s Pete have
fronted their own band at one time or
another. They are all strong, confident
players with backgrounds in theater, dance
and performance and it always makes for
a fun and unique show. Miles told me,
“Bands often take their cue from the
crowd. A hyped crowd makes a show feel
effortless, and the interplay between band
members magical. But, a subdued crowd
can sap a band’s energy or shake their
confidence because you feel nobody enjoys or is in to it. Where’s Pete strives to
make every performance feel like a show
at a packed Lincoln Financial Stadium! You
can expect high energy at all times, and
interaction with the crowd. Our singers
often head into the crowd with wireless
mics to make the audience members part
of the show. We have five strong vocalists, so there’s a ton of variety not just in
terms of genre, but in who is singing at
any one time. There are also plenty of
harmonies, choreography, seamless transitions and unpredictable tunes form genres
at far ends of the musical spectrum.”
You can catch Where’s Pete playing
at some awesome venues, such as The
SugarHouse Casino, PJ Whelihan’s, The
Temperance House, Havana, Molly Maguire’s, and many weddings and corporate
events. They also play for smaller rooms
and events as a duo or trio. Here are just
a few of their upcoming shows: 9/1 Holiday Inn Car Show, Ft. Washington PA;
9/7 - Magerk’s Patio Party, Ft. Washington,
PA; 9/15 - Club Zinc, Lansdale PA; 9-21 Davinci’s in Collegeville, PA and 9/28 - The
Temperance House in Newtown, PA. To
view their full schedule, please visit their
website at www.wherespeteband.com. To
book the band, send an email to [email protected].
So, to answer the question Where’s
Pete... well, let’s just say the legend of
Pete has grown. Some guess he’s a CIA
agent…Others swear he’s a survivalist living in the Smokey Mountains. Miles went
on to say “There are Pete sightings, and at
every show people ask “So Where Is Pete,
anyway”…and we tell them ‘we’re on a
musical quest to find him….let us know
if you do so we can stop playing!’ He
surfaced on our website message board
a few years ago, and that’s the last time
we heard from him. The band line up has
changed quite a bit over the years, but we
all share the same intense desire to find
Pete!”
Where’s Pete is Miles Adams- drums/
vocasl; Jack Connell-Trombone; Nick
Dirocco-keys/vocals; Jim Furlow- Sax; Joe
Caristo- guitar/vocals; David GainesTrumput; Darlene White- Lead vocals and
Howard Whitman-Bass. Go check out
Where’s Pete if you are looking to enjoy
your evening with friends and listen to
top end, concise and certainly fun music,
onstage antics and personality! See for
yourself why so many people are asking
the question, Where’s Pete!

welcome the new! You will be

you won’t have to wait much longer for the “unveiling” of the new
ROCK ROOM, the “soft opening”
will be the weekend of Sept. 7th
with Avoiding the Angel, Travia, and
Sinner Saints and then on Sept. 8th
with the band Full Circle. The big
Grand Opening is the weekend of
September 28th with The Hyde,
Hammerdown, Electric Boa and on

Cougars Crossing. There will be
tons of drink specials, give-a-ways,
free hor’devours from 8-10pm on

there early! The doors open at
8pm! Of course the Sports Bar
has been open throughout the
summer serving up some great
grub, showcasing lots of cool
acoustic acts, fun rounds of pool
and lots of great sports games on
their many flatscreen televisions.
Here is a little glimpse of what
you will find when the all new
ROCK room opens up... The decor
is all Music Memorabilia, walls are
purple and shades of gray, Groovy
lighting throughout, the entire
stage was re-vamped-once again
making its status of having the biggest stage, & the “baddest” house
sound & lighting in NE Philly. They
also extended the drum riser so
even a keyboard player or horn
section will fit! And for my fellow/
female ROCK & ROLLERS right
off the stage chill out in our very
own dressing room! Remember
them?! Right off to the side is the
black wall where all the performers will put their autograph- yes
JC’s Washington House is giving
musicians the star treatment!
In fact every one is a star to themcheck out some more cool stuff
they have lined up....There is a new
Martini Bar & Lounge with leather
sofas and tables; where you can
order up the best Martinis around
and sample shots of Washington
Apples, their Specialty Drink for

next private event there please call
(215) 671-9234 or visit their new

www.jcwashingtonhouse.com.
BTW...If you are wondering how
they got their new name; here is
the scoop. JC (the owner) first

the name of the establishment at
the time was “Washington House”.
Since that name was in existence
for about 300+ years, they decided
to go back to what worked back
then and for a bit good luck too! So
with that I, along with all the staff at
OOT wish JC’s Washington House
staff & owners luck as well! And for
those of you who waited patiently
for a cool place to hang out with
great entertainment, food, icy cold
drinks, dancing, and fun ... the wait
is over!

Back in Black; The BLoues Bros. Tribute Show
We’re Putting the Band Back Together. © Dr Lou 2012
Ten Years ago a couple of
fledgling wannabe musicians with
about a coffee cup’s worth of talent and buckets of energy and determination, decided to take their
own dreams of performing an
act they loved dearly to the stage
in a small marina in Burlington
NJ. This stage proceeded to the
Delaware river as it was affixed
to the bow of a small 21 foot Sea
Ray affectionately called “TEX”.
The act won 3rd place at the
annual Burlington NJ “Festival of
Lights”. This was 2002, and two
weeks later the act came to dry
land at the Gazebo at Curtin
Marina, the rest was history. The
path that followed the next two
years included gigs at many local
establishments some long gone
as is the case in a lot of the bar
industry, and some still there. The
act became a regular thing at festivals and private parties alike.
In 2004, the act was allowed to
play at the first official “Block Party” for Philadelphia’s new Arena
Football Team, the “Philadelphia
Soul” owned in part by rock
legend Jon Bon Jovi and appeared
at all games as sub-mascots under
Dr Lou’s Radio show and WNJC
1360 AM Philly. The boys opened
up the block party with “Soul
Man” as they did many times and
video of this act can be seen on
YouTube and at www.drloumusic.
com on the Internet.
Later that year the boys were
able to become the very first
act at the new “Chickie’s and
Pete’s” Packer Avenue location
and became a regular attraction
after some select Soul games.
They could be found with their
“entourage” hanging around the
VIP room after the games.
Additionally the boys
performed at the restaurant
adjacent to the first “Philadelphia Soul” summer party at Sea
Isle City NJ.
The group started to get a
great following and made
people happy wherever they
performed and for the boys the
dream was going along well. The
group played as a two man show
with back tracks doing the music
as well as with the live band; the
“Dr Lou InXperience” and the
“Time Riders” Band as well. The
group also appeared with the
famed “Paul Aaron” Elvis impersonator and the “Sarge Sinatra”
Frankie impersonator too.
The BLoues Bros 2002 consisted of “Mr Mike”, Mike Murray as
“Elwould” and Dr Lou as “Jayke”
(note the names are changed to
protect the guilty.
As things go, the business of life
came into play and economics as
well and in 2005 the band broke
up with Dr Lou going onto build
Dr Lou’s Place and the Privileged
Few band and Mr Mike going off
to another project known as
“Damaging Indifference”.
Fast Forward seven years and
we’re hearing a lot of asking about
the BLoues Bros. act and when,
if ever it would return to the
stage. Out of respect for the
old act, Dr Lou decided that there
needed to be more from the act
than originally was accomplished
in the past. If we’re going to do
it, it has to be more than just a
“Blues Brothers” tribute act, but
a show that includes more music
than just that. It has to have the
presence of the traditional Blues
Brothers, but add new “original”
songs they can do, plus add some
other songs that might have
been done by the Blues Brothers
if they took another route, thus
giving the BLoues Bros. 2012
an edge and a chance to reach
the ones that love the Blues
Brothers and add a live stage act
that adds other notable sounds
such as Johnny Cash and Bruce
Springsteen as well.
Well we’ve put the band back
together and we’ve run it out
of the barn and it’s gonna be
ready soon for a venue near
you. The BLoues Bros. 2012 is a
new concept in tributes as it will
have the traditional feel but the
boys will take on new levels of
entertainment with the addition
of the new “Elwood” character,
“Stellwood”, carried out by the
multi-talented Steve-O Burr of
the Union Band. Dr Lou returns
as “Jayke”.
The group nucleus will
consist of the Privileged Few
Band featuring Scotland”s John
Gibson “Scotty James” and
Burlington’s “Genius” Gene
Vizachero(original house band
from Philadelphia’s Palumbo’s”.
On the Drums will be Florence’s
own Blair “the Maestro” Craft
and additional guitar by Tony-O
Occipinty. On horn is Dave
Donaldson with more band
members to be named later.
This act will bring a smile to
the faces of the patrons as it has
in the past and will be available
for booking this fall. Booking can
be done by emailing; [email protected] or calling
609-496-1726. We’re hoping this
new tribute act will bring smiles
to as many faces as the original
act and we hope to see you at a
venue very soon.

Aries (March 21 – April
19) You could have some
very serious intentions,
but they tumble to the
wayside as you shake
your head in wonderment. Someone could
be delightfully distracting.
Taurus (April 20 –May
20) Dig into a project
knowing that you can get
it done. A partner demands unusual access
to you. He or she appears quite dependent
on you your feedback.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20) Open up your
imagination, knowing that anything is possible.Your ability to make inroads with someone you value could make all the difference.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22) knowing how
much you can actually accomplish might be
much different from saying “yes” and having
faith in your abilities. Everyone gets tired
sometimes. .
Leo (July 23 – August 22) Your creativity
could save the day.Your ability to get past an
issue could mark your interactions. Listen to
what is being shared by someone you care
about. Help this person lighten up.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22) you
might want to move slowly, especially if it
involves an investment or your finances. You
wonder which way to go and which is the
best choice. It is clear that there is more
information forthcoming.
Libra (September 23 – October 22) keeps
talking, and understands that sometimes
when you are too stern (as you have been
lately), others turn a deaf ear. Do you really
want that? Work on more open, nonjudgmental communication,
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21) is aware of what
you are spending and what you would like as
the end result.Your ability to move through
a money issue and tune in to your instincts

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) is
aware of what you are spending and what
you would like as the end result.Your ability
to move through a money issue and tune in
to your instincts counts. Trust yourself.
Sagittarius (Nov, 22-Dec. 21) Zero in on
your priorities as only you can. A meeting or
a group of friends proves to be most instrumental in a decision. Others share a variety
of impressions. Listen to them all; you’ll gain
a whole new view as a result
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) Take your time
before deciding which way to go when dealing with a problematic situation. In fact, if.You
are uncomfortable with the responsibility,
say so.
Aquarius (January 20 – Feburary 18) Zero
in on what works for you, and don’t do
anything halfway. If you are overly concerned
about someone and what is going on, express those worries.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) Take a stand,
knowing full well which way to go.Your

resolution tech out to consumers.
4K resolution is the term used in
digital cinematography to broadly
describe a resolution (pixel count)
of around 4000 pixels horizontally
on a display. This is similar to ‘Ultra
HD’, or ‘Quad Full High Definition’
(QFHD), which at 3840x2160, is
exactly four times today’s full HD
resolution of 1920x1080.
According to the report, the PS4’s
4K resolution support will span
both movies and games, the latter of
which would prove mightily impressive if true.
PS3 is capable of 1920x1080
resolution, but only a small number
of games manage to run at that
spec, so 3840x2160 or higher at 60
frames-per-second would be incredible (if a little hard to believe at this
point).
Despite rumours of a late 2013
release for at least one of Sony or
Microsoft’s next-gen consoles, Sony
has said it’s not prepared to reveal
its PlayStation 4 console until the
system can demonstrate ‘a significant
leap’ in technology.

The Art of Customer
Service ©Dr Lou 2012
What does it mean to
say; “you hurt my feelings”?
Moreover, why is this little
thing that a child might say
so important in the business
world and more specifically
in the restaurant and club
industry? Well that’s the
question that we’ll explore
in this article. Plus, this (as
most of us know) applies to
the entertainment industry
in general.
We talked about the
little things last time, but
this goes a bit further than
that, and it comes down to
the simple fact that people
come to our establishments
because they want to be
happy (for the most part).
There are the clowns with
the various social “disorders” that no matter where
they go issues ensue. But
we won’t give those folks
the chance to ruin our good
times again, just yet.
We mean that people
come to a bar or a restaurant on a strictly “volunteer” basis. Usually the
majorities of people have
other choices and choose
us because we offer them
the chance to feel good in
one way or another. We
attract them only because
they like our environment
or they have a “feeling”
when they come there that
is a positive experience for
them and they come back
looking for that “same” feeling again and again.
Therein lies the crux
of the question for today,
the “service” that comes
to the customer extends
farther than we really tend
to know and some owners
and managers seem to miss
that point so their base of
customers tends to slow
or at least doesn’t continue
to grow. This isn’t evident
very easily as you sit
in the office or ride in
the golf cart thinking
about the bottom line
and the money that
is or is not making its
way to your pocket.
But it’s very important
to the customers who
have the skill of telling
two people they had a
great time and a hundred and two people
they had a bad time at
your place.
So as we talk about the experiences we’ve had at different establishments there
was one that stood out to
me as a particular social
disorder and I’ll focus on
that for a minute. I call out
various social disorders that
I’ve encountered over time
in fortune 100 businesses
down to the one man shop.
My most famous is “look at
me” disorder, which is the
one that a lot of customers
tend to have where they
have to become the star of
the show by talking loud,
making odd gestures, saying
unacceptable things, etc.
But the one I’m bringing out
now is the “look past you”
disorder.
This one is very familiar
to the customers and its
prevalent in life because
bartenders, servers, managers, and owners use this
very often and I’ll say to all
of them; “we’re on to you”
and it makes us not like you,
hurts our feelings, and we
want to leave. This is the
little trick where a person
can look right past you to
someone else, speak directly
to them, and completely
ignore you. They’ll happily
talk to the people sitting
next to you and never ever
make EYE CONTACT with
you. It’s like you’re a hole in
the world and nobody’s in it.
“You, being nobody”.
I had this happen to me by
another club owner recently
in his place and for whatever reason, maybe I didn’t
address him enough during
a recent party, or whatever,
he acted like we weren’t
even there. Granted we
both are in the bar business
and we naturally fret when
our places are not full of
people, but that’s life. This
is a situation where this
owner greeted people to
the right and left of us with
a joyful manner and “boring
jokes”, but the customers
were happy to talk to him as
most people like face time
with the owners. We on
the other hand, even trying
to raise his attention just
to say hello, were “ignored”.
This made us unhappy to be
there and directly resent the
money we had just “voluntarily” given to him. We will
not return again. (but maybe
that was his message) It
worked.
So there is a moral to
that story, it comes down
to “honestly caring” about
what the customer’s feelings
are and we see that waning a bit in the restaurant
world today. We see people
stressed everywhere as
their bank accounts cry to
them and force them to rethink the idea of going out
for a good time. Our options are slimmer than ever
with a middle class that’s
getting squeezed by the bigger businesses and the large
shares of the money going
to fewer and fewer of us.
The idea of “Customer
Service” is an art form and
it has certain techniques
that make the difference
between a masterpiece and
a pre-school finger painting.
It’s all about the conscious
realization of the customer’s
feelings. It’s about not letting your own petty issues,
whether you’re having a bad
day or not, busy or not, or
whatever, give people the
feeling that they’re left out,
or that they’re not “important” enough for your
attention.
Unless it is that you don’t
want them there, that you
really are trying to weed
them out, that you don’t
want them in the place
showing you up with their
personality that might lessen
your own thunder or make
you less of the “star of the
show” yourself.
We’re just pointing out
the facts, it’s up to us where
we go, if you make us feel
good, we’ll come back, if no
one comes back, then it’s
time to pack… Tagadeez…

Music Awards 3
Earlier this year, in our Bands
to Watch section, we introduced
you to Right Turn at 40. We told
you how this six piece high energy
(Classic-Southern-Honky Tonk-BluesParty Rock) band, in their 7th year of
existence, was gaining popularity and
capturing new fans on both sides of
the river. Well the summer of 2012
has been a great one for Right Turn at
40 and we thought we’d do a follow
up story.
I recently caught up with Dave
DiProspero, GM and Lead Singer of
the band. We talked about year they
are having and Dave indicated that
it has the best summer ever and are
they are having an absolute blast,
playing the songs and artists they and
their fans love. Much of the summer has been festival show related.
This was kicked off in early May at
the Blue Cross Broad Street Run,
playing to the thousands of runners
and spectators at this huge event. A
Sunday in the vineyards of Sharrott
Winery opened the month of June.
This was followed by performances of
their “Tribute to Rock & Roll Show”
in Deptford, NJ and Washington Twp,
NJ. One festival show remains on
the schedule for New Hope, PA on
Sunday 9/30.
The band made a couple stops at
the Thursday Night Neighborhood
Music Series at Chickies and Petes on
the Blvd, as well as The Temperance
House, Otts on the Green, Carolina
Blue and a couple of private parties.
They also competed as a Finalist in
the 102.9 MGK House Band Competition and played to a full house at
the brand new Xfinity Entertainment
Center at the Wells Fargo Sports
Complex, in August. The summer finished with a huge bang as they played
for hundreds of bikers at the Hawg
Ridin Fool MC annual event on Labor
Day weekend.
I’ve heard these guys play several
times now and this band is tight. They
have found a focus and niche that has
served them well. With a strong and
solid core, including the Piano/Organ
of New Orleans native Garland Elliott
and newly added Sax player John Lay,
they hit the sweet spot. Al DiTullio’s guitar along with the Rhythm of
Bassist Paul DeMuro and Drummer
Johnny K, with vocals on top from
Dave DiProspero, Right Turn at 40 has
a distinctive and powerful sound.
They show no sign of slowing down
in the fall and winter and Dave tells
me that bookings are strong. They
will move from the outside, back
inside and can be seen at Otts on the
Green, Filomenas, The Stadium, Washington Crossing Inn, Flukes and Carolina Blue, to mention just a few. They
will cap the year off with a New Year’s
Eve show at the Historic Temperance
House in Newtown, PA. That sounds
like a party you want to attend.
Congratulations to these hard
working guys and we at Out on the
Town Entertainment wish them
continued success in the years ahead.
They play the music the way it should
be played and most importantly have
a Ton of Fun doing so. If you haven’t
seen them yet, be sure to check out
one of their fall/winter shows. It will
be a good night out for sure.

Dick.
Tick Tick Tick
Steve and his
wife are waiting
at the bus stop
with their nine
children. A blind man named
Norm joins them after a few
minutes. When the bus arrives, they find it overloaded
and only the wife and the
nine kids are able to fit onto
the bus, so the husband
and the blind man decide
to walk. After a short while,
Steve gets irritated by the
ticking of Norm’s stick as he
taps it on the sidewalk, and
he says to him, “Hey Norm,
Why don’t you put a piece
of rubber at the end of your
stick? That ticking sound is driving
me crazy.” The blind man replies,
“Why don’t you shut your pie hole
Steve ... If you had put a rubber at
the end of YOUR stick, we’d be riding the fricken bus!”
Dave’s Pickin Lemons
Unfortunately finding himself out
of work, Dave decided to take one
of the jobs that most Americans are
not willing to do.
He applied for a job in a Florida
lemon grove and of course he
was way too qualified for the job.
He had a liberal arts degree from
the University of Michigan and
had worked as a social worker, a
school teacher, and a parts manager.
Looking at his application, Rich the
foreman frowned and said, “I have
to ask you, have you had any actual
experience in picking lemons?”
“Well, as a matter of fact, I have,”
Dave replied “I’ve been divorced
three times, I’ve owned 2 Fords, and
I voted for Obama in 08!”
Mrs. Cooper Meets Stevie
Trying to get to know her new
students a little better, the teacher
Mrs. Cooper asked the class what
their fathers did for a living. When
she asked little Stevie Schemely
what his father did, Stevie said, “My
father’s dead, Mrs Cooper. “ “Oh,
I am sorry to hear that Stevie. In
that case, what did he do before
he died? “ Stevie replied, “He
went blue, held his chest, moaned
aaaaarrrrrrggg, and then collapsed. “
Finally ....
First off, I’d like to thank everyone
for their kind words, cards, and
emails that I, and the rest of the
Pennypack Music Festival received
over the passing of Ed Kelly. I still
can’t believe that he is gone and
it’s going to take me quite some
time to adjust to his not being
with us at the concerts anymore.
He absolutely loved the shows
and the people who came each
week and enjoyed all of the hard
work that he put into making it
all happen. None of it would have
been possible had it not been for
Ed Kelly. The man is a hero in my
eyes not only for what he did for
our neighborhood, but also for
keeping live music alive. He did
this not just by putting acts on the
big stage, but also through music
scholarships that are funneled into
local schools to continue music
education. I’m going to miss him
dearly and again, I Thank You from
the bottom of my heart for all
of your kind words thoughts and
prayers!
Speaking of Concerts, there’s
only 2 left! Wednesday Sept 5th (I
can’t believe I’m even saying September already ... Grrrrrr!!!) staring at 7:00 it’s our “Southern Rock
Night” featuring Jersey Bound
doing their tribute to ZZ Top
followed by Tuesdays Gone doing
their tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Anyone who knows me KNOWS
that I’m diggin this show! Apparently Tom from Scruples is comin
and he’s bringin some local talent
along with him - Right Tom?!?!
Haha!
And finally, on Sept 12th it’s
our “Season Finale” featuring
Simply the Best doing the best
Tina Turner tribute that you’ve
ever seen, especially with Aj Slick,
Stevie K, Mike Rubino, and Bobby
Michaels backing her up! The stage
is gonna be filled with talent!
So come on down! Bring your
family and friends, and lets enjoy
all that Ed did for us just a couple
of more times before we wrap it
all up for the winter.
(I can’t believe I just wrote the
word winter .... Grrrrrrrr!!!)
One more before I go - Microwave: (noun) A hand gesture used
by midgets to say hello. Keep
