Large full chords keep everyone busy and the repetitive nature of the piece challenges the ringer’s ability to keep a steady tempo. Celebration Number 5 in C Michael Keller Hope Publishing Company, 1993, HB1615 Part of a collection titled 5 Easy Celebrations written to be used by young ringers, the piece is written in a bold fanfare style. The pieces in this collection teach different rhythmic concepts and utilize a variety of handbell techniques. I’m Just a Poor Wayfaring Stranger American Spiritual, arr. Tammy Waldrop Hope Publishing Company, 2006, HB2343 This arrangement invokes the style of American Mountain and Bluegrass music. The choir has taken this piece written originally for handbells use and adapted various stopped techniques to fit the handchimes. A Grand Celebration Derek K. Hakes, The Lorenz Corp., 2008, AG35271 An original composition originally designed to be rung by handbells with optional handchimes, the Traut Chimes choir has again adapted various techniques to fit their own instrument. The piece included staccato and swing techniques and some fairly sophisticated syncopated rhythms. Bingo’s Travels Arr. James C. Smith Composers Music Company, 2007, CP7030 This piece written in Rondo form and is rung and shouted with enthusiasm by the ringers. This piece utilizes the familiar Bingo theme and includes visits to the “Erie Canal”, “The Streets of Laredo” and the “Camptown Races”. Handbell technique classes throughout the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions. She is currently the Northern Colorado Chairperson for the Colorado chapter of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers.
