LANGUAGE AND GOLDSMITH’S ART/
LANGUAGE AND SCULPTURE
The two-week basic course includes Italian language lessons in the morning (intensive course) + 3 weekly
lessons in the laboratory of master goldsmith Carlo Badii.
Students will be able to choose among 3 kinds of courses:
1)
ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSE + REPOUSSAGE AND CHASING COURSE:
BASIC COURSE: 2 weeks
Morning: Italian language intensive course from Monday to Friday
Afternoon: 3 repoussage and chasing lessons per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) of 3 hours each
(total hours: 18)
MINIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 1 student
COURSE START: every Monday
LANGUAGE LEVEL: from beginner to advanced
REPOUSSAGE AND CHASING
The repoussage is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is ornamented or shaped
by hammering or chiseling from the reverse side to create a design.
Repoussage and chasing are used in conjunction to refine a previously raised design on the front. A layer of
melted tar is poured on the back of the design and after it cools down it is applied on a support called
marble hemisphere.

ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSE + GOLDSMITHING COURSE ( WORKBENCH
TECHNIQUE)
BASIC COURSE: 2 weeks

hours: 18).

GOLDSMITHING:
The workbench technique allows you to realize objects of different shapes and styles and it can be used
after acquiring engraving, smoothing and welding skills.
Gold engraving practice with ornamental motifs on a sheet
Filing practice on thread
Spill made using the filing, engraving, welding and finishing techniques
Six- tile bracelet made using the filing, carving, welding and finishing techniques

ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSE + SCULPTURE COURSE

SCULPTURE
Students will work, along with Master Carlo Badii, on the fundamental sculpture techniques. They will start
with creating bas-reliefs of ornamental motifs and then move on to the realization of a full-relief sculpture.

Upon request longer courses of 3,6 or 9 months can be organized. The contents and objectives of these
courses will be agreed upon from time to time according to the students’ needs and their prior knowledge.
Master goldsmith Carlo Badii’ Curriculum Vitae
Since 1961 Carlo Badii has been making handmade jewellery starting from graphic design projects. For
every piece he chooses the most suitable techniques such as repoussage-chasing, engraving, wax
modelling, granulation, damascening, niello and enamelling of which he is a great expert.
He graduated from the Art Institute of Arezzo and the Margaritone Institute where he also thought
jewellery making for many years. He has taken part in many exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. Ever since
he left his profession as a public teacher he has continued teaching in his laboratory-workshop
