But before I tell you a story, I’d like to quote one of our greatest living storytellers, J.K. Rowling: “If you choose to use your status and influence to raise your voice on behalf of those who have no voice; if you choose to identify not only with the powerful, but with the powerless; if you retain the ability to imagine yourself into the lives of those who do not have your advantages, then it will not only be your proud families who celebrate your existence, but thousands and millions of peo- ple whose reality you have helped transform for the better. We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.” This quote came from a Harvard commencement speech delivered this year for the 2008 graduation, of which I was fortunate to attend. Ms. Rowling’s speech touched a deep place in my heart, and hopefully in the hearts of all those graduating that day. She was referring to several years in her life where she worked for Amnesty International, and how it completely changed her life. Although I do not claim to have had the same exposure to the horrors of human suffering that she did while there, I do know enough of what we, as the human family, have done to one another to further our petty causes, and the ones who suffer the most are those who often have the least say in the matter. When I first heard about HUB, it was like a dream come true for me. Having spent seven years of my life on a spiritual path, practicing satsang, service and meditation, I longed to find that connection again in a visceral form. In HUB, I saw an $110,000 Page 4 ▲ The Connection Magazine ▲ www.theConnect.com ▲ August 2008 organization that was focused on making a difference, potentially a huge difference, in the world; and choosing four main aspects to focus on in their early stages of development—food, water, education and micro-credit. When I joined on February 22, I was the 284th member of HUB. We now have well over 3000 members, and our numbers are growing every day. Perhaps, people from all walks of life are joining us because of what J.K. Rowling said at Harvard, “We have the power to imagine better”. Imagine a world where no child goes to sleep hungry, where no mother has to sell her children to survive, where all people have adequate, clean drinking water and anyone can feel secure in their ability to live their life with dignity and respect. Imagine that you personally can do something to further that goal, that you can help feed children, help them get an education, help their families by providing micro-loans. You have that ability right now, and one very powerful and productive way is to join Humanity Unites Brilliance. This is a simple process that can literally change your life, and possibly the lives of many thousands of people, through exponential giving. The old adage, it is better to give than receive, is only half true. It is actually better to give AND receive, and HUB allows you to do both. Please take a moment and go to this website: http://senseoftouch.hubhub.org where you will be able to see for yourself what HUB is all about Thank you for taking the time to read this, and welcome to the first day of the rest of your life. You can read and watch J.K. Rowling’s entire speech at: http://senseoftouch.hubhub.org/ http://harvardmagazine.com/go/jkro wling.html by Dean Baker here is a sharp difference between Barack Obama and John McCain on health care. • By far the most important domestic policy issue facing the next president will be fixing the health care system. The United States stands out among wealthy countries in not guaranteeing health insurance to its citizens. • Yet, even though many people cannot get access to care, we still pay more than twice as much per person as the average in other wealthy countries. And we have the worst outcomes. Only a severely over-medicated politician would claim we have the best health care system in the world. • As bad as the current system is, it keeps getting worse. The number of people who are uninsured year round is at 47 million and rising. The costs also keep rising. Companies are increasingly dropping insurance for their workers, or forcing workers to pick up a larger share of the bill. The explosion of health care costs is the basis for all the scare stories that budget hawks use to cut “entitlements.” Since half of the country’s health care costs are paid by the government, if we don’t fix the health care system, it will eventually destroy the economy—and also T lead to very scary budget deficits. • So, what do the candidates offer? Following in the Republican tradition of referring to health care plans by the first name of their principle backer, let’s see what the candidates propose: • John-Care is a plan to get rid of the employer-based insurance that most of us rely on presently. Senator McCain would eliminate the tax deductibility of employer-provided insurance, in effect requiring employers who offer insurance to take money out of workers’ paychecks for their tax liability on their health insurance. • Needless to say, this will make dealing with insurers even less attractive to businesses. Most employers will soon get out of the health insurance business and leave it to workers to buy their own plan. Toward this About Naturopathic Diagnosis — and How We Go About Finding the Clues for What Ails You by Dr. Ruth Bar-Shalom elena came to see me after noticing that a friend of many years looked radiant, had lost weight, had not complained in months about migraines or depression, and overall seemed happier since visiting our clinic. Helena needed to lose 20 pounds, had terrible skin breakouts and ever since menopause had struggled with depression. She wanted “to get some of the vitamins that had helped her friend regain her health.” I explained that before I could prescribe, we needed to diagnose. She had brought with her a copy of her last blood tests. Although some of the results showed abnormal numbers, those abnormalities did not explain her symptoms. Whenever we want to diagnose disease we look at conventional medical diagnosis. Common blood tests, for example, can help diagnose heart disease, anemia and auto-immune problems. However, very often conventional tests will not show an abnormality, yet the patient is suffering. Naturopathic physicians then turn to “functional diagnosis”. These tests help find imbalances in the body BEFORE there is a total breakdown. Some common examples of these tests are: • Mineral or vitamin levels—does H your body have the basic building blocks for normal function? • Testing the ability of the body to absorb nutrients or detoxify harmful substances. • Metabolic Typing—a test in which we find what proportions of nutrients are adequate for the individual (rather than trying to find a diet that is good for everybody else). • Levels of essential fatty acids (often key in chronic skin conditions). • Amino acids levels—important information when healing chronic injuries. • Heavy metals test—an often overlooked modern malady. High heavy metals need to be taken into consideration in chronic unexplained disease. • Neurotransmitters levels—for depression, anxiety or chronic fatigue. Without individualized functional diagnosis, we are left frustrated trying to find one solution for everybody. If one answer fit everyone, we would not be still searching for relief. People are all a bit different, and finding the unique way in which the body functions gives us the answers about the right type of treatment. As for Helena: she did get her vitamins. But they were not the same as what was prescribed for her friend. end, John-Care would give every worker a $2,500 tax credit, or $5,000 for a family. • This will not be sufficient to cover the cost of insurance for many families, especially those with serious health problems. Insurance companies don’t like to insure people in bad health. While John-Care does provide a modest pool (at $7 billion to $10 billion) to help people with health problems to get insurance, this is a tiny fraction of what would be needed. Essentially, the McCain plan would undermine the current employer-provided system, and leave millions of people with health problems unable to buy insurance. • By contrast, Barack-Care would build on the current system. It would create a publicly run Medicare-type plan that any employer or Dr. Ruth Bar-Shalom has practiced as a naturopathic physician for 21 years. She is the founder of the Holistic Medical Center in Santa Cruz. A graduate of the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, Dr. Ruth has been an associate professor of Rheumatology and Geriatrics at the South West College of Naturopathic Medicine and has presented multiple workshops at Bastyr University and at her alma mater. She served as president of the Alaska Naturopathic Physicians Associations from 1992-1994. Dr. Ruth’s practice is in the Live Oak area of Santa Cruz. For information please call (831) 475-6666, or visit the her web site: www.naturalmedicineUS.com. individual can buy into. This would provide an additional option for people unhappy with their current insurance. However, those who are pleased with their current insurance would be able to stay with their plan under BarackCare. • Barack-Care would also reform the private market, prohibiting insurers from charging more to people with health conditions, a rule that is already in place in several states. This would mean workers need not fear being unable to get insurance if they develop a serious illness and lose their job. • Barack-Care would also have subsidies for low and moderate income families to insure they can afford to buy insurance. These subsidies would be financed by a fee assessed on employers who don’t provide insurance. The basic story is that every employer (with a small business exemption) will have to contribute towards their workers’ health care. They can either buy insurance directly, or they can contribute to a general fund to pay for insurance. • So, those are the basic outlines of the two candidates’ health care plans. Senator Obama would build on the system that is already in place and offer people an additional option—buying into a Medicare-type public plan. By contrast, Senator McCain wants to get rid of the current system of employerprovided insurance and force everyone to buy insurance as individuals. • In terms of health care policy, this is by far the sharpest difference between presidential nominees the country has ever seen. Hopefully, people will be aware of these distinctions when they cast their votes in November. Dean baker is the co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research (cepr). Instead, use ice (leaving it on past the point of pain and into numbness—usually 20 minutes) up to once per hour or at least 2-3X per day. Ice is for acute injury where there is swelling or bruising. You can also use heat if there is severe pain with no noticeable swelling…. This is actually one of my “miracle” cures. Use ONLY for 5 minutes, then remove for 5 minutes, and repeat for 3 cycles total. Moist heat is best. Electric heating pads don’t cut it for this method. You can use a buckwheat pillow in the microwave (or heated in the oven covered in foil). You can make your own heatable pillow by putting rice in a pillow case. • Bruising Arnica is fantastic for bruises.Arnica is used in homeopathic dosage and sold in creams and ointments (apply minimum of 3X day is best), or in oral form if the bruising is great. Bioflavanoids (also called rutin) are the vitamin component for healing bruises. This is a part of the natural complex of vitamin C. Older people who get bruised discolorations can benefit by adding bioflavanoids into the diet. I only recommend non-synthetic or “whole-food” vitamins. • Sunburns Apply pure aloe vera gel 3X per day, and most burns will turn to a tan without peeling. Sylvia Skefich, D.C • Cramps and Spasms These are frequently from a deficiency of magnesium. Conversely, it can be from a deficiency of calcium (as the two minerals work together in a symbiotic ratio). If you are taking a calcium supplement already, try taking magnesium at a higher dosage. Most people need about a 2:1 ratio of magnesium to calcium, not the other way around. Cramping can also be from a lack of electrolytes. You can get electrolytes easily through vinegar. • Insomnia There are many causes for sleeplessness, but simple remedies may work. If the trouble is falling asleep, take a whole food-derived multivitamin and Min Tran (from Standard Process… short for Mineral Tranquilizer) before bed. If the problem is awakening and not being able to fall back asleep, the problem can be a blood sugar issue. Blood sugar is a complex issue that can often be fixed nutritionally, but a quick fix is to eat something sustaining before bed (like nuts), or, upon waking, have half a small apple. If you fall asleep quickly, it’s likely blood sugar is your problem. Sylvia Skefich is a Doctor of Chiropractic with a certification in nutrition. The functioning of the thyroid directly affects more bodily functions than all the other endocrine glands because it controls cellular metabolism by secreting hormones which govern the metabolic rate of most of our body’s vital functions. Imbalances of the thyroid can have serious effects on your health, so you should always seek advice from your doctor when dealing with any hormone problem. What thyroid problems can arise? The thyroid gland can become either under-active (Hypothyroid) or overactive (Hyperthyroid). The causes can be multi-factorial. In cases of Hypothyroid, the gland doesn’t produce enough (T3) triiodothyronine and (T4) thyroxine, the hormones necessary for healthy metabolism. Symptoms of low thyroid functioning can include constipation, dry skin, loss or thinning of hair, weight gain, fatigue, poor memory and low body temperature. Because there may be other imbalances creating these symptoms, the thyroid can often be overlooked. Hyperthyroid is much less common. Symptoms of an overactive thyroid include weight loss, sweating, a sense of anxiety, heart palpitations, high blood pressure and a bulging of the eyes. A third condition, in which the Thyroid gland becomes inflamed, is called Hashimoto’s disease and it is as an auto-immune disorder. The symptoms are those of an under-active thyroid and the cause seems to be genetic in nature. How are thyroid disorders diagnosed? Your doctor will diagnose Thyroid gland imbalances by taking a history of your symptoms as well as a blood test. Typically we measure TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in the brain which stimulates the thyroid to produce T4 and T3. It is important also to test the levels of free T3 and T4 and not just TSH, which is sometimes regarded as sufficient. Lab markers indicate that a TSH between .4 - 4.0 is normal. However, I’ve found most people whose TSH is below 2.0 often present with low thyroid symptoms and feel better on thyroid support. If Hashimoto’s is suspected, then antibodies levels are measured in the blood. Can Naturopathic Medicine effectively treat thyroid disorders? You bet. And with a high degree of success as well. The nature of our approach is in individualization of the diagnosis. In addition to directly treating the thyroid using non-toxic methods, a Naturopathic Doctor will also work to discover the underlying cause of the imbalanceacknowledging that the thyroid is impacted by the health of the body’s entire system. Another way of saying ‘treating the whole person.’ Another key element is ensuring that the body has all the minerals it needs for proper functioning. A Naturopathic approach will likely include dietary recommendations, specific nutritional supplements, glandulars, homeopathics and/or herbal medicines. And if needed, Naturopathic Doctors may occasionally write prescriptions for thyroid medications when appropriate. The outcome will be not only a balance Thyroid gland, but a higher level of overall health and well-being. Biles, D.D.S., M.A. s a layman, I could never have imagined in my wildest dreams that my years working in human performance, exercise physiology, and cardiopulmonary physiology would ever benefit me as a dentist, but they have and continue to do so. Indeed, my early journey through such apparently disconnected to dentistry disciplines, has been wonderful preparation for the latter years of my career. How so? The ability to interact with human beings at so many levels of health and fitness in so many different arenas has helped my perspective in interacting with those seeking help. Moreover, it has given me a framework for understanding how our mouths play such a major role in regulating our health. Teeth are important, but they are really only a small part of the game. Mainstream medicine and dentistry has already shown a link relating gum disease to stroke, heart attack, diabetes, pulmonary conditions, and other conditions—and that may only be the tip of the iceberg. I just returned from my fourth trip to Tacoma, Washington this year, achieving certification in Oral Systemic Balancing (OSB) therapy, a major breakthrough pioneered and developed by dentist Dr. Farrand Cory Robson. Once again, it was a life altering experience, and I am moved to continue going through another learning curve so I can master a technology that has demonstrated fantastic results… results so incredible that I find myself qualifying my statements every time I discuss OSB. Why? What makes OSB therapy so unbelievable is that many patients undergoing therapy have healed from other seemingly unrelated debilitating conditions, including: TMJ issues, headaches, head pressure, behind the eye pain, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular issues, snoring, and other sleep disorders. Moreover, Dr. Robson has even had success with Parkinsonism, multiple sclerosis, ALS, and other conditions I have yet to learn about. Incredible? Fantastic? Real or not? Quite frankly, I could not believe it either, which is why I had to travel to Tacoma to see and experience it for myself. As incredible as it may seem, what I am reporting to you is true. In my limited exposure with OSB over the past 6 months, I have truly seen remarkable recoveries and heard and read many grateful testimonials. Work is underway to continue to develop the therapy and train more dentists and their staffs to make this wonderful therapy available to more people. I will be part of that effort; I can’t not. Like my colleagues, I am moved by the suffering we see relieved with OSB A therapy— truly a gift from God. The key concepts? The body heals itself and… your tongue is a rudder that truly directs your life on so many levels. Where appropriate, OSB therapy alters tongue posture, and that change in posture results in many benefits—some immediate and others more long term as the body adapts to the improved ease of oxygenation and consequent enhanced immune system. Life changing, life enhancing. Simple in concept, years to develop. It works. Dr. Biles’ approach to dental issues is based on a holistic philosophy developed over years of training. He has practiced over 25 years and has fellowships from the Academy of General Dentistry and the Institute of Natural Dentistry. Services in his office include full mouth rehabilitation, cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery, and Oral Systemic Balancing. The Truth about Tantra? by Todd Jones, Yoga Journal “It’s never been easy to neatly define Tantra, because it encompasses such a huge, varied and sometimes contradictory range of beliefs and practices. But first and foremost, although it has produced many philosophical texts, Tantra is a collection of practical techniques for achieving liberation or enlightenment. The word “Tantra” itself comes from a Sanskrit root that means “to weave or extend.” Tantra’s practitioners have always seen this as a comprehensive system for extending knowledge and wisdom – for realizing that the whole world is a completely interwoven unity. Second, far more than most strands of Indian spirituality, Tantra accords great respect to women and to the female aspect of divinity. In the Hindu Tantric view, the world constantly arises from the erotic dance and union of the divine male (Shiva) and the divine female (Shakti), with Shiva providing the necessary seed but Shakti providing the active energy that brings everything into being. (Tantric Buddhism sees the male principle as the more active, but still emphasizes the importance of women and female energy far more than do other forms of Buddhism.) Thus, where the mainstream of Indian spirituality tends to regard the world as a trap and an illusion, and lean toward asceticism and a distrust of the body and the pleasures of the senses, Tantra insists that the world is a manifestation of divinity and that all experience is potentially holy. This fourth trait of Tantra is perhaps its crucial characteristic. Rather than regarding the everyday life of the body and its desires as a defilement to be purified and transcended, Tantra regards embodiment as the fortuitous and necessary vehicle for enlightenment. What people are saying about the ‘Tantra: The Art of Conscious Loving’ Seminars “The Tantra Workshop is the most significant opportunity available for people looking to bring together spirituality, sexuality and intimacy. Shortly after that my wife Gayle and I traveled to Tiburon, California to meet Jerry Jampolsky, Judith Skutch Whitson and Bill Thetford, all of whom became dear friends. A year later, Jerry introduced me to Beverly (Hutchinson) McNeff and I vividly recall her charisma filling the room. In the late 70’s, Gayle and I started a grief support group in Santa Fe, New Mexico, which soon morphed into The Dispensable Church, a legal religion based on the Course. It was an all-volunteer organization, and when we passed the plate, you could either put money in or take it out, depending on your need. Unfortunately, this practice spread to other churches in Santa Fe, and I began getting angry calls from other ministers. They also didn’t like the fact that we had the rule that a spiritual concept was never to be taught to a child in our Sunday school. Since kids, almost without exception, are better human beings than adults, we just wanted them to be kids. So we hired the best children’s entertainers we could find and made having fun the only goal. But many other churches thought they were having entirely too much fun and this was simply a ploy to steal parents from their congregations and turn them into Dispensapalians. Also during the late 70’s, Beverly was starting Miracle Distribution Center, which quickly established itself as the hub of Course activity. Because of Beverly’s unwavering devotion and deep integrity, the Center never got sidetracked by the many New Age movements that in one I way or another tried to use Truth to manipulate the world. She understood that we must seek God only for God and not to change worldly events to our liking or to enhance our personal health or prosperity. Even the products sold by the Center have always reflected her purity. I know of several instances when she could have generated considerably more income to the Center if she had compromised her principles. At times the pressure on her to do just that was almost overwhelming. I have always been in awe of the depth of her devotion and the clarity of her insight into the core teachings of the Course. There were occasionally deep divisions within the Course in Miracles organization itself and it is my belief that Beverly’s ability to forgive all concerned, soothe egos, and build bridges between factions kept damage to the Course movement to a minimum. So what does all of this have to do with you and me? In my opinion, Beverly is a radiant illustration of one way to enlightenment. By enlightenment I mean that state in which the light of God is more dominant within our mind than the daily grind. The body is not perfectible. Daily events are not controllable. Death and the conditions leading to death are inevitable. Yet it is possible for the tragedy of human life to fade in the presence of the peace of God. The world doesn’t work. An enlightened mind is one that focuses more on the sweet stillness of the Divine than on what we have not been getting, don’t have now, and must get next. Every time we are at peace, we are enlightened. Thus enlightenment is always in the present. How is this done? Simply by wanting God more than the world, by wanting God “with all thy heart,” as Jesus says in Matthew. While this principle is simple Give Change a Chance T he “O n e M i n u t e C han g e Model” by Karin Leonard ho, these days, has a lot of extra time to bring about changes in habits and lifestyle? It often is challenging enough to attend to “putting out the fires” and taking care of the priorities on the perpetual “to-do list.” Nevertheless, we may continue to bump into outdated patterns and behaviors that no longer work for us. However, as long as we continue to do the same things, we will end up with similar results. Change Can be Quick… …what often takes longer is getting ready to change, and fully implementing new patterns. We may think about changes for quite a while before they materialize. However, when we truly decide to improve something in our lives – be it quitting a habit long ago outgrown, or pursuing a cherished dream – then we are able to move mountains. Creating change is fundamentally a decision to shift what no longer works, combined with the tools to follow through, and the awareness at key moments to snap out of automatic pilot. The Power of Habits We are, to a great degree, crea- W tures of habit. Believe it or not, that is actually a good thing. Doing many things automatically actually has us being highly effective. Just think about driving, for example, or the many tasks you complete on a daily basis: it would be a drag to have to do each step deliberately … shift gears, step on the gas, etc. … our streets would be even more chaotic. So, habits are great, as long as you do those things automatically that you want to be doing. Overeating, smoking or blowing up at the people around us probably doesn’t fall into that category. … Give Choice a Chance Life is made up of single moments, one after another, and these points in time make up our existence. It is through the hundreds of choices we make in the moments of our day that culminate to shape our destiny. The past is gone, the future isn’t here yet – the gift of choice lies in the now – that’s why they call it the present (Deepak Chopra). The one-million-dollar questions are these: how do you want to choose in the crucial moments of your day? How will you remember Page 10 ▲ The Connection Magazine ▲ www.theConnect.com ▲ August 2008 and straightforward, it is surprisingly difficult to practice. First we have to look at our ego with brutal honesty. The core of anyone’s ego is not a pretty sight, but it will continue to assert itself until fully acknowledged. It’s like finally admitting (as I have had to do) that I am simply not a good driver, not a good dieter, and not a good manager of money. Having acknowledged these things, I am constantly vigilant when I drive; I weigh every day; and I defer to Gayle (a banker’s daughter) on all matters of money. The essential point is that I will never be a good driver, and so forth. Therefore vigilance in those areas is vital. Likewise—and far more important—my ego is also already formed, and it will never improve. My job is to be constantly alert to what it is up to NOW and “choose once again,” as A Course in Miracles states. Since, spiritually, we are still as God created us, there is really very little to do. God will do it all for us—if we refuse to choose against our divine attitude, if we are slow to judge and quick to forgive (which is a not doing, when you think of it), if we will be kind (which is much easier than being a jerk), and if we will be gentle with ourselves and our loved ones. This may just take a minute, but it is that crucial moment that decides our fate, time and time again. Through those choices we change, and we can create what we want as we tap our potential more fully. Having had the privilege to witness countless clients transform themselves and their lives, in a relatively short period of time, I am in awe of human nature, and what we are capable of accomplishing – once we decide to do so, and believe that we can. And it is my personal mission (and sincerest pleasure) to be in service of this marvelous process of human evolution. “Life was never meant to be a struggle, just a gentle progression from one point to another, much like walking through a valley on a sunny day.” — Stuart Wilde Karin H. The heart seeks a spiritual partner.” —The Shared Heart his particular quote, written 27 years ago in our first book, has been quoted more times than anything else we have written. How natural for our minds to try to avoid pain and find an easy relationship, when in truth our heart, the deeper place of wisdom within us, is seeking a true partner. When a relationship ends, it is vitally important to spend enough time alone, listening to our hearts, fully feeling all our feelings, and learning the lessons of the relationship. So much energy has most likely been spent in first trying to make the relationship work and then in the process of ending the relationship. The time when a relationship actually ends can seem without focus or purpose. The tendency with most people is to distract themselves, become depressed, be consumed with anger for the other person or anger at themselves. A big distraction is the internet matching services and all its promises of finding that “easy” partner. All too often people are back on the internet looking before the present relationship has even officially ended. The space immediately after ending a relationship can be a very valuable period in our lives. If a person distracts themselves or rushes into another relationship, the gifts and lessons of the previous relationship could be difficult to bring forth. Even hours spent “harmlessly” going over prospective relationship profiles on the internet can distract a person from the true work of learning from a past relationship. As long as a person is looking outward, he or she can not do the important work of looking inward. A friend of ours ended a relationship of four years in which a child had been born. He described his life as a giant jigsaw puzzle which had dropped to the ground. Some major pieces stayed together, others separated and went all over. He realized he could quickly gather the pieces, stuff them into a sack and, before the puzzle was whole, begin a new relationship. He saw how, once a new relationship had begun, he would be building a new puzzle without the other one being complete. He realized he needed to take time and bring the broken puzzle to wholeness and this completion would open the door for the new. The period between relationships is rich with lessons and growth. Focusing blame on either your partner or upon yourself will blind you to the divine lesson to be learned. Spend time in silence asking yourself why you were brought together with this person. What is the lesson to be learned? What were the gifts you T were able to give in the relationship? What further gifts would you like to give in your next relationship? What gifts did you receive? Then focus on gratitude for the time spent with this person. We feel that there is a destiny to each relationship. There is a divine hand helping to bring two people together. Sometimes a relationship is long term, sometimes short. But regardless of the length, all relationships come to teach us something important. Our book, Meant To Be, tells amazing true stories of finding love, renewing love, and love that survives even death. Some of those relationships are not long, but all of them are “meant to be,” for they bring life-changing lessons of love. The key to success in all relationships, long or short, is to be continually learning how to open our hearts. This past relationship was a gift from the universe given to both of you according to the highest wisdom of both of your needs. As you can feel your gratitude for the relationship, understanding and wisdom — and therefore peace — will come. In time your heart will truly open to the other person and you will feel the blessing of the relationship. The fact that the relationship did not last as long as you had hoped will cease to be important. The realization that you learned and grew and opened your heart will bless your entire life. If you are having trouble finding peace from a past relationship, seek professional help from someone who deeply understands the relationship process. It is vitally important for you to have a resolution within your heart, before you begin to seek a new relationship. (This will be an important component of our “Opening to your Life Partner” workshop this coming August.) If there is a strong desire in your heart for a healthy relationship, then know it is there for a reason, and you deserve that fulfilling love in your life. Taking this important time to do the work of the heart between relationships, can bring healing and openness for this new partner. Feel how much you already love this person, and that love becomes a magnet that will draw the person to you. Remember your mind is going to seek something easy, but your heart will seek a true spiritual partner where you will both grow in love, understanding, healing and respect. We hope you will make the choice to follow your heart. Here are a few opportunities to bring more love and growth into your life at the following events led by Barry and Joyce Vissell: Aug 1517—Opening to your Life Partner in Aptos, CA; Jul 13-18—Father-Son River Adventure in Northern California; Jul 20-25, 2008—Breitenbush Hot Springs Summer Renewal in Oregon (for all ages). Adriana Dominguez, Spiritual Practitioner For info call (831) 332-6918 • www.revadriana.com by Rev. Adriana henever I’m asked to write about a subject which I have been resisting within myself, the process has a way of becoming extremely elongated. Ever notice that in your own experience? Whenever we offer resistant energy towards something, how a simple task can take on enormous levels of complexity. The relationship between you and whatever it is you are engaged with, birthed in the midst of resistant energy will be one of…? Correct! Resistant energy. Well, obviously, our own energy being a significant part of the Law of Attraction makes it so. This is Creation 101, of which we are all aware. And, amazingly so, still continue to activate at regular intervals. As a result, I have come to the conclusion that we actually need a certain amount of stress in our lives in order to experience ourselves as Creator. There is a beautiful movie out entitled Wall-E. It lovingly depicts our possible future fate as humans being completely served by our own robotic creations. In the movie, since all our needs are met without us having to do anything, we become extremely lackadaisical and uncreative. Our muscles and bone mass begin to deteriorate, as do our minds. Without the basic stress that makes it necessary for us to “get up and get going” we become complacent, uncreative, unmotivated, and unimaginative. The trick is in balancing the energy of stress with the energy of positive creation. In all relationships, whether it be between you and another person, a desire, a task or situation… there is a dance which flows in between the two creative energies... a dance of energy between you as creator and that which you wish to draw forth as your experience. At first glance, this dance may not appear to be inclusive. But, trust me, in the overall context of the relationship, it is. There is only one of us and all parts must be allowed to participate in the experience of the whole. W Neale Donald Walsch said it best in Conversations With God when he wrote, “I do not demonstrate my love for you by not allowing you to demonstrate your love for me.” For those dancers out there, this movement of energy is similar to the Samba, where one partner advances towards the other while partner #2 retreats and then visaversa. Personally, I never understood the implications of that type of dance in my relationships, nor can I say I even agreed with the concept. More often than not, I refused to play. As a survivor of childhood abandonment, I strongly believed I “had to be present to win” in relationships. Which I still believe is so, however, I have learned that it simultaneously falls to me to allow reciprocation. This is the part where I get to demonstrate my love for me in relation to my love for you – no matter who or what you are. In my eagerness to show up to make things happen and/or keep things going, I realize I was not allowing others the opportunity to show up for me. I was not giving them the space they needed to feel their own desire to be present and available. I realize now, that my refusal to allow others the opportunity to activate the vibration of love within themselves by my “doing it all” was a disservice to the relationship as a whole. It further dawns on me that Source Energy participates in this relationship dance as well. Because this “dance” is a key component to the reciprocal nature of all relationships. In order to actively participate in that synergistic exchange of energy, Source cherishes the opportunity to call us forth, as well as to be called forth. I suddenly realized that I was not allowing myself to receive. My son, a Boy Scout, was taught that whenever you become lost in the woods, just stop. Stay where you are, set your intention on being found and let those who are looking for you find you. If you continue to Page 12 ▲ The Connection Magazine ▲ www.theConnect.com ▲ August 2008 move, you may be moving farther away from those seeking to find you. Similarly, if you conserve your energy by allowing Source to find you, right where you are… offering your prayer of hope and appreciation, you will not dissipate your energy into frustration or fear. Instead, your vibration of self-love will serve as a beacon to Universal Energy which, I am told, feels good to be summoned. So, here’s an exercise for you. As you go throughout your day, moving in and out of segments – just observe. Focus the power of your observation on that which raises your vibration. A beautiful flower here, a smiling baby there, the breeze on your face, the kind gesture of a stranger, your beast with loving tail waging, etc. As you do so, consciously offer appreciation for this opportunity to feel good. Then stop. Stop and wait… yes, wait! Stand in the gap between thoughts for a moment. This will allow Universal Energy to register and receive your vibration of appreciation. In that moment of stillness, you will feel a flood of matching energy of loving appreciation coming right back towards you. In that moment, you will have consciously activated a reciprocal matching of energy. This positive flow of energy from Source acts as “gas in your tank”… and it’s free! It is the truth, it feels good and it speaks volumes to your Soul about your belief in the sacredness of your life’s experience. Source has said to me on numerous occasions, “All I ever require is your availability.” In these moments, which I believe are sacred offerings to Universal Source of your availability, you have activated your intention for happenstance of a higher vibratory experience. And, in this beautiful act of allowing reciprocation, you have given Source Energy the gift of the opportunity to match it. These moments of active creation will (super) naturally take you to places beyond your imagining, as you leapfrog into connection with the Power which creates worlds and which adores you. The first thing participants learn is how remarkable they really are. We accomplish this by giving them scientific knowledge about what the brain does, how DNA and consciousness work together, and everyone’s power for manifestation. On the first night, students learn to do sending and receiving, transmitting information between one another by thought. Everyone who comes will do it well; and that is on the first night! The next day the students are taught about the Observer from quantum physics, and understand that it is this Observer within that collapses energy into particles and on into reality through thought! We show them how to take these principles to manifest something tangible, and as this occurs the student begins to see the relationship between their state of mind and what occurs in their reality. They begin to know that the Observer from quantum physics is “the kingdom of heaven within you” and that “God” is the Observer from quantum physics. This in reality is who and what we are. All of the disciplines of the school: how to do a remote-view, how to Create Your Day, and how to deliberately shape your future with Time Tiles: are designed to demonstrate the connection between what happens in your thoughts and what happens in your life. With this knowledge and direct experience, the student learns how to shape their future, how to make every day a wonderful day. The students also will learn what their past is, how the biochemicals of the past are lodged in our cells and neurons, and how we unconsciously throw our past forward to become our future. Do we really owe the rest of our life to our past? No one ever told us that our lives would be locked into a neurological and genetic code of our earlier years of experience that led to a chemical signature tracked by the brain and fulfilled in DNA. And that this unconscious repetition of chemical habit becomes progressively addictive, it wears W Ramtha out our DNA and our cells so that we age; we get old; we lose confidence. Ramtha says you can find philosophers anywhere, you can find preachers anywhere, you can listen to science until you are blue in the face, but knowledge alone will not take you beyond the patterned chemical responses of your past. What makes Ramtha’s school so special is that after learning the knowledge, every student applies the teachings in reality through our field work exercises. We take the knowledge, then we apply it in reality. In field work, the students master their habits of the past in order to take the normally quiet power of pure focused unemotional observation to manifest the knowledge through direct experience. Only then can you say, “I have done this. This is a truth.” And once you have seen the connection between your quality of focused observation and the reality it creates, you will never forget it. When you become a part of Ramtha’s school, you don’t have to move on campus and go to classes every day. The school starts with a four-day Beginning Retreat. That is your first class. Your second class is an eight-day Retreat that you may attend wherever they are offered around the world. Once you complete these two classes, to stay current you only have to attend two retreats a year, for a total of about fourteen days. You can complete these events in Yelm, or any other country where they are held. You will have the opportunity to attend huge events where students from all over the world will join you. We are a school because the knowledge is progressive, and the classes and students are constantly evolving. Once you get to a certain level and you have mastered one thing, then you are ready for the next level of knowledge. People are always learning more. After thirty years of channeling Ramtha, I do not know his complete mind! So you can see how there is always more to learn and that this knowledge is progressive. God bless your life and, remember, you are wonderful. Let’s get onto creating the future! When an individual’s kundalini energy is dormant, Shri Anandi Ma says, spiritual evolution is not possible. “This inner force needs to be activated through whatever techniques, whatever belief systems. The simplest and most direct way to activate the kundalini is through shaktipat.” Shaktipat is the direct transmission of universal energy from an adept to a student. As a master of Kundalini Maha Yoga, Shri Anandi Ma has performed shaktipat on several thousand persons, imparting to each the energy that awakens and activates their individual kundalini. Once the individual kundalini is activated, it begins its journey to the crown of the head. Along the way, the energy affects every aspect of the person’s life—physical, mental, and emotional—always with the ultimate goal of enlightenment or Self-realization. What, then, is the role of meditation in this process? Shri Anandi Ma explains, “Once the kundalini is awakened, all the person needs to do is practice, to meditate regularly.” Time spent in meditation each day encourages the active kundalini to continue its rise within the student. In this sense, meditation is a way of carefully adding fuel to an already burning fire. Assisted by the process of meditation, the individual kundalini continues to move toward its eventual union with the universal kundalini, where the oneness of self and divine energy is realized. Meditation also brings about the day-to-day benefits noted by proponents of stress reduction, such as enhanced physical strength, a clearer mind, better immunity, and even spontaneous healing. But most of all, meditation brings inner peace and balance. These are the most important factors for happiness while we are still in the physical body. Beyond even these, however, is the ultimate goal of knowing the Self to be no different from that energy which cre- ▲ by Shaye Moore n the modern stress-reduction toolbox, meditation has taken a central place. From the Mayo Clinic to classes in how to meditate in minutes, professionals are touting meditation’s ability to relax the body, clear the mind, increase vitality, and even decrease the stress-related effects of chronic conditions such as heart disease, arthritis, and depression. But can the benefits of meditation go beyond wellness of body and mind? According to a master of an ancient yoga tradition that has a Northern California presence, the answer is a definite yes. Shri Anandi Ma is the spiritual leader of Dhyanyoga Centers, Inc., an Antioch-based non-profit group that provides beginning and advanced instruction in Kundalini Maha Yoga. As the heir of a lineage of yoga masters extending back thousands of years, her perspective on what meditation is and why we practice it goes well beyond the goals of stress management. According to Shri Anandi Ma, the practice of meditation can lead to fulfillment of “the most important goal of life, Self-realization.” Since the beginning of creation, she says, “the search for eternal and complete bliss has been a constant for human beings.” As a result, over the centuries many different paths and techniques have been discovered that can lead serious practitioners to experience their oneness with divine energy. Formerly kept hidden for several thousand years, the path of Kundalini Maha Yoga is the path Shri Anandi Ma teaches, and meditation is one of the most important techniques used on this path. The term “kundalini” broadly refers to the infinite, universal energy that existed before creation, that brought all of creation into being, and that will continue to exist after everything created disappears. On a personal level, kundalini also refers to the manifestation of this universal energy in every human being. Yogis have often described the personal aspect of kundalini as God’s energy, visualized as a coiled snake at the base of the spine. When it is fully active, We are the scent of the earths’ bouquet. We come to beckon the senses to awaken and spin the bliss of nectar filled days. May all life flourish with the conscious nurturing of the earth. As a flower comes into bloom, may we, too, potentialize the flowering of all of our gifts, lest any pollen of inspiration be leaked from the vital center, and the benefits of creativity that are abundantly promised be lost. The ancient truth we are all learning is how precious are our endowments, ated the cosmos. Meditation is key to this knowing because “the inner experience first has to be had with and from the energy within,” Shri Anandi Ma states. “Kundalini Maha Shri Anandi Ma Yoga is a universal science of spiritual growth, and the most important thing is the direct, personal, inner experience.” For this reason, Shri Anandi Ma offers public programs and meditations, shaktipat, and intensive retreats teaching the techniques of Kundalini Maha Yoga throughout the United States, Europe, and India. In addition, Dhyanyoga Centers has opened a center in Northern California based in Antioch located in the East Bay. As Shri Anandi Ma always says, “Come, sit, meditate, and experience for yourself”. In reality, nothing has to be said, because everything only needs to be experienced. Shri Anandi Ma will be giving two public meditation programs in Soquel at: Inner Light Ministries, 5630 Soquel Dr., Soquel on Wednesday and Thursday, September 3 and 4. There will also be two public meditation programs in Palo Alto on Friday and Saturday, September 5 and 6 at the Unity Church, 3391 Middlefield Rd., in Palo Alto. The synchronicity of this Divine Plan is wondrous to behold. Lightworkers all over the world have been weaving their unique gifts and their service to the Light into this vitally important facet of God’s Plan. This is something we have all been working toward for lifetimes. At last, the moment has arrived, and we are now experiencing the final steps of preparation. I would like to share with you a small fraction of the Light Work that is paving the way for the anchoring of the archetypes of Eternal Peace and God’s Infinite Abundance, which will take place August 16-21, 2008. This will be a global event involving the conscious participation of Lightworkers around the world, and the I AM Presence of every man, woman and child on the planet. This is a multifaceted and multidimensional Divine Plan. Everything that is happening on Earth at this moment is interrelated, interconnected and interdependent. The Presidential elections in the United States of America are a critical part of this plan. The Beings of Light in the Realms of Illumined Truth have stated that because of the things that are destined to occur on Earth during the next eight years, these elections are the most important we have ever experienced. On May 18, 2008, the day before the very powerful Wesak Blue Moon, we gave one of our free seminars in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Philadelphia is known as the City of Brotherly Love. This is a powerful focus for government in the United States of America. It is where our sacred documents were cocreated and signed. These documents include the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States of America. These Divinely Inspired documents contain the Immaculate Concept of what this country will one day outpicture. Unfortunately, because of Humanity’s fear-based human egos and our blatant abuse of power for over two centuries, the Truth contained in these documents has been distorted, suppressed and cloaked in darkness. During the free seminar, the Beings of Light who are associated with Divine Government joined forces with the Lightworkers gathered in Philadelphia. A powerful activity of Light was orchestrated through the unified efforts of Heaven and Earth, and the cloak of darkness that has suppressed our sacred documents was shattered and transmuted into Light. Now, the patterns of perfection for the government of the United States of America are pulsating in, through and around the physical, etheric, mental and emotional strata of Earth. These patterns are filtering into the consciousness of every person who is, or ever will be, involved with the governments of this nation. The Immaculate Concept for Divine Government—a government OF the I AM Presence, BY the I AM Presence, FOR the I AM Presence of Humanity—will now be available to positively influence the next President of the United States of America and all those who will be elected into office. Our responsibility as Lightworkers is to continually invoke the Divine Plan and the highest good for all concerned regarding these elections. It is important that we also ask that this force field of protection be expanded to envelop everyone associated with the manifestation of Divine Government in every country in the world. Another very powerful step of preparation took place during the Universal Lightworkers Conference. This annual gathering of Lightworkers was held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, June 13-15, 2008. Due to myriad activities of Light that have been cocreated by the Company of Heaven and embodied Lightworkers over the past few decades, our Mother God has returned to Earth. Her momentum of Transfiguring Divine Love is now integrating into every Heart Flame. This has brought into balance the Blue Flame of Divine Power associated with our Father God and the Pink Flame of Divine Love associated with our Mother God. When these two aspects of our Father-Mother God are balanced, they manifest as the infinite power of the 5thDimensional Violet Flame. These energies are now flowing through Florida, which is part of the largest portal for the Violet Flame on the planet. During this gathering of Lightworkers, the Company of Heaven asked if we would be willing to serve as surrogates on behalf of all Humanity. The Divine Intent was for us to be the Open Door for a frequency of the Violet Flame that would transmute the obsolete archetypes of Humanity’s abuse of our masculine power. This abuse of power resulted after the fall when we closed our Heart Chakras, and our Mother God, the Holy Spirit, was forced to withdraw from the Earth. Humanity’s abuse of power and the lack of reverence for Life are the bases for all of the maladies existing on Earth at this time. These obsolete archetypes of imperfection had to be cleared and transmuted into Light in order for the archetypes for the New Earth to be anchored in the physical plane. This was a global activity, and the I AM Presence of every man, woman and child on Earth joined in consciousness with the Lightworkers in Fort Lauderdale. Several outer-world events occurred during that weekend that helped turn the focus of Humanity’s attention to the Father and the positive aspects of the Divine Masculine. Most importantly, Sunday, June 15th, was Father’s Day. This day honoring Fathers is celebrated in many countries around the world. During that important weekend, hundreds of millions of people focused their attention on Fatherhood and the positive qualities of the Divine Masculine. On Friday the 13th, one of our beloved news announcers died unexpectedly of a massive heart attack. The shock of that event held the focus of the media for the entire weekend. Tim Russert was a good man and a devoted son and father. On Father’s Day last year, he released a book that he had written about his own father. On Father’s Day weekend this year, all of the news reports focused on the positive relationship Tim had with his father and his own son. For several days, this gentle man was revered and honored in all aspects of the media. During his memorial service at the JFK Center in Washington, DC, the song “Over the Rainbow” was played. As people left the center after the service, a huge double rainbow appeared in the sky. Another beloved man was honored that same weekend. It was Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday. There were celebrations and news reports throughout the weekend that reflected what this humble man has done to restore freedom, dignity and healing to people in Africa and around the world. He is a wonderful example of the positive use of masculine power, which must now be restored within every person on Earth. During this same weekend, a tremendous purging took place in many parts of the world. In the United States of America, we experienced recordbreaking floods and wildfires. Mercifully, even though the loss of property was tremendous, there was relatively little loss of life. What often appear to be random weather conditions and coincidental Earth changes are actually Mother Earth’s way of cleansing the human miscreations and the pollution Humanity has inflicted upon her over the years. The Beings of Light said the unified efforts of the Lightworkers at the Universal Lightworkers Conference were God Victorious. The obsolete archetypes of Humanity’s abuse of our masculine power, which have been adversely affecting us since our fall from Grace aeons ago, were shattered and transmuted into Light. This victory cleared the way for the next phase of the Divine Plan. The next major step of preparation occurred during the Summer Solstice, June 20-21, 2008. Because of cosmic harmonics, celestial alignments and cycles within cycles the Company of Heaven said this was one of the most powerful Solstices the Earth has ever experienced. Lightworkers all over the world responded to their heart’s call and organized various activities that added to the Light of the world in myriad ways. The powerful collective effort of these events opened an interdimensional doorway that allowed the Earth to ascend further up the Spiral of Evolution. The Earth and all her Life are now vibrating at a frequency that will accelerate the expansion of the archetypes of Eternal Peace and God’s Abundance once they are anchored in the physical world of form. The next step of preparation involved the influx of Light that occurred on the planet through the celebration of the 4th of July in the USA. This is a day during which the patterns of perfection destined for this country are empowered through the hearts and minds of all Americans. Liberty, Justice, Freedom and Victory in the Light are the keynotes for this celebration. The influx of these Divine Qualities enhanced the preparation for the events in August. On July 7th, another very powerful activity of Light was set in place through the Divine Intervention of the mighty Elohim—the Builders of Form. Working with Lightworkers embodied on Earth, these august Beings projected their luminous Presence into the Sun of Even Pressure, which pulsates in the center of the Earth. This blazing Sun in the center of the Earth embraces the Immortal Victorious Threefold Flame in the heart of Mother Earth. From within the heart of Mother Earth, the Elohim magnetized the most intensified frequencies of the Twelve Solar Aspects of Deity that Humanity and the Earth were capable of receiving. These Page 16 ▲ The Connection Magazine ▲ www.theConnect.com ▲ August 2008 Twelve 5thDimensional Solar Rays of Light were anchored within each of the Twelve Solar Chakras that pulsate along the axis of the Earth. Once the highest frequencies of the Twelve Solar Aspects of Deity that the Earth has ever experienced were secured within each of Earth’s Twelve Solar Chakras, the mighty Elohim breathed that powerful Light into all of the vulnerable areas in the body of Mother Earth. The Elohim projected this monumental influx of Light into all of the faults, cracks, fissures and tectonics plates in the body of Mother Earth. Once these weakened areas were strengthened and secured, the Elohim expanded the Light into all of the areas where nuclear testing, mining, drilling for oil and every other invasive practice has wounded the body of this precious planet. The Divine Intent of this intervention from the Elohim is to secure the Earth and prepare this planet and all her Life to be able to assimilate and sustain the patterns of perfection for the New Earth that will be anchored in the physical plane in August. In the next few weeks, there will be a few more very powerful steps to complete the preparations. On August 1st, there will be a unique Solar Eclipse. Spiritual astrologers are indicating that this celestial event will open a window of opportunity during which the I AM Presence of every person on Earth will be able to enlighten the outer mind and empower the Divine Potential encoded within our RNA and DNA structures. We are being told by the Company of Heaven that this event will greatly enhance Humanity’s awakening process. The effects of the Solar Eclipse will build in momentum for eight days until the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympic Games, which will take place in China, August 8, 2008—0808-08. Eight is the number that models the Divine Fiat, “As above, so below.” The Olympic Games are always a very powerful time for the planet. They symbolically represent the Family of Humanity setting aside our differences as we come together, in Peace, to strive toward our highest level of excellence. For 17 days, it is estimated that approximately five billion people will, in one way or another, turn their attention to this global event. This will create a colossal Cup of Humanity’s consciousness through which the Light of God will flow to assist all Life evolving on Earth. During this unprecedented Cosmic Moment, the Olympic Games will be more significant than ever before. It is not by chance that these Olympic Games are being held in China. At the moment, China is outpicturing the full spectrum of what is right and what is wrong with Humanity. It is serving as the microcosm of the macrocosm for this planet, and, as China is healed and lifted up, all Life with be lifted up with her. Pulsating in the Etheric Realms above China are the Etheric Temples of Beloved Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Divine Family Life. This selfless Ascended Being of Light is an exponent of our Mother God. She represents all of the Divine Qualities of the Feminine Aspects of Deity. Blazing on the altar of Kuan Yin’s Etheric Temple is the Violet Flame of Mercy and Compassion. This is the Sacred Fire that will bathe the Earth and all of her Life during the Olympic Games. Kuan Yin has said this unparalleled purging by the Violet Flame of Mercy and Compassion will be the final step of preparation necessary for the anchoring of the very first archetypes for the New Earth. The influx of Divine Light that will be initiated at the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympic Games will build in power and might for eight days. This will bring us to the apex of the Olympic Games on August 16th.On August 16, 2008, the Earth will be bathed in the Light of the most powerful Lunar Eclipse we have ever known. This will occur because, after all of the steps of preparation we have been through this year, Humanity will be vibrating at a frequency of energy, vibration and consciousness beyond anything we have experienced since our fall from Grace aeons ago. We will now be able to access celestial energies that have previously been far above our reach. On the evening of August 16, 2008, at 7:30pm, Mountain Daylight Time, we will begin the Opening Ceremonies for the 22nd Annual World Congress on Illumination. This will begin the initial impulse of the process of anchoring the very first archetypes for the New Earth. This event will take place at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, which is held within the embrace of Archangel Michael’s Focus of Power and Protection. These Etheric Temples pulsate above the beautiful Lake Louise and the surrounding mountains in Alberta, Canada. Throughout the week, we will be guided by the Company of Heaven, and the Divine Plan will unfold day by day. The Light will increase with every breath we take, until the first archetypes for the New Earth are fully anchored. That event of the 22nd Annual World Congress on Illumination will be God Victoriously accomplished during the Closing Ceremonies between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time on August 21, 2008. We will work in the Eternal Moment of Now, so no matter when you can join with us in consciousness, your I AM Presence will weave your magnificent Light into the Cup of our collective consciousness. Know that we are ALL One. We will all be in our right and perfect place for this wondrous global activity of Light. During the week of August 16-21, ask your I AM Presence for guidance, and you will know exactly how you can best support this facet of the Divine Plan. If your heart is calling you to be physically present at the event in Lake Louise, there are still a few rooms available. Rep. Farr deserves praise for getting the US Dept. of Agriculture to let the CDFA drop its aerial spray plans in urban areas, and he is already raising the reclassification issue with them, but I’m sure he’d appreciate more thanks and encouragement. We also need to contact Senators Boxer, Feinstein, and Pelosi and urge their support as well. by Theodora Kerry While citizen efforts to challenge the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s lbam eradication plans for the Central Coast and the Bay Area have slowed due to the CDFA’s recent decision to stop the aerial spraying of populated areas, there is still an urgent need for us to stay active: ■ The CDFA still intends to aerial spray “forested” and “agricultural” areas yet has given no specific definition of these terms. If you live in such areas, consider yourself still at risk! ■ Farmers and growers are still being quarantined and required to use organophosphate pesticides, which also kill the natural predators of the lbam. ■ The CDFA will still use ground treatments which include equally toxic ingredients such as permethrin, known to be highly poisonous to children, pets, bees, and other pollinators, and has threatened to get blanket “general warrants” to allow them to enter and spray the private property of those who object to this toxic trespass by the State. ■ At least 100 million of our tax dollars have been wasted so far, with another 100 million dollars per year projected for the next five years, on a plan to eradicate moths that experts say have been here for over fifty years and have yet to do any documented damage to our farms and gardens. Fortunately, here are some opportunities to make a difference from the comfort of your own home. ▲ Awaken Page 18 safe. From behind your mask, the world appears dark and unsafe, and you are unwilling to remove your mask, fearing that something of this darkness might be discovered in you. You want freedom, yet in moving towards it, you fear you might be overtaken by the painful memories you carry within. How then are you to find peace? There is a plan and it is perfect. When you intend love as your only goal, truth appears as a reflection on your screen of life. This spark of light becomes the guide that leads you through the madness you have made for yourself back to the essential love that you have always been. In a ray of glorious light you become conscious of love’s vibration flowing through your being and you know that this is who you are - body, Stay Informed/Support the Movement Support AB977 AB977, introduced by Assemblywoman Fiona Ma (SF), would allow local governments to reclaim control of pesticide use within their borders, including setting stricter pesticide regulation standards than those of the State. Many cities and counties that fought the aerial spraying would have loved to “stop the spray” by simply legislating against it but were unable to because local control had been pre-empted by State legislators in the early ‘90’s at the behest of pesticide manufacturers. This bill, which passed handily in the State Assembly (58-20), will help local communities challenge both the current CDFA lbam program as well as any future misguided attempts by the CDFA to solve agricultural problems mind, spirit, and infinity as one. When you first come face to face with your unmasked self you are frightened and relieved at once. You may strike out then run, hoping that your cry for help has been heard. As you flee back into the familiar darkness, you find you are being followed. Do not be afraid; for you are being pursued by the light of your own holy Self, coming to set you free. Your spirit appears so far removed from the concepts of space and time that you wonder how you can get there from this dimension. It is when you join the world that appears outside yourself with the world within, that you know you were never separate. In joy and awe, you may look to quantify your experience that you never lose it again. Because absolute peace exists in the perfect instant, it can neither be quantified nor can it be held to. It is in your attempt to hold to the moment that you lose your commun- by spraying pesticides on people. AB977 is now being heard by various State Senate committees, and will hopefully be considered by the full Senate soon, so please urge your State Senator to support this bill ASAP! You can find contact info for your senator in the Government Pages of your phone book. Look under “ California State of”, then look for “Senate”. If more than one name appears, call them all!!! One last request: please consider making a financial donation to any or all of these websites as they’re the ones who’ve volunteered 24/7 to build this movement to the point where we were strong enough to stop the spray. They are heroes and deserve our support! Reclassify LBAM Want to see the whole CDFA LBAM Eradication Program go away and millions of our tax dollars saved? ion with it. To live in peace is to make each instant of the present the whole of your reality. As an unmasked being, all that you so dearly hid is revealed, for in the presence of light there are no shadows cast to hide behind, no one to attack, and nothing to defend. Now you are willing, and gladly so, to remove the veil that held away the love that was always your own. Now, you look upon the world anew, and you see it filled with beings calling out to you, from behind their masks, to be the guiding light for them to follow. The greatest gift to yourself, and the world, is to live in the freedom of the present, receiving what comes directly from your heart with no masks to block the light. Valley Tae Kwon Do The Avenues of Force and Direction by Scott Ripke I N CHINESE MARTIAL ARTS there are two principles of direction and two principles of force that need to be developed in order to establish a foundation for future practice. Without these a practitioner has no real future in tradition Kung Fu. There are multiple kinds of force in martial practice but without these four there is nothing to build on. The first pair of the four are Kai / He (open/close), which are the principles of direction. The second pair Chen / Zhang (sink/expand) are descriptions of particular energies. As with all traditional practice these principles of force and energy are directly related to how we interact with our environment both internally and externally. KAI (OPEN) — This means to open a particular thing. We can open a door for example. In martial arts we are opening a space in the body. The areas of the body, which this involves, are the back (upper and lower), midsection, chest, hips, spine and joints of the skeletal structure. There are many kinds of energy, which can require an opening principle. HE (CLOSE) — This means to close a particular thing. We can close a door for example. In martial arts we are closing a particular space in the body. The areas of the body, which this involves, are the back (upper and lower), midsection, chest, hips, spine and joints of the skeletal structure. There are many kinds of energy, which can require a closing principle. ZHANG (GROW, EXPAND) — This is a soft and extended energy. It is considered completely Yang. There are many kinds of Jing involved when connecting with an opponent for which Zhang plays the role of big brother. When you do Growing Jing, your hands relentlessly and insidiously keep approaching the opponent. When you encounter resistance instead of forcing your way in you evade and coil around obstacles, neutralizing any forward motion form the opponent. CHEN (SINK) — This refers to rooted heaviness, which is consolidated in the seat of the Qua (hips). The whole body can develop a soft yet extremely dynamic weight. A practitioner with good sinking energy is very hard to uproot. This is not a stagnant heaviness. The idea is to be able to shift fluidly where needed Instructors: Cathy & Paul Rotes Ages 5 - 16 & Adult Kickboxing Tae Kwon Do, Fitness Kickboxing & After School Program (831) 336-2043 10090 Hwy 9, Ben Lomond, CA 95005 MINORSAN Self Defense & Fitness Serving the community’s martial arts, self-defense & fitness needs since 1985. When a skilled practitioner touches an opponent the feeling of a heavy pressure should unmistakable. In addition to having ones’ own heaviness the practitioner can transmit it to another. This energy in combination with others can create a formidable tool not only in martial arts, but also as a first step towards a rooted mobility. One does not need to do traditional Kung Fu to develop these skills and there are great advantages to having a dynamic form of mobility that is organic and in harmony with our physical environment. Fruitful Vines by Donna Williams-Smith V INOTHERAPY IS THE practice of using wine by-products for Spa therapy and Skincare. The seeds, skins fruit and vines are all beneficial. Grapes in skincare treatments date back to the court of Louis XIV, in his time aged wine was applied to the face to create a more vibrant and youthful complexion. Modern research attributes these benefits of vinotherapy to resveratrol, an organic compound found mostly in the skin and vines of red grapes. Produced by the grape plant to ward off gray mold, resveratrol is the most active red wine catechin. ItÕs found in abundance in the skins of immature grapes and those grown in damp climates. The amount of resveratrol in a plant depends on the grape variety, it geographic origin and exposure to fungal infection. Red wine contains more of this highly desired substance, than white wine or rose as red is fermented with its skins intact longer than the other wines. Red or purple grape juices also contain high amounts of resveratrol. The grape vines and skin contain the most of the resveratrol which acts like a natural antibiotic to protect the vines against ultraviolet light and keeps them looking healthy in the sun. It is used in skin treatments to firm the epidermis, improve elasticity and stimulate cell proliferation. The anthocyanin, or pigments in the grapes also help improve circulation. In addition the seeds, skins and juice of grapes, all, have extremely high levels of antioxidants and polyphenols that contain procynidolic compounds. These heal skin damage and improve small blood vessel circulation by neutralizing free radicals. The polyphenols are rich in vitamin E which helps strengthen the skinÕs natural protective defenses and fight off the effects of pollution. Many spa therapies mix crushed grape seeds with other favorable ingredients, like the pulp, grape seed extracts, essential oils, honey and grape seed oil to gently exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. The grape seed polyphenols diminish redness, fade lines and leave the skin with a natural glow. The grape seed oil also helps decongest and drain the body of excess water. Drinking moderate amounts of wine (8 oz. per day) enhances Vinotherapy. Some benefits from the latest studies show that moderate wine drinkers: have a 34% lower mortality rate than drinkers of spirits or beer; have a 30% less risk of non-drinkers of developing Type II diabetes; have a 50% drop in the possibility of suffering a blood clot related stroke; cut the risk of colon cancer by 45% and that drinking wine lowers the risk of heart disease. Also brain func- tion declines at a faster rate in non-drinkers vs. that of moderate drinkers. The healing power of grapes not only prevents illness and promotes longevity, the new grape based Vinotherapy treatments promise to help you live out your years more beautifully. But what’s safe for them? … let’s talk about that!! by Linda Chaé Part II of II T HOSE HARMFUL TOXINS in baby products are still in the news – nearly every day! Last month we talked about the incredible threat to the health of our children from exposure to toxins from everyday ‘Children’s Products’! That’s really disgusting when you think about the amount of money spent by raw material suppliers to retailers to capture our business. Many countries have banned the sale of products with toxic ingredients in them. Closer to home, California enacted the first restriction on phthalates with the California Safe Cosmetics Act in 2006. Since then, Washington and Vermont have begun local legislation to prohibit the sale of products with phthalates as well. The good news is that national legislation has been drafted to place a similar ban on the use of phthalates in children’s products. The chemical industry is continuing to lobby against such action and the current administration is threatening a veto . . . but the good news is that our Senators and Representatives are beginning to acknowledge the danger to our youngest consumers. Remember, the average American comes into contact with over 200 toxic chemicals just getting ready for work in the morning! If you put it on your own body and then pick up your child to quiet their sobs, it’s safe to assume your child is getting exposed to the same 200 chemicals that you just slathered over your own body. So, are there simple things I can do? Take one step at a time. READ labels and try to limit the toxins in each product. Clip the list and take it with you when you’re shopping. Remember, if a product has 5 or 6 ingredients on the list – or only 1 ingredient on the list – that’s reason enough to look for a safer product. Red Flag Ingredients (toxic synthetic chemicals) to Avoid: Alcohol, Isopropyl (SD-40 Benzoyl Peroxide – found in many acne products DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine), & TEA (Triethanolamine) Dioxin – by-product of anti-bacterial soap manufacture and a deadly poison DMDM Hydantoin & Urea (Imidazolidinyl) FD&C Color Pigments Fragrances — can mean hundreds of chemicals mixed together Parabens — implicated as carcinogen in breast cancers and other chronic illnesses PEG (Polyethylene glycol) Phthalates — used to make products soft and pliable Propylene Glycol (PG) and Butylene Glycol Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) Triclosan — ingredient in many anti-bacterial products, may cause super germs Sunscreen ingredients like benzophenone, avebenzone, methyoxycinnamates, paba, etc. I formulated products specifically for babies and young children that have NONE of the Red Flag Ingredients in them. chaebaby shampoo ‘n body suds is designed to clean baby with just a puff of foam. Apply and wipe away with a soft cloth — no water needed. chaebaby lotion and chaebaby oil are intended to moisturize delicate baby skin – after bath or just for a soft massage all over baby. Keep them near the changing table / in the diaper bag so they go where ever your baby goes. I recommend you take time to find the best natural, certified organic and/or wild crafted products. Look for certifications like: Certified ToxicFree® Product Seal, the EcoCert Seal or the USDA Certified Organic Seal. They indicate a third party has examined the formulations and judged them according to their safety standards, which is why ALL chaebaby products carry the Certified ToxicFree® Product Seal. I believe you have a ‘Right to Know’ that what is in products will not harm your baby! This is a special day dedicated to children’s health, safety, and environmental awareness in our community. There will be hundreds of communities participating in the 14th year of this historic event, in which 3,000,000 children have benefited in 2,000 cities. This year is an especially exciting year for Kids Day America / International™, as it is being represented by Jonathan Lipnicki, star of such films as Jerry Maguire with Tom Cruise, and Stuart Little 1 and 2, as the new Celebrity Spokesperson! The inclusion of Jonathan Lipnicki is sure to bring an unprecedented level of media coverage and attention to the event, both locally and nationally as well. As a local Chiropractor, I spend a lot of time both inside and outside of my practice helping children. It is for this reason that I chose to sponsor this monumental event in Santa Cruz. We will provide essential information to all attendees on crime prevention, child safety, and environmental issues. We also will provide free fingerprinting to all children who attend, courtesy of our local police department. Our local fire department plans to support the event by providing fire safety tips. My staff and I are inviting all of our friends and neighbors to join us at this event. Our office will perform free health screenings, and we will distribute information on disease prevention and health promotion. There will be special appearances by “McGruff” The Crime Dog and other cartoon characters. We will also provide free balloons, snacks, and give-aways along with prize drawings every half- hour! I am pleased to announce that we are teaming up with the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Cruz to make this day even more spectacular! We are inviting area businesses to get involved and “Help Us Help the Children.” There are many ways in which you can get involved, such as: • Hanging one of our posters or flyers in your storefront KDA/I™ Donation Check List Event Date: • Temporary Tattoo Station Saturday, September 20th, 2008 ($50 donation) Not- For- Profit Event Help Us Help The Children! NOW 1 Topping ) 25 YEARS OF PAMPERING OUR FURRY FRIENDS HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SHAMPOO S hampoo chez (pronounce the “z”) was the first self-service dog wash, and it opened in Santa Cruz on August 29, 1983. It was and still is, 25 years later, the answer to every dog owner’s nightmare, five little words that made us shudder: “Our dog needs a bath”. I was petrified of dogs most of my life. My mother was bitten by a dog, and she constantly cautioned me not to go near any dogs. Gradually, I conquered my fear of dogs and in 1981 acquired two, a Golden Retriever and an Irish Setter. The big problem was giving a bath in the backyard. My husband hauled out gallons and gallons of warm water. By the time we were done, besides being soaked, I couldn’t straighten up. I figured that there had to be a better way. If there was a place like a do-it-yourself car wash, I would be willing to pay. Why not a self-service dog wash in an indoor facility? That idea would not leave me. I went to three people for opinions; Erik Johnson of Erik’s Deli Café, Reese Davis who was then President of County Bank, and Dr. Larry Stickles of the Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital. All three thought it was a great idea and encouraged me to go ahead. The store concept, which had to be the most comfortable set up for both dogs and their owners, took about a year in its design. With the wisdom and guidance of Ron Hirsch of Hirsch and Associates, we found the perfect location—the most important thing being visibility. We are at a five-corner intersection with a three-minute light and lots of traffic going by. Our informal slogan is “no more aching back, no more mess”. For the self-service customer, there are four bathing booths. Each contains non-skid ramps leading to a waist-high tub. The dog is attached by a collar and than treated to a temperaturecontrolled shower. Towels and a blow dryer are provided to complete the process. Self-service costs $14.00 for the first 20 minutes and a dollar for every five minutes over that. An apron and a brush are provided for the owner. Although dogs and cats can also be professionally groomed at the store, only dogs are permitted in the selfservice booths. Our professional groomers offer full-service dog and cat grooming. They are both certified graduates of a grooming school, have a great love for animals, use only natural products, and take pride in their work. CHEZ! The first canine customer was bathed on Monday, August 29, 1983. On that day, 33 dogs were given baths by their owners. In the past 25 years 148,760 baths were given. At Shampoo chez, we’ve been staunch advocates of natural products since we first opened our doors in 1983. In 1986, we developed our own line of safe and effective alternatives to flea control. Due to the great response to Shampoo chez’ products plus requests from many of our customers, we have expanded our line to include natural, holistic, homeopathic, and herbal remedies. Our products are manufactured exclusively for us under our strict supervision. We take pride in being able to offer you “Shampoo chez Good Earth Products”. Reaching out to the community with a variety of services is also an integral part of our philosophy. Since 1986, hundreds of dog washes were free to pet owners who were adopting from the local animal shelters. We teach guide dog owners (with a sighted companion at first) how to use the self-service facilities, and there is no charge. We give Gift Certificates to the local schools and to various non-profit organizations to help them raise much needed funds. Educational field trips emphasizing proper care of companion animals have brought many student groups to Shampoo chez. We also sponsor an annual Holiday Photo Contest in conjunction with the Toys for Tots Christmas Drive. Each contestant must bring in one toy for every two photos. The toys collected brighten the holiday season for many children. We were the first to offer a low cost Vaccination Clinic the first Sunday of the month from 1pm to 3pm; Dr. Beth Wilderman administers the shots. The Shampoo chez Newz, in its 23rd year of publication, goes out by direct mail to our 4,000 custom- ers. The Newz contains informative articles on pet care, educational columns by local professionals who are most knowledgeable about the health and well being of your four-footed friends, and new products that we have at the store. Our customers receive a discount bonus card. As you buy products (except Advantage), we punch the paw prints on the card. When all the paw prints are punched, a discount equal to $5.00 is given at the time of purchase. And, after 12 self-service dog washes, the 13th is free. For the past 25 years, the most prominent sign in our store has read, “People like to come here and talk, and we take the time to listen”. We believe that it’s time we all renewed our commitment to environmental responsibilities, and to using products that will comfortably reintegrate into our world instead of altering it. At Shampoo chez, good service, credibility and caring are important to us. As pet lovers, we think about our connection with animals—not only those who share our homes, but those who are endangered around the world. We hope that by sharing our knowledge and making these products available to you we can help improve and enrich the quality of your life and the lives of your fourfooted friends. And don’t forget the “random” selection at the security checkpoint where you have to go into a booth that blows air up your skirt. Why do I always get pulled to the side? Make sure you put Music Connection and your bands name in the subject line. with special effects and non-stop, frenetic action, and at times we found it hard to follow. Do we really need this much violence to make the points clear? Given how many young people go to see this movie, the moral of the story gets overshadowed by the constant destruction. Sure, it sells, but that doesn’t make it right. And what’s up with Batman’s hoarse Darth Vader-like voice? Heath Ledger’s performance as the joker truly is a masterpiece though, haunting and frighteningly convincing (2 hrs 30 min). Journey to the Center of the Earth With Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson, Anita Briem Entertainment: 2.5 Message: 3 airly one-dimensional, but adequately entertaining if you’re a geologist looking for a good fantasy to help with your career plateau. While Brendan Fraser and the rest of the cast do a fine job, and some of the effects are cool, this movie based on Jules Verne’s classic tale is, sadly, mediocre. Clearly targeted at younger people, it’s also meant to be watched with 3-D glasses. Otherwise, it is just lightweight, non-violent entertainment, decent for what it is. Given how much could be done with this intriguing story, however, the results are fairly disappointing (1 hr 32 min). F Mamma Mia! With Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth Entertainment: 4.5 Message: 3.5 his is what film entertainment was meant to be! Remember this is only my opinion. Don Quixotes hosted The Best Intentions Motown Mania Tribute Show, featuring Samantha Alexes, and accompanied by the Reed Fromer Band. It was a powerful tribute to the greatest acts of Motown, choreographed down to the beat, with several outfit changes (including shoes). I didn’t stop dancing. The Pat McCormack Group opened up for Y & T as they have so many times in the past. This time they played their new sound of “surf-style guitar rock with teeth” that is inspired by the fact that Pat created theme music for several thrill rides at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. For the 2nd year in a row I saw John Waite at the SC Boardwalk. This year, I was a crazy dancer up front grooving for the entire show. John’s voice is still as strong as ever and backed by a fabulous band. Always a great show to see. CD Review: Astral Travel introduces DreamGaze: The Music You Dream To. Their debut album, “The Sound of Light”, is a complicated, layered compilation of instruments along with hypnotic vocals that take you on a dream-like journey. Undergo your own out-of-body experience with a sample of their music at http://www. myspace.com/AstralTravel. catchy songs… all serving as a backdrop to simply charming performances. Meryl Streep is at the top of her game – a passionate live wire, sparking brightly from start to finish, and Amanda Seyfried, wonderful as Sophie, the bride to be. So contagious is the music that you may want to dance down the isles of the movie theater – who cares that some of the musical performances are a bit off! Brings new meaning to “Pierce,” but the sound track is still a must (1 hr 48 min). Swing Vote With Kevin Costner, Dennis Hopper, Nathan Lane, Kelsey Grammer, Stanley Tucci Entertainment: 3 Message: 4.5 his timely farce about the sad state of the political process in America isn’t as flawed as partisan politics (not saying much), and makes powerful and touching points about what matters. Great cast, and more-than-adequate character development (yes, Costner has the range to effectively portray a drunken, hapless loser… not that hard to imagine); Young Madeline Carroll gives a masterful performance as his daughter. And if anybody’s interested, there are serious undertones – the film does a fine job addressing real issues through the eyes of this thoughtful youngster. The ends do not justify the means (1 hr 40 min). T The X-files: I Want to Believe With David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Amanda Peet Entertainment: 2.5 Message: 3 ike a big “whatever,” this fairly dull fare just meanders through strangely familiar macabre police investigation territory. Now what exactly should we believe in here? The chemistry between the lead actors is more interesting than the plot, but still not enough to carry it, even for fans of the original TV series. Its one virtue: this terrestrial sci-fi uses almost no special effects and stands alone, not as a “tune in next time” multipart series. In this respect, the story arrives in one sitting, but as a horror/thriller, there’s little to believe in or care about (1 hr 44 min). L WALL-E Voices Benjamin Burtt, Jeff Garlin, Elissa Knight, Fred Willard, John Ratzenberger Entertainment: 4 Message: 4.5 f E.T. and robot No. 5 from Short Circuit had a love child, it would look like this: WALL-E, a lonely trash bot (an ”intelligent” trash compactor on wheels, more or less), chasing the ‘droid of his dreams well beyond the ends of the earth. Our hero has more human emotion and clarity of purpose than most people we know. Whimsical and delightful, this Pixar masterpiece is the first hit of the summer. It gets so “busy” and hyper during some of the action sequences that we question the necessity of such frenetic noise, but there’s also a great message in there about consumerism, the fast food “culture” and corporate autocracy, which will probably fly over the heads of younger kids, but it’s vitally important nonetheless. We attended a packed weekend matinee, so there were peels of laughter as we were enchanted by the great humor, heart and spectacular animation (1 hr 37 min.). Astrology for August 2008 A ugust opens with a Solar Eclipse in fiery dramatic Leo. Eclipses are always times for alignment and cleansing, aligning intentions and consciousness with behavior and action. Issues of pride, and consequences of positions of power will be exposed. The Solar Eclipse falls in Leo every 12 years, emphasizing challenges to stretch ourselves, to bring forth our strength and perseverance in action and intention. Watch how issues heighten. On a personal level, realign your vital forces and actions with your feelings and subconscious. Take time to find where your ego is out of balance. The lunar eclipse takes place on August 16th, highlighting the power of Neptune in Aquarius. This power dissolves structures like the tides wear away patterns in the sand. It exposes a collective illusion in the society that won’t sustain us anymore, shifting us away from individual gain into remembering our interrelatedness with the earth, nature and all of mankind. This continues through 2009. The sun enters Virgo on the 22nd, highlighting the element of Earth and issues of getting the work accomplished, analysis, service and harvest. From the 25th – 28th, the Democratic Convention takes place, under this gathering of planets in Virgo. On the night of Obama’s acceptance speech, the Moon in Leo shines onto Obama’s Leo Sun bringing forth his leadership qualities, while the Virgo energy supports his own Virgo planets, enhancing humbleness and the desire to serve. Twelve opportunities for June: Aries (Mar 20-Apr 19): This month, tune into your heart and express your sincere feelings. Find ways to play that remind you of your childhood. Become aware of what prevents honest heartfelt expression. Balance your need to get things done with tuning into a much “T AROT FOR THE by James Wanless, Ph.D. hat, tarot for the workplace? Yes, but not “prediction fiction.” Tarot, particularly with the progressive 21st century Deck called Voyager, can be used as an insightful, brainstorming, strategic and innovative thinking tool that is motivating and empowering. In fact, just using the cards is an intuitive practice that develops the sixth sense. In today’s world of change, complexity and uncertainty, left brain logic is antiquated and slow while our inner feeling enables us to quantum leap obsolete tradition to get the competitive edge. You are, at the very least, acting in your own truth and center, which gives you the best chance of succeeding. Because the tarot is mythic by giving you a heroic self-identity (for example, a person is not just intuitive, but the tarot’s Priestess, while the risk-taking entrepreneur is the Fortune Maker), it’s a way for tapping your inner resources that enable you to live large, energetically and wisely. These archetypal qualities of your inner Magician or Empress are the ultimate experts and powers that guide you to the full use of your business potentials. As a proactive planning process, Voyager Tarot takes you on the classic “Hero’s Journey.” This is a Reading whereby you pick cards for your heroic strengths and allies as well as obstacles and sacrifices to game-plan your way to victory. Before selecting your outcome card, this exercise demands that you determine a “doable” set of actions to take. This revolutionary form of tarot is not “fortune telling,” but “fortune creation” – a way of having your own inner coach. Even a one-card Reading can give you an enormous creative aha! Outside-the-box use of picture symbols from a “randomly” picked card breaks you free from old, habitual thinking and enables you to see differently – so imperative in W larger picture of life. Though you can act quickly, during this time, don’t be hasty. Taurus (Apr 20-May 20): This month, family is very highlighted. Significant patterns are revealed to you about your relationships with family and yourself. Deeper layers of your own patterns will come to light. During the lunar eclipse, align with a new dream, and intention of what you want to bring out to the world. Gemini (May 21-Jun 20): This month, attune to your thinking and communicating. Become more aware of the patterns of your mind and what frames your perspective. Relationships with siblings can be cleared. As Mercury moves into Virgo, take time to organize in home and office. As the month moves on, you find it much easier to focus on your intention. Cancer (Jun 21–Jul 21): Within you is tremendous strength. This month, access your talents and look over your money situation. Prioritizing what you value in practical terms will help clarify issues. Find balance between energy output and self nourishment. The solar eclipse shines a light on your finances, and your shared finances, in order to refine any situations. Leo (Jul 22 – Aug 22): This month is for deep cleansing. Realign your emotional, mental, spiritual and physical realities. Take this opportunity to bring healing and compassion to your relationships. Express your heart’s desire. Libra (Sep 23-Oct 22): Ask yourself, where are my obligations and boundaries in terms of friends, family and children? Adjusting and fine-tuning your interactions with others is a big theme this W ORKPLACE ” the contemporary workplace. It has been well documented that metaphoric thinking like this is the basis for most inventive breakthroughs. Once, in a consultation with me, a company president picked the “Love” card and was moved to forming an “employee-first” enterprise. Wow! As for communication, which is the sine qua non of effective business partnering and teaming, have you and your partners pick a card for what you each “bring to the table.” This is one of my favorite tarot practices. You will get to know your team-mates and yourself in a way not recognized before, and this can open up a dialogue that eventuates into deeper inter-connectivity. I’ll never forget the day a CEO cried in front of his company as a result of picking the month. It is time to realign your needs with and how you share yourself with others. Mid month take things slowly and simply for maximum benefit. Scorpio (Oct 23Nov 21): A realignment is taking place in job, purpose and career, also in your relationship with authority, parents and or bosses.
