NOTE ON THE PLAYWRIGHT
MARTIN McDONAGH
“I suppose I walk that line between comedy and cruelty
because I think one illuminates the other. We’re all cruel,
aren’t we? We are all extreme in one way or another at
times and that’s what drama, since the Greeks, has dealt
with. I hope the overall view isn’t just that though, or
I’ve failed in my writing. There have to be moments when you glimpse
something decent, something life-affirming even in the most twisted
character. That’s where the real art lies.”
-Martin McDonagh
Martin McDonagh is a playwright, filmmaker and screenwriter, with both
British and Irish citizenship. Born on March 26, 1970 in Camberwell,
London, England, to Irish parents he has been described as one of
the most important living Irish playwrights. Separated into two trilogies,
McDonagh’s first six plays are located in and around County Galway
where he spent his summers as a child. The first, The Leenane Trilogy, is
set in Leenane, a small village on the west coast of Ireland, and consists
of The Beauty Queen of Leenane (1996), A Skull in Connemara (1997)
and The Lonesome West (1997). His second, The Aran Islands Trilogy,
consists of The Cripple of Inishmaan (1997), The Lieutenant of Inishmore
(2001) and The Banshees of Inisheer. Though McDonagh grew up in
London, all of these plays are written in an Irish idiom. The combination
of a pastiche of rural Irish forms and a displaced urban sensibility gives
his work a dark, violent, and very funny edge. At the age of 27 Martin
McDonagh was the first playwright since Shakespeare to have four plays
running simultaneously in London’s West-End. McDonagh is also known
for two other plays: arguably his craziest, The Pillowman (2003) and A
Behanding in Spokane (2010), and his films In Bruges (2008), Seven
Psychopaths (2012) and Six Shooter (2004).

THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE
LENNIE DEAN
(Mag
Folan)
Lennie
received an MFA in
Acting from the Temple
University
Advanced
Actor Training Program
in Philadelphia. She has
been part of the Sonoma
County theatre scene for forty years.
She has taught, acted, directed, worked
as dramaturg and produced for several
theatre companies and schools in New
York, Philadelphia and San Francisco, as
well as locally in Santa Rosa, Petaluma
and Sonoma. She is currently teaching
adult acting here at 6th Street Playhouse.
Her favorite roles include Josie in Moon
for the Misbegotten, Bernarda in House of
Bernarda Alba, Meg in The Hostage, and
Corlis in Chemistry of Change.
CHRIS GINESI
(Pato
Dooley)
Chris
Ginesi is co-founder
and Executive Director
of Narrow Way Stage
Company. He is quite
excited (and a little bit
insane) to be directing The
Lonesome West, and acting in The Beauty
Queen of Leenane at the same time here
at 6th St. He is a lifetime student of acting,
drawing most upon his experience with the
Meisner Technique. As a director, next up is
Little Shop of Horrors for Narrow Way Stage
and the Sonoma Theatre Alliance. Favorites
he’s directed include The Dog Problem and
The Sudden and Accidental Re-education
of Horse Johnson. As an actor, a favorite
experience was originating the title role in
Darryl, Come Home. Other favorites include
playing Col. Jessep in A Few Good Men,
Cassius in Julius Caesar and Jack in On An
6
Average Day. Thanks to Mom and Dad for
your unwavering love and support. I wouldn’t
be here without you.
JESSICA SHORT
HEADINGTON
(Maureen Folan) Jessica
has a BFA in Acting from
Stephens College. She
appeared most recently
here in the Studio Theatre
in Date Night, as well
as two plays in the 10 Minute Play Festival
last summer. Her other roles at 6th Street
have been: Ivy in August: Osage County,
Flora/Maggie in The Tennessee Menagerie,
and Grace in The Ticking Clock Project.
Elsewhere in Sonoma County, Jess played
Dawn in Lobby Hero at Sonoma Stage
Works and Agnes White in Bug at Narrow
Way Stage Company. She thanks her family
for their love and support--especially her Dad
for bringing her up on a strict diet of soul.
JAY MAUDLIN
(Ray
Dooley)
Jay
is
currently
enrolled
in his Junior year at
Montgomery High School.
He has been acting since
middle school, and plans
on doing theatre as long
as he can. He has had the pleasure of
working with Bronwen Shears previously
in two productions as part of his Drama
class at Monty. He played Renfield in the
performance of Dracula that she directed,
and before that he portrayed Selsdon, in
Noises Off! directed by Craig Miller. This is
Jay’s first professional role and he feels very
blessed to have been chosen!!

BIOGRAPHIES
THE LONESOME WEST
CLINT CAMPBELL
(Father Welsh) Clint is
honored to be returning
to 6th Street’s Studio and
especially with this show.
His first major role was
the heroine addict Torch in
Laurence Fishburne’s Riff
Raff, a co-production between Narrow Way
Stage Co. and 6th Street Playhouse. It was
through Torch’s pain that Clint found his love
of acting. Life isn’t always pretty and there
are sides to it we may never want to see but
need to. It’s the hardships in our lives that
force us to grow and through theatre we can
experience these adversities in a safe but
personal environment. Over a half a decade
later Clint, along with his cast and crew,
which include three other members from that
Riff Raff, are grateful for the chance to unite
the two companies again to bring this story
to you. Thank you for supporting live theatre
and enjoy the show. Cheers.
JON CHRISTENSON
(Valene) Jon is making
his community acting
debut in The Lonesome
West. He enjoyed the
journey of preparing for
the production. Nora and
Clint have been a blast
to work with and very supportive. Chris has
been a great director and Jon appreciates all
the knowledge Chris has given to him. The
greatest joy is working with his brother, Nick,
who has helped him become a stronger
actor and has made the work a lot of fun. The
Christenson boys are truly Irish Brothers.
Thanks to his mom and dad for their support.
Thanks to all Jon’s friends who have come to
support him and to enjoy the performance.
Most of all, he wants to thank the love of his
707.523.4185 x1 life, Breanna, for always being there for him
and making this journey in life so special.
NICK CHRISTENSON
(Coleman) Nick is beyond
excited to be working at 6th
Street Playhouse again.
Nick is a Co-Founder and
Artistic Director of Narrow
Way Stage Company. He
was just recently seen in
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in the G.K.
Hardt Theater here at 6th Street Playhouse.
He would like to thank his beautiful love
Alexis for her undying support and his family
who is always there through thick and thin.
Also he is truly honored to share the stage
with such talented actors including his reallife brother Jon. You rocked it, buddy. And
finally, thank you to all of you who have
ventured into the theatre tonight, see you on
the other side.
NORA SUMMERS
(Girleen) Nora is a recent
graduate of Sonoma State
University as a Theatre
Arts Major. She has
appeared on Bay Area
stages in San Francisco,
Sonoma/Napa
County,
and the East Bay. She was most recently
seen in Spamalot here at 6th Street and
can be seen next as Audrey in Little Shop of
Horrors in Sonoma with Narrow Way Stage
Company. She is excited to be revisiting the
role of Girleen after almost a year, and would
like to thank her kick-ass cast members,
Adam Palafox, and Chris Ginesi for putting
up with her shenanigans.

Production Staff
LANI BASICH (Production Stage Manager
for The Beauty Queen of Leenane) Lani has
been involved in the theatre community in
this area since she was very young, and has
been working within the local play houses
and theatres on a professional platform
for six years now. “The Beauty Queen of
Leenane and The Lonesome West have
been an absolute joy to work on! I am beyond
thrilled and proud to be a part of these
productions!” This show will be Lani’s second
show in which she has stage managed,
and Lonesome West will be the fifth show
she has worked on as an assistant stage
manager. Besides stage management Lani
enjoys performing both onstage and behind
the curtains via designing hair and makeup
(especially alongside her twin sister Janelle
Basich who also performs and designs for
shows all over the county). Additionally, Lani
has greatly enjoyed designing the makeup
and hair for 6th street’s production of The
Beauty Queen of Leenane. “I really hope the
audience enjoys these shows as much as I
have!”
SKYLAR EVANS (Lighting Designer for both
shows and Assistant Director for The Beauty
Queen of Leenane) By day Skylar can be
found helping with the builds and strikes
of the sets here at 6th Street Playhouse.
Recently he was the assistant director
and sound mixer for Spamalot (6th Street
Playhouse), designed the lights for Les
Miserables (SRJC) and Boeing Boeing (6th
Street Playhouse) and acted in The Miracle
Junkie (The Glaser Center). Next up, he will
direct one of the one acts featured in the
New Play Festival in the Studio Theatre here
at 6th Street. McDonagh is one of Skylar’s
all-time favorite authors and he is thrilled to
be a part of this experience. He would like
to thank Craig, Vince, Phoenix, Kyle, Sarah
and Bronwen for the support and inspiration.

CHRIS GINESI (Director of The Lonesome
West) Chris Ginesi is co-founder and
Executive Director of Narrow Way Stage
Company. He is quite excited (and a little

your unwavering love and support. I wouldn’t

ROSHELL PULK (Properties Master) In
early 2009, she was looking to volunteer
for something that peeked her interest and
offered a challenge. After attending an
orientation meeting at 6th Street Playhouse
she began to assist with different tasks,
and working on funding raising events for
the Playhouse. Then she was asked if she
would like to do props for a play. Roshell
did not have a clue, but it seemed to be
validation for all the garage sales, thrift
stores and other haunts she love to frequent
in search of items she deem cast off before
their time. So she began to learn to search
for and create props. And once exposed to
backstage through attending rehearsals and
production meetings, seeing the magic of
theater, she was hooked. Working with all
the wonderful people involved with the 6th
Street Playhouse is incredible.
