using 3¾mm needles.
NOTES
The stitches for the wrap are made using the thumb
method of casting on (see below) whereas the 6 sts which
are cast on for the inward-slanting points are made by
looping the yarn around the left thumb and slipping this
loop onto the right hand needle.
TO MAKE
With 3¾mm, cast on 105 sts using the thumb method
of casting on. 1st and every RS row Knit. 2nd row K97,

12th row K 92, skpo, [yo, skpo] 3 times. 99 sts. Do not
turn, but cast on 6 sts. 105 sts. These 12 rows form garter
st with inward-slanting pointed edging. Rep these 12 rows
28 times more but, on the last row, do not cast on 6 sts.
Knit 1 row. Now work outward-slanting pointed edging as
follows: 1st row K94, [yo, k2tog] twice, yo, k1. 100 sts.

row Cast off 6 sts loosely purlwise, k to end. 99 sts. The
last 12 rows form garter st with outward-slanting pointed
edging. Rep these 12 rows 28 times more, but on the last
row, cast off all sts purlwise. Darn in all yarn ends neatly.
THUMB METHOD OF CASTING ON
1 Make a slip
knot about 1.5
– 2m from the
end of the ball,
place this on a
needle and pull
firmly to make
the first stitch.
2 Holding the
needle in your
right hand, loop
the short end of
yarn round your
left thumb and
grip with fingers
as shown.
3 Place the point
of the needle
under the loop
of yarn which is
round your thumb,
keeping the main
yarn over your
right index finger.
4 Bring the yarn
from the main ball
under then over
the needle, before
bringing point of
needle through
the loop that’s on
your thumb.
5 Tighten the
stitch on the
needle and loop
the yarn round
your thumb
ready for the
next stitch.
