GENERAL INFORMATION
ELECTRICAL AND THERMAL PROTECTION
This catalogue describes the tandard range of totally enclosed fan ventilated
single phase and three phase industnal squirrel cage BROWN GROUP
EUROMOTORS.
EUROMOTORS can be supplied for both Indoor and outdoor use and in aggressive
environments where dust, moisture etc. might be present. This makes
EUROMOTOR the natural choice for applications throughout Industry and
agriculture.
CONSTRUCTION
EUROMOTORS are constructed in either aluminium or cast iron material which
provides excellent strength and thennal properties. Aluminium frame motors
are shown j the colour blue and cast iron in black.
TERMINAL BOX
The terminal box is sealed to IP55 and lac ted on top as standard. It is designed to
be large enough to aliow quick and safe connections to be made when the cover is
removed. By special order the terminal box may be located on the RH
or LH side.
INSULATION AND PROTECTION
MOTOR CONTROL GEAR
EUROMOTORS in operation should be protected against short circuit, ovenoad
and excessive temperature rise. Fuses, motor protective switches and thermal
protective switches provide the necessary protection in these circumstances.
Fuses only serve as a short circuit protection of the EUROMOTOR (locked rotor),
but not as a protection against ovenoad. Fuses in the incoming line should be
chosen so as to be able to withstand the starting curren! of the motor. Motor
starters incorporating thermal-magnetic overloads or circuit breakers protect
the EUROMOTOR from ovenoad or reduced voltage in the supply system Electro­
magnetic quick releases in the switch protect the EUROMOTOR against short
circuit. With the motor designed for continuous operation, the overload relays
are set to the rated current of the motor, or slightly higher if it Is necessary to
avoid nuisance tripping In certain applications. Ail EUROMOTORS are designed
for operation at a continuous overload of + 10%, for maximum 40 deg. C
ambient at maximum altitude of 1000m.
BUILT IN MOTOR PROTECTION
Thennal protection, PTC thennistors, can be built into the motor windings and
re pond to the temperature 01 the Windings giving protection by cutting off the
motor from the supply system when a temperature is reached that deterioration
could take place due to:

MOTORS WITH INCREASED OUTPUT
Selected EUROMOTORS are produced with a greater output kW than the nonnal
standard for a given frame size (See page 1.6 lor details). These EUROMOTORS
maintain normal compliance with the Class 'B' temperature rise, etc
Increased Power EUROMOTORS are nol recommended for u e with Inverters,
although this may be possible for certain applications. Please refer to our
Technical Department.
SITE CONDITIONS
EUROMOTORS can be used In most environments and will operate satisfactorily
at temperatures from -2lJOC to +4()QC and at altitudes up to 1000 metre above
sea level.
For special environmental conditions, please consult our Technical Department.
VOLTAGE
EUROMOTORS are designed for the new IEC standard voltages (IEC 38) of 230V,
400V and 690V, 50 Hz, with a permissible voltage variation of ± 10%. They
may therefore be used freely on either 380 volts +15% -5%, or 415V +5% ­
15% supply systems. Only the values of Full Load Current and Output Torque
have to be amended from the infonnation given in the technical tables.
FREQUENCY
EUROMOTORS will operate continuously at full load at frequencies between -5%
and +2% of the nominal frequency.
All EUROMOTORS wound specifically for 50 Hz may be operated on a 60 Hz
supply with a nominal increase In speed of 20%. However, If the supply voltage
is the same as at 50 Hz, the output torque performance will be reduced by 17%.

NVERTER FED MOTORS
Thermistor protection is particularly suitable when operating EUROMOTORS
from an inverter. All EUROMOTORS except Increased Power EUROMOTORS are
suitable for operation with inverters. Please consult our Technical Department.

SHAFTS
The EUROMOTORS as standard are supplied with adrive end output shaft accordin
to IEC 72, DIN 42955/748 with keyways to DIN 6885
However, on special request, the EUROMOTOR can be provided with double shaft
extension, each provided with a key lor fixing of power transmission components.
MULTI-SPEED MOTORS
Standard EUROMOTORS are available in either 2, 4, 6 Dr 8 pole designs. On
special request EUROMOTORS of other polarities as well as multi-speed
EUROMOTORS ar available.

BEARINGS
POWER FACTOR (COS
EUROMOTORS are provided with suitably sized bearings of quality manufacture
at both drive and non-dnve end and are lubricated for the entire working life of
the EUROMOTOR up to frame size 250 Larger sizes of EUROMOTOR are provided
with built in lubricators.
On the smaller range of motors one end shield is fitted with a wavy washer,
which ensures qUiet operation of the EUROMOTOR and prevents bearing damage
during transit.
The power factor is the raUo, input kW to input kVA.
COOLING
The EUROMOTORS are surface cooled as designated by IC411 according to lEG
recommendations. To increase the cooling surface, the stator frames are ribbed.
An external fan, protected by metal fan cowl ensures sufficient cooling air is
driven over the EUROMOTOR frame surface The quantity of cooling air and the
efficiency of the cooling is the same for both rotational directions of the
EUROMOTORS. The EUROMOTOR should always be mounted in such a way that
the cooling air can freely circulate. The air inlets on the end of the fan cowl must
be free from obstruction and a minimum clear distance of 50 mm should be
maintained at all times.
The EUROMOTOR should not be operated with the fan or fan cowl damaged or
missing, as without full ventilation the EUAOMOTOR cannot develop the output
as indicated on the nameplate. The EUROMOTOR should not be installed near a
heat source or in an enclosed area with so small a quantity of air that the
temperature rise of the EUROMOTOR might influence tile temperature of the
cooling air
STARTING
Direct on-line starting can be used on all frame sizes and powers of EUROMOTORS.
EUROMOTOR frame sizes 100 and below are suitable for delta-star connection
with six terminals provided and as standard are suitable for 230-400 (2201
240-380/415) volt connections.
EUROMOTOR frame sizes 112 and above are for 400 (380/415) volt delta
connection and are provided with six temlnals which can be used for star-delta
starting if required.
FULL LOAD CURRENT (AMPS)
The full load current is the root mean square (ms) line current of the motor,
when delivering rated output at rated speed with rated voltage and frequency.
LOCKED ROTOR CURRENT
The locked rotor current is the measured steady state root mean square (rms)
current taken from the line with the EUROMOTOR at rest with rated voltage and
frequency applied, expressed as the ratio, locked rotor current to rated current.
LOCKED ROTOR TORQUE
The locked rotor torque is the minimum measured torque Which the EUROMOTOR
will develop with the rotor locked and rated voltage applied at rated frequency,
expressed as the ratio, locked rotor torque to rated torque.
PULL OUT TORQUE
The pull out torque is the highest torque that the EUROMOTOR can develop whilst
running at rated voltage and frequency, expressed as the ratio, pull out torque to
rated torque.
ROTOR INERTIA (Kgm 2)
The moment of inertia of a rotor with respect to the longitudinal axis of the shaft
is the sum of the products obtained by multiplying the mass of each component
oJ the rotor by the square of its distance from the axis.
CABLE GLAND ENTRY
Cable gland entries are as standard to the RH side of the teminal box (viewed
from shaft end) for top mounted terminal boxes.
The terminal boxes for frame sizes 56-315 can be rotated by 4 x 90 degrees
Frame sizes 355-400 can be rotated by 2 x 180 degrees.
OVERLOAD CAPACITIES
In compliance with IEC 34-1, all motors can be exposed to the following overload
conditions:
1.5 times the rated current for 2 minutes
1.6 times the rated torque for 15 seconds
Both conditions apply at the rated voltage and rated frequency
HEATERS
In order to prevent moisture/condensation build-up during standstill or storage,
heaters can be built into the interior of the EUROMOTOR. Heater terminals are
situated in the terminal box. Standard upply voltage is 230V, 50 Hz, and on
special request, heaters for other voltages can be built in. Basic design has no
built-in heaters. Heater au uts for various sizes of EUROMOTORS are available
on request.
As an alternative for the prevention of moisture/condensation build-up during
standstill, heating can be accomplished by sup lying a reduced voltage to stator
teminals U1 and V1 (care should be taken not to exceed motor cunrant rating,
and the mUng of thermistors is also advised.
CORROSION PROTECTION
Our qUality procedures ensure that all intemal and external surfaces are protected
against corrosion, with shafts and mounting fac s provided with added temporary
protection. An1j-corrosive protection for salty, tropical and other aggressive
environments Is available upon request
NOISE
Noise level of all motors is considerably below the values prescribed in IEC 34­
9 regulations or EN 60034-9.
The values of noise level (sound pressure
and sound power Lw) for various
sizes and polarities of motors are available upon request.
FINISHING COAT
Motors will be supplie wittl paint finish in shades of RAl 7031 or RAL 5000.
See sections 1 - 4 dimension pages for specific details.
Upon special request finishing coat of paint can be supplied In other shades.
EFFICIENCY (%)
EUROMOTORS 1.1 - 90kW, 2and 4 pole are manufact red in efficiency class ilwhich
is indicated with the "eff 2' sign on the motor plate. Motors to efficiency class 1are
available on request.

MOTORS WITH REDUCED VIBRATION
STANDARDS &REGULATIONS
The quality of a EUROMOTOR from the point of view of vibration is determined
according to IEC 34-14. The basic design of EUROMOTOR is within intensity of
vibration N(normal). On special request, EUROMOTORS can be produced in intensity
of vibration Ror S.
The following table summanses the maximum limits of vibration amplitude for various
frame sIZes of motors and indicates the three types of balancing classes as specified
by IEC 34·14
The degree of vibration (shown below) is obtained through the manufacture of the
parts, accurate construction and balancing of rotating masses. EUROMOTORS
requiring Class R/Class S are subject to additional inspection prior to despatch.
EUROMOTORS are manufactured in compliance with IEC, VDE and DIN standards.
CLASS N (Normal)
Standard production EUROMOTORS without special requirements for general
applications such as printing machines, centrifugal pumps etc.
CLASS R (Reduced)
Precision EUROMOTORS to operate without vibration for applications such as precision
milling and drilling machines etc.
CLASS S (Special)
High precision EUROMOTORS for such applications as grinding machines, balancing
machines etc.

MOTORS WITHOUT FANS
It is possible to remove the fan and fan cowl from the standard squirrel cage
induction EUROMOTOR when it is to operate under certain conditions ie:­
1.
The EUROMOTOR is provided with adequate separate ventilation. In
continuous running duty the motor has the same electrical
characteristics as a mo or with its own ventilation.
2.
The EUROMOTOR is for short time duty or intermittent periodic duty
and is not provided with any ventilation. Electrical characteristics
may remain unchanged if the table below Is respected.

STORAGE
Ensure storage area is always maintained to an acceptable air temperature
during all seasons, Moisture and air contaminations can form acids in the
bearing grease promoting rust and etching of the bearing balls To avoid damage
to the baH bearings arising from seismic and other vibrations all EUROMOTORS
should have their shafts rotated (by hand) at least every 8 week cycle time,
Motors of IP55 classification and above stored for a period of 12 months or
more should have seals checked and changed where necessary prior to using,

MB and MP Motor Slide Bases are specifically designed for extreme drive loads and all sizes are manufactured (without welding) in heavy gauge pre-slotted galvanised steel,
thus offering maximum resistance to corrosion.
The end user now has the ability to maintain absolute belt alignment throughout the drive tensioning process meaning fast In situ belt tensioning without the removal of guards
and thus no plant down time.
For offshore and special process applications all bases can be supplied to special order coated or manufactured in stainless steel.

These motors can be used if:­
INCREASED POWER MOTORS
The standard range of EUROMOTOR 3 phase squirrel cage induction motors can
be made with the same constructional dimensions but whose rated outputs are
substantially increased (Increased Power).
Increased Power EUROMOTORS should not be used with inverters.
1.
Due to the construction of the driven machine a EUROMOTOR motor
of reduced dimensions is required to operate at the same rated
torque as a larger frame size.
2.
An increased rated output is required from the same constructional
dimensions as prescribed by DIN 42673

at 50Hz and calculated at 20,000 working hours for two pole motors and 25,000 hours for 4,6 and 8 pole motors. At 60Hz the values must
be reduced by 10%.

GENERAL
CAPACITORS
Single-phase induction motors PC series are particuarly suitable for a wide
range of duties and especially those with easy start. The field of their application
is very wide tlecause of large number of operating machines starting at no-load
or under very small load
All single phase motors, series PC, are fitted with a capacitor for continuous
operation at rated voltage and capacitance as indicated in the selection table.
The CC motors (with increased starting torque), besides the capacitor for
continuous operation are also provided with an electrolytic capacitor for starting,
having the rated values shown in the selection table.
The rated values of all capacitors in the tables refer to motors rated for the
supply system 230V. For supply systems of different voltages and frequencies
the ratings of the capacitors are given on request. Motors can be fitted with a
maximum of two capacitors. In case of motors with more than two capacitors,
the capacitors are not attached to the motor.
They are particularly suitable and safe In operation when used for driving fans.
circular saws, grinding machines, centrifugal pumps, various mills and presses,
lathe machines, drilling machines, etc.
Single-phase capacitor starVrun induction motors CC series (with increased
starting torque) are intended for applications such as: drives of compressors,
various presses, mills, thrashers and other heavy agricultural machines.
Electroiytic start capacitor during the starting period is in parallei with the run
capacitor. It is switched off by means of centrifugal switcll at about 80% rated
speed of rotation.
TERMINAL BOX
The terminal box of single-phase motors is very spacious and totally enclosed.
In basic design it is made of plastic and contains the terminal connections and
capacitors. It is designed in such a manner that when the cover is removed, the
motor can be quickly and safely connected (accessibility of terminals and
e rthing screw). Terminal box can be rotated 180 deg. related to terminal
cabinet. Each terminal tlox is provi ed with cable glands for connecting motor to
power supply. Cable gland is Pg 16
ELECTRICAL FEATURES
Single ptlase motors are normally made for operaiion on voltage 230V and frequency
50Hz The permissible deviation from the rated voltage amounts to +/-5%; rated
power by this remains unchanged. If amotor rated for specific voltage and frequency
is connected to lower voltage of the same frequency. tile motor kW should be reduced
according to the table 2.1.
Motors for other voltages and frequencies are made on request.

OPERATION
brake motors are intended for use in cranes, lifts,
marine equipment and all applications where stopping
of flywheel masses, braking in cases of danger, and
required.
On request, to ensure safe braking for lifting and winch applications, it is
recommended that a steel rotor is fitted to the brake.
EUROMOTOR BRAKE MOTORS
The EUROMOTOR brakes listed in this cataiogue are fitted with a spring-applied
single-disc DC brake.
The brake is fail safe type, ie., it is applied by spring action when the electrical
supply circuit is interrupted. The DC brake coil is supplied from a rectifier
which is fitted in the terminal box. The EUROMOTOR and brake circuits must be
energized simultaneously. Standard EUROMOTOR brakes are supplied with full
wave rectifiers connected for 230V AC.
All the brake ratings listed In the selection table are referred to duty type S1
(continuous).
The EUROMOTOR brakes can be built for intermittent duty, 60,40, 25% cyclic
duration factor; please submit a detailed enquiry.
The helical compressor springs (9) positioned in the magnetic stator (10) push
the friction plate (8) axially across the air gap (2) which traps the rotor (7)
between (8) and the back face of the motor (6).
Rotation is prevented because the trapped rotor (7) is connected to the motor
shaft via the splined hub which is keywayed to the motor shaft.
By applying DC voltage to the magnetic call (10) the magnetic force pUlis the
friction plate (8) back across the air gap (2) against the spring (9) resistance
towards tile magnetic stator thus releasing the rotor (7) allowing rotation of the
motor shaft
The spring loaded brake imposes no axial forces on the Euromotor
MANUAL RELEASE
The brake can be equipped with ahand release which can be mounted SUbsequently
as an optional extra.
RUST PROOF VERSION
For extreme conditions the brakes may be supplied with stainless steel friction
plates which prevents the danger of the brake lining rusting onto the friction
plate or the armature and is particularly suitable for use in the open air or in
conditions of high humidity.
We also recommend this version if the EUROMOTORS have to be stored for
lengthy periods.
BRAKE SPECIFICATION
MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT OF BRAKE
The spring loaded brakes require very little maintenance. It is recommended to
periodically check the air gap (2) to ensure brake release. If necessary the air
gap (2) can be adjusted according to the table below.
Dependent upon size and make of EUROMOTOR the following brake would
normally be fitted
To ensure you receive the correct parts, please specify all information from the
brake together with EUROMOTOR serial numbers
On delivery the brakes are adjusted to the torque Mk and are ready for operation.

IP PROTECTION CLASSIFICATION
Below is a graphic chart showing how the IP ratings are indicated, The first column
shows enclosure protection against solid objects, the second, protection against
liquids and the third column, protection against mechanical impact. This figure is not
specified by BSI, but some enclosures are shown with this figure as afurther indication
to suitability
IP protection is a system which indicates the degree of protection against the
ingress of dust and liquids within enclosures. IP protection is an international
standard which conforms with IEC34-5 EN60034-5. It should be noted that
water-proof, splash-proof, IP55 or any other description of protection against
the ingress of dust and liquids does not mean corrosion resistant.
NOTE: Steel boxes are not suitable for use in wet or corrosive environments, Where they are used then the best possible finish should be specified and followed up with aregUlar
maintenance programme,
