Holiday Maintenance Tips




Did you know that your heater is powered by your hot water heater? After a
long, hot shower your heat might not be as warm for awhile.
Be sure to check your heaters now, before it gets cold!
Before all of your holiday cooking, check to make sure your appliances are all
working correctly.
DO NOT PUT DOWN THE GARBAGE DISPOSAL: coffee grounds, egg shells,
large chunks of anything, bones, starchy/stringy vegetables, pasta/rice, oil/
grease, or any non-food items.

Are you the next Michelle Kwan?
We know ice skating is a beloved pastime in the winter season. And although we don’t have our own personal ice skating rink (we wanted to
freeze the pool over, but we realize our lap-swimming residents need to get
their exercise in), there are some great options in San Diego for a really fun
time!
Here are some of our best recommendations:
Skating by the Sea at the Hotel Del Coronado is extremely popular and is a very unique experience, getting to
ice-skate with an ocean view!
There is a huge ice skating rink at Sea World in a winter wonderland right next to Shamu!
Take the 8 east for a bit for the Viejas Outlet skating rink and do some shopping and maybe a little gambling,
just don’t bet your rent money!
The most popular urban rink is downtown at Horton Square right behind Horton Plaza. It’s not huge but it a
perfect thing to accommodate a fun day shopping and exploring downtown.
Other great options are at the UTC Mall, Kroc Center Salvation Army, and the San Diego Ice Arena.
December Nights At Balboa Park—Dec. 4th & 5th
Balboa Park December Nights, the nation’s premier holiday festival, will take place for the 35th
consecutive year on Friday, Dec. 4, 3-11pm, and Saturday, Dec. 5, noon-11pm. As always, the event
brings families and friends together to spread holiday joy, learn more about the cultural value of
Balboa Park and kick-off the “most wonderful time of the year.”
Entertainment, wonderful food and holiday cheer are all part of this classic and elaborate San Diego
celebration. Long-standing traditions include food from around the globe at the International
Christmas Festival at other House of Pacific Relations Cottages; the charming Santa Lucia
Procession at the San Diego Museum of Man; unique gift shopping at the museum stores and with
the artisans of Spanish Village; and musical and dance presentations from the San Diego Junior
Theatre, San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, Del Cerro Baptist’s Christmas
Story Tree, and more.
