Principal’s Message
Dear Los Paseos Panther Families, Happy November! This week was busy with parent/teacher conferences and minimum days. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to attend this important meeting to hear about your child’s progress in school. Hopefully you received a note home last week containing an overview about Common Core and report card standards. Here is a short recap: •

A Note from Mrs. Johana Garcia,
Community Liaison
ELAC English Language Advisory Committee/Comité Consultivo de Aprendices del Idioma Ingles Congratulations to our 2014-‐2015 ELAC Representatives! ¡Felicidades a nuestro comité 2014-‐2015! Report cards are standards-‐based. This means that students are expected to perform proficiently on all grade level standards by the end of the current school year. Standards spiral and build throughout the year. Report card grades are based on assessments and assignments completed over the course of a trimester. Common Core State Standards are considered a monumental change across the nation. Most importantly to remember, transition takes time. Los Paseos and Morgan Hill Unified School District continue to make instructional choices with best intentions for all students. The shifts taking place in the way students are thinking and applying new concepts are commendable. All staff are using Common Core curriculum and teachers are receiving professional development with a focus on classroom implementation. A huge THANK YOU to the Los Paseos Home & School Club and parent volunteers who helped to make the Color Run Walk-‐a-‐Thon a huge success! All panther students enjoyed themselves and the weather was beautiful. Most importantly, thank you for your participation in our school fundraisers to help make Los Paseos the best it can be! NEWSFLASH! You will notice some construction happening around campus in coming weeks. Currently, preparation is taking place on campus as Los Paseos will be receiving a new blacktop! Major construction will take place over the Thanksgiving break. We are hoping to have minimal disruption during school days, however, we know that having a safe blacktop free of debris is a necessity to ensure student safety. Many thanks to Morgan Hill Unified School District for deciding to move forward with this project this year! Wishing you a wonderful beginning of the holiday season. Music Teacher
Extraordinaire
We have had a busy musical December. Our amazing 6th graders have returned to playing recorders. I am so pleased with all the knowledge of note values and musical terms they have retained from last year. AND, many of our youngsters have discovered the relationship of fractions and rhythm. I have attended middle school and high school band concerts featuring Morgan Hill Unified students. I have seen former Los Paseos students playing percussion, woodwind and brass instruments. One young lady is even playing the French horn…another young man now plays the tuba. To think they began on recorders! Our younger students have been filling our classroom with the sounds of the seasons—from “Dreydl” to “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree.” I always tell them “if I see you at Target, I want to see you singing with the holiday songs!” A Reminder, Machado Historical Society presents “Caroling by Candlelight” at the old Machado School in Morgan Hill. We will gather at 5:30 PM on Sunday, December 21st to sing traditional carols. Candles and cookies are provided and all families are welcome. Thank you for an amazing year filled with music!
