Dear Guests, I would like to personally thank each of you for coming out and showing your support for our FFA students at Sandy High School. The mission of the Sandy FFA Alumni is to support our local FFA program and students. FFA is a program, although focused on agriculture, that helps build students into future leaders. Not only as leaders in FFA but in their schools and in our communities. We want students that are not only active in FFA but are also proficient in academics and who give back to their communities. Your being here tonight helps us in providing that support. As a former FFA member myself and father to a past member and two current members, I can say that FFA is unlike any other organization out there. I have experienced and witnessed firsthand what this organization can do for our youth. It gives them the confidence and skills to excel in anything they put their mind to. Over the last three years the Sandy FFA Alumni has awarded over $30,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors to help them pursue their dreams. This year we will be awarding over $10,000 to graduating seniors of the class of 2014. All of tonight’s net proceeds will go to support our local scholarships. I am confident that we have a fun evening planned for all of you. I hope everyone enjoys themselves and has a good time. If you have any questions or needs please ask one of the Alumni members wearing the blue shirts for help. Tom Rutledge, President Sandy FFA Alumni Association We grow leaders! Statewide agvocating scholarship Some of our corporate sponsors desired a larger pool of students for their support dollars. The alumni created a scholarship that is offered to all Oregon FFA seniors based on need and plans to advocate for agriculture. In administering this scholarship the alumni has been able to see vo-ag program students from across the state and it has turned into a great program resource for new ideas. This scholarship is currently supported by four sponsors who have committed to the program for five years! -Thank you. Thank You to our corporate sponsors! Sandy FFA Alumni and Supporters In FFA I have learned the meaning of service; I have experienced the struggles that come with leadership. I have been challenged by the labor of hard work, gained knowledge, communication, and cooperation. The FFA has blessed me with the opportunity to travel all over the state of Oregon as well as to our nations beautiful capital, Washington D.C.. These experiences are more than simple memories, they are the moments of my life that have built me into the person I am today. I have been told by people that have simply seen me wearing my FFA jacket that “your future is as bright as the yellow emblem on your back”. The competitions I have participated in and the training that I have received from the FFA have without a doubt prepared me for many different real world experiences that I am sure to face. To most people the letters FFA mean agriculture, hard work, and pride. To me they mean that and so much more, they mean I have the light of my bright future to share for the rest of my life thanks to the FFA and the FFA Alumni. As I travel around Oregon, the United States and prepare to travel to South Africa in January representing the Oregon FFA Association as their State Vice President I look back and am so grateful that Sandy has such an active Alumni. The alumni has been there every step of the way. They have provided support in so many ways to me and other students and to our adviser Mrs. Smith. There are so many things that myself and other members would not have had the opportunity to experience if it had not been for the Alumni being there to help. I want to thank each of you for coming out and supporting the FFA and the FFA Alumni. I also want to encourage you to continue to support and possibly join the FFA Alumni. Even if you never wore the “blue jacket” you can still be a member of this amazing organization. Sincerely, Sarah K. Rutledge Vice President Oregon FFA Association ..
