This has been an amazing year of growth for CARE and The John 3:16 Center. God has provided
some amazing opportunities for our organization, increasing our capacity to serve children and
families in our community. It is wonderful to see Him at work and to have the support of His people as
we move to follow His will! Please keep our organization, its staff, board, and volunteers in prayer as
we research and prepare for future development. We desire wisdom, discernment, attentiveness to
the direction of our Lord as we investigate opportunities and make decisions.
Summer has been busy at The John 3:16 Center. Five weeks of summer camp have passed, with
many children coming to our facility and learning about our world and the God who made it. We have
also held cooking classes, begun work on a new volunteer program, and had Design Day for our new
playground!

In this newsletter, you’ll “meet” this year’s camp counselors and see what some of the children had to
say about Camp J316. We truly appreciate the support of our many sponsors that make this program
possible. You will also see information about our upcoming playground build. This opportunity to have
a safety-certified playground in Littleton that “our” children helped to design is exciting and inspiring.
Rev. Joe Sandoval
Robert Hayes
Rev. Stan Lewis
We hope to have many of you come out to volunteer for Prep Day and/or Build Day; it will be exciting
to see the new playground go up in one day (with 300 volunteers!), with a single day of prep work
(done by 30 volunteers!) prior to the build. If you’re interested in seeing the playground design, stop
by the Center and we’d be happy to show you the one the children chose! Of course, there is a lot of
work going on in the background to make this possible, so be on the lookout for our fundraisers and
volunteer drives!

We are preparing for our fall and winter activities as we work toward closing out the summer. School
supplies and uniforms will be accepted beginning July 29th; this school supply drive will help prepare
approximately 200 children for a successful school year. Our annual Labor Day weekend yard sale
will be held at Littleton Baptist on August 31st. Donations of saleable items are being accepted; see
page 4 for further details and consider volunteering to help set up on the 30th or operate the sale on
the 31st!

Homework Club will begin again on September 9th; consider volunteering for this program. It is an
excellent opportunity to mentor and assist children! Our volunteers are greatly appreciated. Without
them, we would not be able to maintain our facility, grounds, or accomplish half as much through our
programs on our budget. There are many different ways in which to volunteer; please contact us if
you are interested in supporting our programs in this way.

As you keep us in prayer, please join us in praising God that He has enabled us to serve Him and
meet the needs of many throughout the first half of this year. Pray also for His guidance as we begin
planning and budgeting for 2014 in the coming months, as well as continuing our program
evaluations for strategic planning.

Meet our Summer Camp J316 Counselors!
Hello, my name is T.J. Curl. I am a 2nd Classman at VMI– Virginia Military
Institute. This is my 6th summer as a summer camp counselor at the John 3:16
Center. This summer like those of the past, I find it to be a great blessing to be
able to come back to work everyday where I am able to share the words of
Jesus Christ in a fun and safe environment.
Hi, my name is Kimberly May. I will be a sophomore at NC State
University this fall. I am studying human biology and plan to go to medical
school. This is my first year as a camp counselor at the John 3:16 Center. I
have really enjoyed the children, and I love teaching them about God.
Hello, my name is Alex Boone. I attend North Carolina A&T State University,
where I am studying Graphic Communications Systems (GCS). This is my second
year being a camp counselor at the center. I enjoy working with the kids. There is
no greater feeling than seeing them happy. God is a loving God and He put me in
this great environment for a reason.
Hi, my name is Natarshia Corley and I'm currently a psychology major at
Winston-Salem State University. As a child, I attended both the after school
program and summer camp at The John 3:16 Center. When presented with
the opportunity to become a counselor, I thought it would be a great
opportunity and a fun experience. As I continue my journey, I know God is
sticking close by me and all the things I learned as a child at the John 3:16
Center has helped me to remember God and always keep my faith.
Hey, y’all! My name is Caitlyn Jenkins. This is my 3rd year as a John 3:16 Center
day camp counselor. I am currently attending East Carolina University and I will
begin my junior year this fall. The children at camp have inspired me to pursue a
career in Elementary Education. I am so passionate about sharing God’s love with
the children at camp and showing them just how special they are!
A Few Words From the KiDs…
Dear Sponsors, I loved what you did to make me enjoy John 3:16. I like what we did like play games and learning about god and
and moses and Jesus. I even loved how I learned about the Ten Commandments. I hope you love my letter. You are a star.
Love, R. M.
Dear Sponsors, Thank you for helping the John 3:16 Center Camp be possible. I learned about how we can talk to God by praise
prayer. I enjoyed going Halifax Historical. I learned about the History of Halifax. Once again, thank you for making John 3:16
possible.
Sincerely, M.S.
Dear Sponsor, Thank you for letting me go to camp and and I love you. Thank you for the summer camp so we will have
something to do on the summer The Bible book that we read is good to read.
The End. –J.H.
Dear Sponsor, Thank you. I had a good time this summer at John 3:16. It was fun at summer camp and at bible school I learned
about God, Jesus, Moses, Elijah, and other people. I also learned about the mountains like Mount Sinai, Carmel, and the
Transfiguration. I also learned that praying is talking to God about everything.
Love, M.M.
