My family were one of thousands who migrated to Melbourne from Greece in the 1950’s
and 60’s. Although I was born an ‘Aussie’, the culture and traditions of my ancestors run
through my blood, and my passion for the country and its people have long been an integral
part of my life and thus, my business too.
The Greek heritage is reflected in every quaint little town in Naxos, every brightly coloured
church dome in Mykonos, and in every cobble-stoned street Plaka (Old Town Athens).
Greece’s rich history stands as proud as its iconic Acropolis of Athens, as it does with
magnificently well-preserved Castle of the Knights of St. John on the island of Rhodes in
the Dodekanese.
Where else can you find the sweet smell of jasmine blending with the salty taste of the sea
as you walk through traditional, narrow alleyways? Where can you still find islands which
have stood still in time, with no cars or motorbikes permitted, and where the local mode of
transportation is still the local donkey? And where do you find the most stunning volcanic
caldera views that exude romance beyond your deepest desires?

After a lunch break travel through Argos and head to Nauplia, the
first capital of modern Greece with its Venetian fortress. Continue on
to Epidaurus and visit the ancient theatre.
This UNESCO World Heritage listed monument is reputed to be the
birthplace of Apollo’s son Asklepios. Epidaurus is most famous for its
theatre, one of the best preserved classical Greek buildings and still
used today due to its amazing acoustics. Return to Athens in the late
afternoon.

An easy walking tour with your own professional guide, explore the
city’s rich ancient past and visit the world-famous Acropolis. Start at
Syntagma Square and see the Monument to the Unknown Soldier
guarded by the traditional Evzones. On the hour, you can also see the
changing of the guards. Visit the beautiful Byzantine churches Sotira
of Lycodimos and Kottakis Church.
Walk back into the age of Socrates, Pericles, Themistocles, Aristides,
Kimon and so many other important figures who shaped Greek
Philosophy.
On our way to the south-eastern slope of the Acropolis, we see the
Theatre of Dionysos, the Conservatory of Herod of Attica and stand
on the foot of the Filopappos Hill where Socrates is believed to have
been imprisoned. Head towards the Hill of Pnyka, where meetings of
the assembly of the city were held. Stroll through the Plaka’s paved streets before arriving the Acropolis.
Enter the Sanctuary of Dionysos and Dionysos Theatre built in the
5th century BC. Your knowledgeable guide will give you a detailed
explanation of the glorious monuments of the Acropolis such
including the Parthenon, the Erectheion, the Propylaia, Temple of
Nike, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Observatory and the lovely
Philopappos Hill.
As the Temple of Hephaestus gradually appears before us, we
continue to the Ancient Agora, closely connected to the array of
public and political life in ancient Athens, as well as to education and
philosophy. Visit the museum that is housed in the Attalos Colonade,
and see unique exhibits from the everyday life of ancient Athenians.

If you are a lover of history, museums and Byzantine churches then
this is the tour for you.
Start at Keramikos, the city’s ancient cemetery. See the Old City Walls
including Dipylon Gate and the Sacred Gate.
Continue to the Ancient Agora, the political and cultural centre of the
Athenian city-state, where philosophy and democracy were born and
flourished.
Your walking tour begins with a visit to the Byzantine Museum of
Athens founded in 1914. The collections within the museum show
the course of Greek art from the 4th to the 19th century. These
works represent the artistic production of the Greek area, and other
regions both, central and peripheral, of the Byzantine Empire and,
subsequently, of Hellenism on into post-Byzantine times.
Visit the 19th century Observatory and the Hill of Pnyx, important
meeting points for democratic assemblies and philosophical dialogue
in the classical period. Continue onto Filopappou Hill, also known as
the Hill of the Muses, from where the shell that destroyed the roof of
the Parthenon was fired.
Continue with a visit to the famous Benaki Museum which houses
Greek works of art from the pre-historic to modern times. Walk back
to Plaka and visit two of the most famous Byzantine churches in the
city – the Church of Sotiria Of Lycodimos and Kottakis Church. Your
tour concludes in this most auspicious area of the city.
Visit Benaki Museum’s collection of Islamic art which ranks among
the most important in the world, with artefacts from India, Persia,
Mesopotamia, Asia Minor, the Middle East and North Africa.

For those who have limited time, take a one-day cruise to the pretty
Saronic Islands of Hydra, Poros and Aegina. With all your transport,

In Poros, admire the very special architecture and dramatic
landscapes of this island, whose old traditional stone houses and
mansions silently stand witness to a long and turbulent history.
In Aegina, you may like to join an optional excursion to the Temple of
Aphaia or take a walk around the main town.
The unique island Hydra permits no motorised vehicles, so the only
mode of transportation here is on foot, or by local donkey!

Sailing into white and blue Cyclades, take an
optional visit to tiny Delos (UNESCO World
Heritage site), mythical birthplace of the gods
Apollo and Artemis. Later today we head into
a beautiful bay for a refreshing swim stop and
lunch, weather permitting, before continuing

Set sail for Poros in the afternoon, and later

Morning arrival in Poliegos, a very small island

to Folegandros, one of the most amazing and

At day break we leave Mykonos and arrive
at the quaint island of Tinos, where we dock
at Ysternia for a swim and a barbeque.

After a short walking tour of Nafplion,

Early morning arrival at Gythion. Excursion to
Mani Peninsula and Cape Tenaro, including

drive to nearby Areopolis for a short stroll
through the town. Overnight at sea heading

Pylos (Excursion)
Pylos, the picture-perfect seaside town on
the southwest corner of the Peloponnese.
Visit the pre-historic Nestor’s Palace,
following which we make the short trip
to the town of Hora where a superb
archaeological museum holds thousands of
artefacts recovered from the site. Overnight

Katakolon / Olympia (Excursion)
Early morning arrival in Katakolon. Travel by
coach to Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic
Games. See the magnificently preserved,
original Olympic Stadium. Explore the
Temple of Hera, and the Temple of Zeus the

Philippeion, lodging place for the athletes
who participated in the games. Take in the
Olympia Museum. After lunch in town, visit
the Museum of the History of the Olympic
Games of Antiquity. Travel overland to Patras
on the north coast of the peninsula where

Itea / Delphi (Excursion)
Visit Delphi which, in ancient times, was
the premier site for the worship of the god
Apollo through his Oracle. Time to explore

Discover Cyprus at a glance and visit quaint
villages. Take in Choirokoitia one of the
archaeological sites on the island of Cyprus
dating from the Neolithic age.
UNESCO World Heritage Listed Site since
1998, the site is known as one of the most
important and best preserved prehistoric
sites in the eastern Mediterranean.
Head to Menoiko Village to visit Ayios
Kyprianos Church dating back to the 13th
century and housing the relics of the saint to
whom it is dedicated.
Continue to Galata Village and visit Panagia
Podithou Church, another UNESCO World
Heritage Site. Next, onto the picturesque
mountain village of Kakopetria.
Enjoy free time for lunch and a stroll through
the old village. Before returning to Paphos,
pass by the village of Ayios Nicolaos and visit
a local winery.
Visit Nicosia, also known as the divided
city, and cross the UN-controlled border
called the Green Line that divides the
North from the South. Cyprus’ capital is a
buzzing hub of old and new. Your guide will
give you its history as you explore its best.
Heading onto Kyrenia, see the magnificent
Bellapais Monastery high in the Pentadktylos
Mountains and enjoy incredible views along
the coast. Spend some time at Kerynia, stroll
the harbor and perhaps a coffee or lunch at
at local store. Driving back to Nicosia, cross
the border before heading back to Limassol.

Drive through the Troodos Mountain range
and see the green heart of Cyprus. Visit
the tomb of Makarios and the Monastery at
Kykkos, founded in the Byzantine Age and
known for its wealth of treasures. Travelling
high in the pine-clad Troodos Mountains,
you’ll find the ornately-decorated Kykkos
Monastery. The journey into the Troodos
Mountains is truly spectacular. Pass through
small villages and get a glimpse of traditional
Cypriot life. Your guide will fill your day with
plenty of stories and unravel the history of
Cyprus, piece by piece.
DAY 1
Set out this morning with a visit to the Church
of Saint Lazaros built in the 9th century,
before taking in Haltan Sultan Tekke, one of
the most important pilgrim sites for Muslims
after Mecca and Medina. See the Church
of Angeloktisti at Kiti Village with its unique
golden mosaic from the 6th century. Enjoy
lunch in Larnaca at Zephyros Restaurant
before spending some time strolling the city.

DAY 2
Nicosia, the last divided city, awaits you
today. Visit the Cathedral of Saint John and
its adjacent Museum. Walk to the Dividing
Line and cross over to visit the Cathedral of
Saint Sofia in the occupied area built in the
14th century, now a mosque. Enjoy lunch in a
local tavern, “Anama”, in Ledras Street. Visit
the Cyprus Museum with exhibits from all
over Cyprus. Overnight in Nicosia. (B/L)
DAY 3
Visit two UNESCO World Heritage listed
churches today, the Church of Panagia
Asinou, and the Church of Panagia Podithou.
Head to Kakopetria Village and enjoy lunch
at Pedoulas at Two Flowers Taverna. Visit
the Kykkos Monastery the most important
monastery in Cyprus built in the 11th
century. Overnight at the magnificent Casale
Panayiotis, a traditional old home, now
restored and receiving guests. (B/L)

DAY 4
Enjoy a trip to Agros Village where we will
visit some local masons still using traditional
methods to create their wares. Head to
one of Cyprus’ oldest factories, which still
produces traditional Cypriot sweets. Lunch
will be taken at Omodos Village at the lovely
Katoi Restaurant. Stroll around the village and
see the oldest wine press. Enjoy wine tasting
and visit the Monastery of the Holy Cross
built in the 17th century before heading to
Limassol to overnight. (B/L)
DAY 5
Head to Paphos today and visit the ancient
Kingdom of Kourion and the birthplace of
Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love.
Lunch at Romeo’s Tavern before visiting
the Tombs of the Kings and the Mosaics of
Paphos. Return to Limassol and overnight.

DAY 6
Visit the medieval Castle of Limassol, where
King Richard the Lionheart married in
1191, and which now houses a selection of
medieval artefacts. Drive to Lefkara Village
before returning to Larnaca, where our tour
ends.

This morning, visit the Monastery of Agia
Napa and the sea caves at Cape Greco.
Time permitting, we may also take in the

walls, and the Cathedral of St. Nicholas built
in the 14th century and now a mosque.

Today we head to Nicosia and cross the
dividing line to visit the occupied city of
Kerynia. Visit the castle by the harbor,
erected during the Byzantine period. Within
it, we visit the museum with the shipwreck
from the Hellenistic period found at the
Harbor of Kerynia. Enjoy a light lunch in this
delightful town before heading to Bellapais
Abbey, an old monastery built in the Frankish
period. Continue onto Nicosia and visit
the Cathedral of Saint Sophia. Walk to the
dividing line and walk across to Laiki Yitonia,
the old city of Nicosia. (B/L)
DAY 3
Visit the Cathedral of Saint John and the
Byzantine Museum before heading to
Lefkara Village, famous for its lace. Enjoy
lunch at Vavatsinia Village before heading
to the historic Macheras Monastery with its
beautiful church, built in the 12th century.
Travel through Ficardou traditional village
a traditional village with its authentic
architecture before overnighting in Agros

DAY 4
Today, enter some of the most important
UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the
church of Panagia Tou Araka in Lagoudera
Village, and Panagia Podithou Church. Enjoy
lunch in Galata at Vengeras Restaurant.
See the traditional sweets workshop in
Agros Villageas, as well as the rose factory.

DAY 5
See the traditional village of Kakopetria
and the UNESCO church of Agios Nicolaos
built in the 11th century. Onto the famous
Kykkos Monastery before enjoying lunch
at the Pavilion Restaurant attached to the

Valley. Visit Chrysorogiatisa Monastery in

The Roman mosaics at the Harbor of Paphos
await you today, as do the UNESCO-listed
Tombs of the Kings. Visit Saint Paul’s
Pillar and have lunch at Kouklia Village
at Thanasis Tavern before heading to the
ancient Kingdom of Kourion, the house of
Efstolios and the Theatre. See too the Castle
of Kolossi build by the Knights of Saint John
of Jerusalem. Continue onto Limassol and

Farewell the beautiful island of Cyprus today,
with a transfer from Limassol to Larnaca

By paying your deposit, we understand tat you have read and accept
these conditions.
DEPOSIT & BALANCE: A non-refundable deposit of $250 per person
within 7 days of booking. Balance is due 45 days prior to departure
from the country of origin. Reservations made within 30 days of
departure require a guarantee of full payment at the time of booking.
AIRFARES: Minimum $500 per person land/cruise content from
Touchdown Tours brochures must be purchased to be eligible for
wholesale fares. All airfare conditions must be adhered to.
AIRLINE SCHEDULES: Airline’s schedules are subject to change
with resultant changes in holiday itineraries and durations which could
involve passengers in additional costs.
PASSPORTS, VISAS, VACCINATIONS & BAGGAGE: Your travel
agent will have full details of current requirements. These conditions
change without notice and it is the passenger’s responsibility to ensure
they comply with regulations.
AMENDMENT FEES: Any amendment of itinerary by clients after
acceptance will incur amendment fees. After full payment, changes
will incur a fee of $75 per person in addition to any fees charged by
suppliers.
CANCELLATIONS: Written instructions only will be accepted to
cancel reservations. Cancellations outside 45 days of departure:
Deposit will be forfeited. Cancellations between 44 – 22 days of
departure : 30% of the total booking, or full deposit, whichever is
higher. Cancellations between 21 – 14 days of departure: 50% of
the total booking, or full deposit, whichever is higher. Cancellations
within 14 days or less of departure: 100% of the total booking. Above
penalties are in addition to fees charged by suppliers.
INSURANCE: We strongly recommend full insurance against
cancelation charges, baggage loss, medical and other unforeseen
expenses.
UNUSED SERVICES: No refund is given for services not utilized.
Hotels specified in the brochure may be altered for similar if necessary.
NOT INCLUDED IN TOUR PRICE: All items of a personal nature,
such as telephone calls, laundry, beverages, excess baggage,
gratuities etc.
CRUISES: Fully air-conditioned cruise ships, all cabins with private
facilities. Rates based on a minimum rate of two lower-berth inside
cabins. Cruise company reserves the right to alter itineraries and/or
change vessels should this become necessary without prior notice.
Touchdown Tours will not be held accountable for such changes
RESPONSIBILITY: Touchdown Tours and/or their agents give
notice that all tickets, vouchers and coupons issued by them and all
arrangements for transport, conveyance or hotel accommodation
made by them are made by them as agents for the passenger, upon
the express condition that they shall not be liable for any injury or
damage which may be occasioned by reason of defect in any vehicle
or through the acts of default of any vehicle, or through acts of default
of any company or person engaged in conveying the passenger, or
in carrying out the arrangements of the tour otherwise in connection
therewith, or of any guest-house or hotel proprietor or employee.
The aforesaid carrier and/or agents can accept no responsibility for
losses or accidental expenses due to delay or changes in schedules,
hotel overbooking or defaults, sickness, weather, strikes, war,
quarantine or other causes. All such losses or expenses will have to be
borne by the passengers.
Baggage is at owner’s risk throughout the tour. Small articles (coats,
wraps, umbrellas etc.) are entirely under the care of the passengers.
The right is reserved to decline to accept or return any person as a
member of any tour or to cancel the tour. All tours and arrangements
in this brochure are subject to the General Conditions as specified by
each individual supplier such as Touchdown Tours and pertaining to
ground transportation, meals, sightseeing, luggage, tips and taxes,
deposits and cancellations. Items of a personal nature, such as
laundry, wines, mineral waters, passport fees, airport taxes etc. are
not included in tour prices.
Airlines are responsible only for the air travel portion of this programme
in accordance with the terms and conditions of their individual passage
contracts and are subject to applicable laws, treaties and regulations
governing air transportation.The aforementioned conditions shall also
apply in regard to any other means of transportation in connection
with the programme.
The usual passage contract is used by airlines and the passengers
and, in purchasing a passage contract as part of this programme,
the passenger acknowledges and accepts the foregoing conditions
Airlines are not to be held responsible for any act, omission or event
during the time passengers are not on board their aircraft. Passenger
travelling on fares which have restricted conditions must at all times
comply with these conditions.
All prices quoted are current at the time of printing. Should the
