May - Jerseypine Cruisers
May
2013
The Monthly Newsletter of the Jerseypine Cruisers Motorcycle Touring Club
EDITOR’S CORNER
Well May, and the warmer weather it promises, finds our club calendar quite a bit fuller than recent months.
In addition to the weekly breakfast runs May is the month we hold the first camping weekend of the year, the
Spring Campout. On the cover we feature a photo from my private collection. Inside we have Sandy McCall's
first newsletter article as President, we have Joyce's belated April article as well as blips from Linda, Lynn and
Candi. We also have an article from Joe concerning the Ice Cream Run.
WARNING: If you don’t remember to send me your articles, trip reports and photos I will be forced to fill up
any excess newsletter blank space with photos from my past vacations. You have been warned (see below).
Proof positive that my wife has actually ridden with me on a motorcycle.

April showers have brought few riding hours. What
a miserable riding month it has been between the
rain and the cool temperatures. It can only be an
indication that better riding weather is on the way.
I am happy to report that Mike O'Malley is doing
well after his surgery and we wish him continuing
health so he can be riding with us soon. The first
rounds of chemo for Tom Kearney has gone well
and we hope the future treatment will continue to
go well for him. It's been great that he has been
able to join us some Sundays at McDonalds.
The Cruisers have always been concerned about
their members and their families. One of the goals
of the 2013 Board is to stay connected with the
membership and to provide information to the
membership. To help us stay connected, if a Cruiser
or a family member is hospitalized or there is a
death in the family, please let me know so that I
can get the word out. To provide information about
the motorcycling community and events happening
in Des Plaines, Linda Czyz, the Community
Relations VP will be talking about motorcycle
events in the area at the meetings. If there is event
information you wish to share, please contact
Linda. Also, if Cruisers are involved in a charity
event for a church or service organization, such as
a pancake breakfast or spaghetti dinner, give the
details to Linda and the information will be
disseminated at a meeting.
I heard the "Ice Cream Run" put on by Joe Fiedler
was delicious, although only the leader had ice
cream. Too bad the morning started out so cool
and damp or I know there would have been more
participants. See Joe's report in this newsletter.
Coming in May, we will be leaving early for
"Breakfast at the Airport" on May 5th. Departure
will be at 8:00 AM from the Hoffman Estates
McDonalds and Joe Fiedler will lead a 60 mile non-
stop ride to the Rockford for the Fly-In Breakfast.
Later in May we have the first campout of the
riding season. We will once again be at Crazy Horse
Campground in Brodhead, WI on May 17th-19th.
Steve Mendel has great ride planned through the
countryside on Saturday. It is Veteran's weekend at
the campground so all veterans will have free
camping. For all the details, check the flyer on the
website and join Steve and Ken in Brodhead. We
will close out May with the "Memorial Day" event
chaired by George Gauss and co-chaired by Mike
Lisciandrello. The group will be leaving "our"
McDonalds at 7:00 AM and will visit several
cemeteries to honor those who have served our
country. And finely, if you are hungry for a great
cinnamon roll and in the mood for a great day ride,
join Frank Wenzon and Ken Vicker for the
"Cinnamon Roll Ride" on June 1st. Be sure to call
Frank or Ken to pre-order your cinnamon roll(s).
The rolls got rave reviews last year from those that
had them at the Spring Campout.
With all these events coming up, I'll be seeing you
on the road...let's go for a ride.
Sandy

what exactly are the others here for?

beginning, by the time we left for home, it was
sunny and almost 60 degrees. Eleven avid and
fearless riders joined me on my quest for April Ice
Cream, which left from the McDonalds in Hoffman
Estates promptly @ 10 am. We withered our way
through the western burbs on a 130-mile roundtrip route to the Clubhouse in Roscoe, Il. The
intension was to have ice cream but after arriving,
Flo managed to twist our arms and convinced us all
to have pizza you know how those redheads have a
way of getting their way. OH yea!!!!! like the
Cruiser’s had to be talked into it….they have very
good pizza.
It was an NO U-turn, eventless, and fun route and
on the way home, we journeyed past the Illinois
Railway Museum that brought back memories from
long ago. Since I was the only one to partake of the
ice cream endeavor, I guess we will just have to
return another day.
Thanks all who joined me for what turned out to be
a "great day to ride”.

Thank you to all the members who acquiesced to
serve as an Individual Involvement Director. Thank
you guys, and their gals, for donating even more
time to our club!
With his own award-winning friendliness, Hermin
Velazquez is serving as the director of Awards &
Recognition. He’ll have an easy job spotting the JPC
members who go the extra mile for the club
because he's one that sets a good example. Thanks,
Hermin!
Last month's F.A.C.E. Run
Vice-President Reports
Greetings from Lido Key Beach, Florida! Right
now the sun is setting over the Gulf of Mexico.
Being here to enjoy the sun, sand, and beautiful
sunsets is a blessing that will not soon be
forgotten. Right here, right now, it really can’t
get any better than this!
By the time this goes to print, Ken and I will be
back in good (?) old Illinois and we hope it will be
much warmer than when we left. We are looking
forward to all the JPC events planned for this year
and know it’ll be a year filled with good times and
wonderful memories. Let's ride!!!
Lynn Vicker, Chapter Management VP

Wouldn’t you say it takes a colorful personality to
Guard the Colors of the Cruisers? Obvious choice?
Mike Lisciandrello. Wear those vest proudly, folks!
After all, “blue jeans” go with everything. On the
practical side, wearing the vest with your name
badge really helps those of us (me) who’s memory
can recall a face, however, forgets the name that
goes with the face. Thanks, Mike, for keeping the
JPCs visible out there.
Are you a Spark that makes things happen in the
club? Or, are you a Spoke that keeps us rolling
down the road? Well, the cool biker in the cool
blue helmet will be taking note. Rick and Flo
Tymczuk wear those cool blue helmets and it’s Rick
who is our new Spoke and Spark Director. When
attending a JPC ride or event, you would be helping
Rick out if you could double check to see that your
name is on the list of participants. Thanks, Rick, for
accepting the post.
The best for last? He is one of the best director out
there, but George Barrington is never last. Actually,
he’s the first guy you should ask for any news in
the motorcycling world. He’s also the guy any
prospective members need to talk to when they
want to officially join the JPCs. As our dedicated
Membership Director, George will continue to help
Mike with Color Guard, keep track of our Who’s
Who file, and, please, don’t forget to “show him
the money” when your dues are due! Don’t be
disrespectin’ the man, okay?
Thanks again, Directors.
Joyce Pavelko, Individual Involvement VP

A Reminder from your Secretary:
Baloney Burgers at G & R Bar in Waldo, OH, June 2008
This is just a quick note from your little ole’ JPC
Secretary needing some help:
I’m not always aware of member’s illnesses,
hospitalizations, and surgeries. Often, a member’s
health issue is announced during one of our meetings,
but by that time, he/she has been treated and has
recovered. I would greatly appreciate being informed
of these health “events” so that I can promptly send a
get well card from our membership!
=============================================
I thought about how mothers feed their babies with
tiny little spoons and forks, so I wondered what do
Chinese mothers use; Toothpicks?
==========================================
Just email me at [email protected] and I can mail
out a little cheer to our JPC buddy!
Candi Wenzon, Secretary
