Brad and I rode with several other chapter members in the benefit
ride for Officer Bryan Lawrence. There was a great turnout (more
than 1300 bikes!) of all different types to support a great cause.
The ride couldn’t have went any more smoothly for such a long ride
with so many bikes. All the police departments did a super job
blocking the intersections for us and once we started we never had
to stop. Once the ride was over, we had some great food from a
variety of restaurants and checked all the silent auction stuff. Hopefully the money raised for Officer Lawrence will continue to help him
and his family!

“ As I get ready to attend
the Benefit for Bryan
Lawrence I am reminded of the
fraility of our lives. Many of you
know Bryan from our work with him
and his Project Lifesaver. He is
dedicated to the service of his fellow
man that attitude was very much in
evident the day he was injured. As
human bearings we sometime go
through our lives with a feeling of
invincibility. The thought of being
hurt or killed never enters our mind.
It is just in our nature to go about our
daily lives not concerned about the
possibility of instant death or injury. I
believe that is a good thing, it allows
us to enjoy our many hobbies and
interests without reservation or fear.
I do try and enjoy every day and
celebrate each and everyone. When
I wake in the morning I give thanks
for another day and go forward. I
want to take a moment and reflect
on why HOG exists.
The club
provides an opportunity for those
with a common interest in Harley
Davidson motorcycles to come
together and share our passion with
like minded people. Our chapter
tries to provide many activities and
rides for all those
interested. In order to make these
activities as enjoyable as possible
for all members we are going to
be proactive in how we schedule and
organize events and rides moving
forward. From our casual Sunday
after breakfast rides to the more
formal events.
Taking into
consideration the skill level of all
participants is very important to
ensure the safety and fun for all.
Ride Leader training will be held
along with how to conduct both large
and small group rides. This will be
of benefit to all level of riders. As the
weather continues to improve,
please remember to take care of
your bike and yourself.
Ride Safe in 08.

Hey Everybody!
Things are heating up this
summer and the same holds true for
the LOH. Don’t forget to get your
money to Aubrey for our horseback
riding outing planned for the 28th of
June by the 21st of June.
Also, please plan to participate in the
Tri Chapter challenge on July 26th.
This is a chapter event and a trophy
goes to the chapter with the most
participants. We are riding to Buena
Vista to Glen Maury Park for lunch and
a head count. Lunch will cost $5.00
and will need to be paid in advance,
and is non refundable. The lunch
includes a sub sandwich from subway,
chips, cookie and drink. Please sign
up at the Hog Hall for the ride. There
is a sign up sheet on the table just as
you enter the hall. Additionally, please
pay your $5.00 for the meal to any
LOH member. We need all money and
participants names by July 19th so we
may order enough food for everyone.
We will depart from the HOG Hall and
details will follow.
The Biketober swap meet fund raiser
for Anthony Bowles and his family is
planned for September 27th 2008 at
Golds Gym, in North Roanoke beside
the DMV. We will have a poker run,
food, a raffle for a quilt, and Golds
gym is helping us by renting their
parking spaces to anyone who would
like to set up and sell your treasures to
each other and to the general public.
You keep the proceeds from your
sales and all parking lot rentals shall
be donated to the fund raiser. Please
sign up for the parking spaces at the
back table as you enter the hall…there
are only 70 spaces and they will go
fast at only $25.00 per space. So start
getting all your stuff together and
come on out for a fun and profitable
day!

OFFICERS’ CORNER
New Members Corner
Alice & Debbie
Hi Everybody, Alice here.
As you may know our next New Member Dinner is Thursday
6/26/08 at 6 pm. I want to encourage everyone to come out and
welcome our new members. I remember how welcome Owen and I
were made to feel when we first joined.
Historian
Bill Wilkonson
My June HOG stock dividend added about 1 1/3 shares of stock
to my pile. That's a kind of history on which I really like to reflect!
As a way to better get acquainted with each other we are asking
everyone to think about what first sparked your interest in riding and
share this with your fellow members.
For new members I encourage you to join in our activities. There
are a lot to choose from. And we love to ride and have fun, eat and
laugh.
So, I hope to see ya’ll on the 26th.

The new Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee will open to the
public on July 12.
The grandson of one of the founders of H-D, Willie G. Davidson, and his family,
unveiled a gift they are presenting to commemorate the new H-D Museum on
June 10 of this year. Willie G. Davidson, senior vice president and chief styling
officer for H-D, and his family gave a bronze sculpture of a motorcycle hill
climber which is one and one half times life size. The sculpture pays tribute to
motorcycle competition and enthusiast culture.
"The Harley-Davidson Museum means so much to me and my family that we
wanted to leave something permanent here as a gift," Willie G. Davidson said.
"We chose the hill climber as a subject because it portrays the thrill and adventure of the sport and because it portrays the thrill and adventure of the
sport and because of the important role motorcycle competition played in developing enthusiast culture."
The Davidson family asked Jeff Decker, a H-D licensed artist and motorcycle
enthusiast to design the sculpture. The piece will have a permanent home at
the end of Canal Street on the Museum grounds. It is designed with organic
shapes and lines to contrast with the industrial architecture of the Museum
and will be among the first things visitors see as they approach the Museum.
Access to the Museum grounds will be available free of charge at all times.
As a juicy tidbit, I offer that the traditional golden shovel was not used when
doing the groundbreaking for the Museum. Instead, legendary dirt track racer,
Scott Parker, rode a XL 883R Sportster to do a burnout and send dirt flying
from the rear tire of the bike.
The 130,000 H-D Museum is at 400 Canal Street and will exhibit hundreds of
motorcycles and artifacts. It will house a restaurant, cafe, retail shop, meeting
space, special events facilities, and the Motor Company's archives. You can
get more information about the Museum by going to www.h-dmuseum.com. If
you are making a trip to the museum, plan on being hungry when you visit so
you can eat at the restaurant or get something on the go from the cafe.

Hello Folks!
Summer has finally arrived so we can ride and
have fun! Just remember to stay alert and ride
defensively.
There are a few things that I need to rlate to the
membership about how our chapter operates.
First, you must ba member of National HOG before you can become a member of our local chapter. If you are a Full National member, you must be
a Full local member and the same applies to Associate members. I have recently not notified several
members that their National dues have expired. I
have no choice but to remove your name from our
local roster and the discount list at RVHD, if applicable. Please remember to renew you Nation dues
before they expire.
Some of my e-mails are being rejected by your
servers because I send messages to 40-50 member in each group. Therefore, you need to add my
e-mail address to your Address Book so you can
get my messages.
If you attend the VA State Hog Rally at Fredricksburg or any other state rally, please let me know so
I can add you points for the Member of the Year
contest. Also, be sure to sign the sign-in rosters at
each event so you ge points, too, and try to write
where I can read it.
If you are a new member, please do not hesitate
to ask questions-the phone numbers and e-mail
addresses of all of the officers are shown on page 7
of the newsletter. Get involved with the activities of
our chapter. You will make many new fiednds and
will enjoy being a part of our great chapter.
PLEASE remember to let me know if your mailing
address or e-mail address changes so I can update
my records.
If you have any ideas about how we can improve
our chapter, please don’t hesitate to voice your
opinion. We are always looking for new ideas!
REMEMBER< RIDE AND HAVE FUN!!!!
