14th Annual Golf Scramble Scheduled for June 17

Greene County Economic Development Corporation’s
14th annual golf scramble is scheduled for June 17 at
the Phil Harris Golf Course in Linton. The four-person
scramble is sure to provide a day full of fun, networking
and friendly competition. The cost is $50 per person
and includes green fees, cart rental and lunch. Team
sponsorships are available for $200. Businesses can
sponsor a hole for just $100, while event sponsorship
is available for a $250 minimum. If you’d like to register
for the event or sign up as an event sponsor or hole

With assistance from Greene County Economic Development Corporation’s revolving loan
fund, Totally Whipped Cupcakery opened its
doors for business in February and have been
selling out of cupcakes and cookies nearly
every day their doors are open.
A bakery offering cupcakes, cookies and
cakes ranging from basic to gourmet flavors,
Totally Whipped Cupcakery is located at 41
Northeast A Street in Linton. It’s owned by a
daughter and mother team — Brandy Brown
and Rhea
Linnewebber of Linton.
Totally Whipped Cupcakery offers more than
40 different flavors ranging from basic flavors
such as vanilla, chocolate and red velvet to
gourmet flavors such as cinnamon roll, peanut
butter and jelly, salted caramel, cookies and
cream and much more.
They’re open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and some Saturdays. When they open
the doors, a selection of six or more cupcakes
are up for grabs in the display case.
With graduation approaching, they are offering
a special — $12 per dozen for basic flavors.
Specialty orders for parties, catering events
and more can be placed at anytime.

Did You Know: Indiana ranks 2nd in the nation in popcorn production producing roughly 151
million pounds of shelled popcorn annually. That's more than 20% of the country's popcorn
supply. In a typical year, nearly half of all cropland in Indiana is planted in corn.

Did You Know: In March 1990, a woodworking class at Shakamak High School built the
world's largest yo-yo. With the assistance of a crane, students watched as the yo-yo went up
and down 12 times. The yo-yo, which spent some time on display at The Children's Museum
of Indianapolis, weighed 820 pounds and was six feet in diameter. It was listed in the
1991 Guiness Book of World Records.

Did You Know: At the first meeting of the Greene County Commissioners in 1821 a seal was
adopted with a heart in the center, surrounded by an olive branch. Thus, Greene County
started out with an emblem of peace and safety stamped upon her official papers.

In January, GCEDC administrative assistant, Halea Franklin
and board member, Amy Lore
attended the 2016 Indiana
Economic Development Course
at Ball State University in
Muncie. The intensive, weeklong course provided a great
deal of information pertaining to
economic and community
development. Congratulations to
Halea and Amy for completing
this course!

Welcome new board members
We’d like to extend a warm welcome to our
newest board members, Cullen McCarty and
Amy Lore. Cullen represents Smithville
Fiber, while Amy represents Greene
County General Hospital.
Cullen is Executive Vice President of Smithville Fiber. He has two decades of experience working in the telecommunications industry. A staunch supporter of rural fiber
based broadband, Cullen is a member of the
Government Affairs Committee of NTCAThe Rural Broadband Association and a
member of the Board of Directors of the Arkansas Telecommunications Association.
He has also been involved with numerous
boards of directors for area chambers of
commerce and economic development corporations.
Amy is the PR, Marketing, and Business De-
velopment Manager at Greene County
General Hospital. She also handles
Government Affairs and Physician
Recruitment. Amy has invested more than
12 years in writing, marketing, branding,
public relations, strategic planning, and
business development for both the public
and private sectors. Her career has taken
her to Capitol Hill, where she served as a
staff member in the United States Senate,
and to the halls of the Indiana State
House, where she spent seven years as
an advisor and speech writer for former Lt.
Gov. Becky Skillman. Since then, Amy
has worked in business development and
communications at the WestGate@Crane
Technology Park, and supported the
communications needs of Radius Indiana
while completing her Master's degree in
Public Administration (ISU, '15).
