The Rome Underground, Line ”C”
Design of power-feeding plants, lighting and traction systems, and special
equipments.
“Graniti” depot and railway yard.
Client: Metro C - Ansaldo
Execution period: 2006 - In progress
The new “C” metro line is the first major public transport infrastructure in Italy
remotely controlled by an integrated automation system. The ”C” line will be
25.5 kilometres long when completed and it will cross the city from north-west
to south-east, doubling the current network. It will carry 24,000 passengers
per hour per direction.
A large part of this project is underground (almost 18 km), at a depth of
25-30 meters below road level.
There will be 30 train stations, including three stations interconnecting with
the other metro lines, one station connected to the FR1 (Fiumicino Airport-Fara
Sabina Regional Railway) and four stations that will be connected to
tramways.
For this project Sistra 2000 has collaborated in the following engineering
services:
Final/Detailed Design of the Power-Supply Subsystem of Line C, sections T4,
T5, T6A, T7 and the Depot
Final/Detailed Design of the electric systems and special systems for the
sections T3, T4, T5, T6A

The railway line has been operating since December 2005. It
runs from Rome to Naples for 184 Km; the final section entering
Naples is currently under construction.
The double track line includes: 5 operating control points, 4
central communication points and 4 interconnection points with
the historical line. The railway superstructure was built starting
from the waterproofing layer, using a first layer of crushed stone,
then sleepers and rails were laid, then track were lifted to the
height indicated in the design, and ultimately the adjustment
operations for the long welded rail and finishes were
performed.
Rome-Naples Section of the High Speed Railway:
advisory and support to Site Supervision of the railway
superstructure
Its execution was completed using two moving construction sites
to produce approximately 780 metres of railway tracks per day.
Inspections during transport and installation were performed by
the local Site Manager, who applied the Quality Control
procedures of the General Contractor, Pegaso Scrl.
