Grayson County News
Welcome to the 2016
Clarkson Honeyfest
September 21-24
Kentucky’s official State Honey
Festival is all about the honeybee!
Begun in the early 90’s, this year
celebrates the Honeyfest’s 22nd
Anniversary!
The annual bee-themed festival
celebrates Grayson County’s ties to
the honey industry. It has become
an event Grayson County and surrounding areas look forward to
each September.
Named for the Walter T. Kelley
Company in Clarkson, Kentucky,
dba/ Kelley Beekeeping, one of the
largest manufacturers of beekeeping supplies and equipment in the
United States, Clarkson Honeyfest
is looked forward to with anticipation from one year to the next.
The entire city celebrates by
decorating homes and businesses,
lawns and storefronts. Light poles
proudly wave bee-theme flags and
ribbon bouquets throughout the
city, welcoming attendees from all
over Kentucky and surrounding
states.
The entire community embraces
and generously supports the events
that draw thousands of people into
the town each September for the
wholesome, family oriented atmosphere and festivities.
Clarkson Honeyfest is held the
last Thursday, Friday and Saturday
in September and hosts numerous
activities such as a beauty pageant,
decorating contest, children’s rides,
parade, karaoke contest as well as
food and craft booths. There are
bluegrass and gospel music performances at night, ending with
a southern country/rock band on
Saturday night.
In 2006, enacted by the General
Assembly of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky, Clarkson Honeyfest
was named and designated as
Kentucky’s Official State Honey
Festival.

The fourth annual Fallin’ for the Arts art show and
contest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 during the
Clarkson Honeyfest.
Hosted by My Father’s House, located at 207 E. Main
St. in Clarkson, the juried art show will begin before
the Honeyfest Parade and continue on into the afternoon.
The show will offer artists the opportunity to display
their work and be considered for prizes.
There will be three categories for Grayson County
students and one for adults.
Student artwork will be judged by three local artists,
and adult artwork will be judged by the panel of judges,
as well as a public vote.
Prizes will be awarded for first and second places, as
well as honorable mentions.
There will be no entry fee for students. For adults,
the entry fee is $10 per art piece, which will go toward
cash prizes.
Artists will also have the opportunity to set up a 10’ x
10’ booth to display their work.
The fee to rent a booth is $20, but this will be waived
if artists are willing to demonstrate their work.
Last year’s show had 24 booths displaying work from
artists of all ages and media, according to Event Organizer Paula Haynes, of My Father’s House.
Haynes said performance art—such as music, singing, acting, poetry reading, etc.—is also welcome, but
it must be clean and family friendly.
For more information, contact Haynes at 270-2424152.
To sign up to perform during Fallin’ for the Arts, contact Leslie Downs at 270-589-4868.
Reach Matt Lasley at 270-259-9622, ext. 2015.

Gospel Singing - Primitive Quartet
The Primitive Quartet has been
traveling and singing gospel music
forty three years, and count it a joy
and privilege to spread the gospel
through song.
The quartet was formed as a result
of a fishing trip when they sat around
the campfire at night and sang. Realizing they had four-part harmony, and
from there started singing at their
home church and other local churches.
Today the Primitives travel approximately fifty thousand miles a year and
do about one hundred fifty dates annually. Their music is the traditional
mountain shape note style singing
accompanied by acoustical instruments including the mandolin, banjo,
fiddle, guitars and acoustic bass. They
play our own music on all of their
recordings and strive to duplicate the
same sound on personal appearances.
You may visit their website www.

McDonald Road
McDonald Road is a band formed
when a group of musicians got together for some informal “Jam” sessions
at Bryan England’s business, Custom
Inlay, around the year 1995. Custom
Inlay was at the end of McDonald
Road in Leitchfield. It seemed fitting
then, that we call our group, “McDonald Road”.
The band consists of Bryan England
(dobro/bass vocal), Leon Davis (man-
dolin/lead and baritone vocal), Roger
