An Introduction and Interview With The New Co-Sponsor of the Body Art Feature.... For Carpe Nocturne Magazine’s BODY ART FEATURE we are always seeking, not only, great artists, piercers and shops from around the world, but also products and services developed especially for those who proudly wear their ink! Today, we have found a unique company that caters to those concerned with proper skin care; especially for tattoos! The company is based out of New York and offers a full line of Skin Care products safe and especially for those with one or more tattoos. While discussing their products and an interview, Body Care by Emylee offered to be a co-sponsor of the Body Art Feature. So, today’s interview not only introduces you to a great company with great products, but also introducing you to our first Feature Co-Sponsor for the Body Art Feature. [Carpe Nocturne] What is the name of your business, who are we speaking to today and what exactly do you offer for those with tattoos? We’re called Body Care by Emylee. I’m Jennifer Thorpe-Moscon, one of the founders of this company. We offer a full line of body care products for those with tattoos – not just aftercare, but also total care. [Carpe Nocturne] Are your products made especially for those with tattoos, or are they made for Page 174 anyone but also work well with tattooed clients? Our products were made to be safe for everyone, with a particular emphasis on the needs of tattooed people. They can be used by anyone, and are safe for those with tattoos. [Carpe Nocturne] What makes your line of skin care products different and why should people with tattoos be especially interested? Our skin care products are made with natural and organic ingredients, and do not contain alcohol, petrolatum, or parabens. Many tattoo products on the market contain such ingredients, particularly petrolatum, which prevents skin from being exposed to the air and therefore prevents healing. Furthermore, after a tattoo has healed, tattooed skin still needs care to prevent fading over time and keep color vibrant. Our products do this, while other skin care products do not. All of our products are 100% cruelty-free, and our packaging is 100% recyclable. Furthermore, we are in direct contact with tattoo shops and artists. A lot of large corporations are just interested in their profit margin. We are always consulting with our clients to ensure their continued satisfaction with our products. If some- one wants to provide feedback or suggestions for any of our products, it is easy for any person to talk to an executive in the company – no form letters or impersonal responses to your inquiries. other lotions, including a body lotion, face lotion, under-eye cream, and body butter. We have a massage oil that also provides intense moisture to skin. We have two shaving products – a shaving oil and cream – and body washes including [Carpe Nocturne] How many Tattoo Safe products one that is caffeinated. We also have several hair do you make and what exactly are they for or do care products, including a shampoo for normal they do? hair, a moisturizing shampoo, a conditioner, a hair masque, and a detangling spray. We have two At the moment, we offer 18 different products, products specifically designed for men – a men’s as well as a variety of gift packs that consist of body wash and a men’s shampoo-conditioner-invarious combinations of products. Our Tattoo Afone. Finally, we have a women’s perfume that is tercare Lotion is for use on new, healing tattoos alcohol-free and has a fantastic scent. (though can continue to be used after the tattoo is healed, as well). It contains natural ingredients [Carpe Nocturne] I am under the impression that that promote healing, reduce itch, and help protect against the damaging rays of the sun. It also does not contain anything that could impede the healing of a tattoo that many other aftercare products do, such as petrolatum. The rest of our skin care products are for use on healed tattoos, keeping them safe for years to come. We have several Page 175 no other company makes a line of products geared toward those who wear ink, is this true? You’re quite right. While there are other aftercare creams, there are none that we have seen that contain the natural healing ingredients that our lotion does. Our aftercare lotion protects your new ink without clogging it with the thick, waxy residue so many others can leave. Also, importantly, no other company provides total care for your body and hair while protecting your tattoo – helping it retain its beauty long after it has healed. Anything that you put on your body or comes in contact with your skin for any reason can have an adverse impact on your tattoo – but Emylee products will not. Just because your tattoo is healed doesn’t mean you should stop taking care of it! [Carpe Nocturne] How long have you been in business and where can your products be purchased/ shipped to? Our parent company has been in business for eight years. The Body Care by Emylee division was formed about one year ago. We ship to all US locations as well as many European and Asian countries. [Carpe Nocturne] Do you have any well known or famous clients at this time? We have been getting a lot of great feedback on the Emylee line of body care products, especially our tattoo lotion. Most recently we received a great review from George Pallos of Tattoo Guru, one of the hottest tattoo magazines out there. George said, “My wife and secretary love it, especially the lotion!” We also received a glowing review from Kristen Collins of the Long Island Examiner (that review can be found here: http://www.examiner. com/beauty-products-in-long-island/bodycare-byemylee-should-be-bodycare-for-you). [Carpe Nocturne] How did you come upon the formula for your products? Do you have a background in skin care? Actually, I have a background in psychology. When I left graduate school, I wanted to apply my knowledge in a way that would help others – particularly, those whose needs, I felt, were being ignored. The tattoo community (of which I am myself a part) seemed to me to be a growing and exciting one whose needs were neglected Page 176 by mainstream products. I conducted research to learn more about the needs of the tattoo community and to discover what products were and were not available to this group. The conclusions of this research are what drove our labs to develop the products you see today. [Carpe Nocturne] Do you attend Tattoo Conventions to market and sell your products? If so, what memorable ones have you attended? We are currently planning to attend and exhibit at a number of upcoming conventions in New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia. [Carpe Nocturne] What have your client comments and feedback been like to date? Extremely positive! Apart from the aforementioned reviews in the Examiner and by George Pallos, we have received very positive feedback from salon clients and tattoo parlors. Several parlors have said, most notably, that our tattoo lotion is the best they’ve tried to date – that it heals their ink and does not leave the greasy residue of other products. Salons have commented that their clients love our shampoos and conditioners – both the way they leave hair healthy and their pleasant scent. In addition, the clients who have purchased our products directly from our website have provided us with incredibly positive feedback – both directly to us and by word of mouth to their friends! [Carpe Nocturne] I finally got my first tattoo and already have ideas for several more to come. I look forward to your suggestions and to trying your products. Congratulations! If you want to discuss your ideas with other tattoo lovers, you can check out the Tat-Friendly Community on Facebook. And, as always, you can purchase our products at www. tatfriendly.com. Your local tattoo shop may also carry our tattoo lotion -- and if it doesn’t, suggest us to the owner! We have excellent wholesale packages for shops of all sizes. [Carpe Nocturne] Thank you for taking the time for this interview and I wish you the best. Thank you for caring about our ink! Thank you for taking the time to talk with me! ~ END ~ Page 177
