Steve Spicer Leadership
Award
The Steve Spicer Memorial Team Leadership Award
was inaugurated in 1999 by the Michigan High School
Football Coaches Association. The award honors
high schools throughout the State of Michigan who
exemplify the legacy left to us by Steve Spicer, the
former head football coach at Fowler High School.
Steve was an outstanding coach, teacher, husband,
father and community leader before his untimely
battle with cancer took him from us. Steve who is a
member of our Football Coaches Hall of Fame, had
an outstanding coaching record along with capturing
a state football title while at Fowler. More importantly
however, is the fact that he was a great role model for
the players he coached and the students he taught.

Nomination Forms will be mailed separately to head coaches
*Selection Committees will use MaxPreps.com for your
player’s stats. Enter them at MaxPreps.com.
Game Date TBD (Late June or early July), 2011
Class A schools may nominate three (3) players
Class B schools may nominate two (2) players
Class C & D schools may nominate one (1) player
Only one player per school may be selected to play in the All Star Game.
When nominating players for the All Star Game coaches should consider the following guidelines:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Only nominate players that you feel have the ability to play with the best in the state.
A player’s “character” is essential. Nominate players who will reflect positively on your school and on your community.
BEFORE NOMINATING A PLAYER, check with him to be sure that, if selected, he will play in the game.
Do NOT nominate players who are considering the service academies.
If you have a player(s) deserving of this honor please take the time to fill out the nomination form (mailed in a separate package) and return it to Gus Kapolka before December 15. *Do not send video with the nomination form! *Hudl highlight video
can be “shared” with All Star Coaches.
Players selected to play in the All Star Game will be required to submit all materials relative to participation (physicals, program
materials, information sheets, etc.), by MARCH 15 or they may be replaced by an alternate at their position.

All Star Game Note:
It was a wonderful game and experience I will never forget. Even though my grandson Cody French played for the West team
and they lost the game in the last 26 seconds it was one of my proudest moments to watch him play. Cody
said he had the time
of his life the whole week at MSU, met the greatest coaches and kids and felt it was one of the biggest honors in his life.
Thanks to all who make this All Star game possible and for recognizing the great kids and the work they have done to get this
far. Their dedication and sportsmanship and work ethics have paid off for them and it truly showed.
Thanks again,
Nancy Letourneau

2010 Game Decided for East with 14
Seconds on Clock
by Gus Kapolka, All Star Chair
he 30th installment of the MHSFCA All Star Game saw the East defeat the West
20-16 in an exciting game that kept fans in therir seats right up to the final seconds
when the East was able to capitalize on a turnover to snatch the victory.
The 30th MHSFCA All Star Game was an enjoyable experience for the coaches, players, and support staff who spent a week preparing.
I would like to congratulate both teams for a well played game, and congratulate
the Eest All Stars for their victory. Both coaching staffs did a tremendous job preparing
throughout the year for the game, and their conduct during the week was exemplary.
I would also like to thank all MHSFCA regional directors, and All Star Committee
members who donated their time to make the game possible: Troy Nezki, Tim Baker,
Larry Rueger, Tim Parker, Fred Davis, Dick McGuines, Keith Froleich, Jim Buttson,
Craig Healy, Loren Wiley and Tom Barbieri. I would also like to thank MSU head coach
Mark Dantonio, and High School Liaison Dino Folino for their hospitality.
