PARISH LITURGY SCHEDULE Weekend Masses Saturday Evening 5:00pm Sunday 8:00am & 10:00am 12:00 noon & 7:00pm Daily Mass Monday - Saturday at 8:30am Tuesday 7:00pm Confession Saturday 4:00pm Holy Day Masses As scheduled in Bulletin Rectory Office Hours Monday thru Thursday 8:00am to 7:00pm Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (Closed for lunch 12 - 1pm) Saturday 9:00am - 2:00pm Sunday CLOSED Weekend at Birney’s Remembering 9/11 It is difficult to imagine that fieen years ago this Sunday, the world awoke to the presence of evil in our midst. On the otherwise clear September morning, those of us who are old enough to remember, will recall the horrific events of death and destruc on that occurred by the hands of a few. I vividly remember preparing for a funeral mass that morning, and seeing the planes crash into the towers of the World Trade Center. Throughout that funeral mass, I kept praying for all those trapped inside, that they would somehow be rescued. Li&le did I know that the buildings would eventually fall, and other planes also used as weapons of destruc on. I can only think of one thing that would be more tragic, and that would be forge'ng all that occurred, all the lives that were taken, all the heroes that were consecrated. Amidst all the tumult of our present day, let us never forget the horror of 9/11, to con nually pray for the lives that were lost, and for peace to reign in the hearts of all. Parish Town Hall Meeng A reminder that our parish town hall, to discuss in more detail our financial situaon at the parish, will take place this Sunday (Sept.11), immediately following the 12noon Mass. I suspect we should be ready for the mee ng to begin by 1:15pm. This mee ng will provide all in a&endance the opportunity to hear more detailed informa on about our financial situa on and have me to ask ques ons. The mee ng will take place in the Church. I know it is never easy, and rarely enjoyable, to discuss financial details, but I want to ensure that everyone hears the facts which will provide us the best opportunity to properly address them as a community of faith. I ask for your con nued prayers for the parish, and the success of our mee ng. (Connued next page) Page 2 Weekend at Birney’s (continued) Pilgrimage to France From Aug.26- Sept.4, I had the privilege to lead 27 people on a pilgrimage throughout France. We visited many ci es, and many saints! I was sure to remember all the people of St. Frances Cabrini in prayer as we celebrated Mass at many of these holy sites. In the Basilica at Lisieux, dedicated to St. Therese of the Child Jesus (also known as: the Li&le Flower, & of the Holy Face), there are several side altars that were funded by different countries. At the side Altar furnished by the USA, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was dedicated, to none other than, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini! You were all remembered in a very special way upon this happy discovery. Football Season I enjoy all sports, but my favorite to watch (was never much of a player….s ll awai ng my growth spurt) is football. I am looking forward to watching Cabrini High School football games (they are presently 1-1), but also ‘my other’ teams as well: MSU, Notre Dame and the professional variety with the Lions! My Mom and several siblings a&ended MSU and my Dad did the same at Notre Dame…so it’s in my DNA. Here are my predic ons for the upcoming contests….for good measure; I’ll also include that ‘other’ Michigan team as well! Notre Dame 31 – Nevada 17 U of M 34 – UCF 14 Lions 21 – Colts 20 (either way, it could be an upset?) That’s all for now, see you in Church, Fr. Tim Birney day, September 15, to help parishes learn about offering a complete support group ministry for divorced and separated Catholics. September 17/18: Youth and Young Adult Ministry. “Encounter, Grow, Witness” is the theme of the upcoming Engaging the Young Church Conference, for those who minister to youth and young adults in our Archdiocese. September 24/25: Campus Ministry. The blessing and dedication of the newly renovated Wayne State Newman Catholic Center will take place at 4 p.m., Thursday, September 29. Archbishop Allen Vigneron will preside over the prayer service. For more information on CSA-funded ministries, programs, and services, please go to www.AOD.org. We are still in need of donations to reach our target goal . If you have made a donation, thank you. If you haven’t made a donation yet, please fill out a yellow slip that you can find in the back of church, place the slip and your donation in an envelope – marked CSA – and put it in the Sunday Collection or bring it to the Rectory office. Memorial Garden Plaque We are s ll taking names for the next memorial plaque. We need approximately 105 names before we can send to the engraver. As of now, we are at 35, so it will take a smidge longer! You do NOT have to be deceased to reserve a place on the plaque. Different fonts = different prices. Well, now it is time to get down to business. The Christian Women will be holding their first meeting on Thursday, September 22, 2016 (the day autumn begins) from 7:00-9:00pm in the Holy Family Hall. The Board has been working diligently to prepare the Calendar of Events for the 2016-17 year, so let’s take a minute to consider what we can do to help serve the parish and promote our agenda. Come to the meeting and lend your support. Looking forward to seeing you on the 22nd. Calling All Chefs! Do you make a mean Manicotti? Is Irish stew your specialty? Shiver me timbers ~ hope to see you at the Book Fair! EPTG September 11, 2016 th 24 Sunday in Ordinary Time In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that the shepherd rejoices when he finds one lost sheep. The story tells us that nothing and no one is insignificant to God who is compassionate and loving to all. Is there a neighbor or friend of yours who is in temporary need because of a loss of a job or an illness? Please leave a message for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul...we want to help! Words of St. Francis of Assisi I, little brother Francis, wish to follow the life and poverty of Jesus Christ our Most High Lord and of his Most Holy Mother and to persevere in this until the end. Scripture He began to teach them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:2-3 Prayer Lord Jesus, your mother’s true poverty was her emptiness before the Father, so that she could bear you into the world. Your own life reflected the true poverty for which you came—to empty yourself, become a servant, and submit to death on the cross. I too want a surrendered will. I want your kingdom. Help me, now and always, to come before the Father clinging to nothing. Amen. Practice I will identify and abandon anything that stands in the way of God’s will for me, whether reputation or relationship, possession or pride. Sunday, September 18 Mass and Hospitality 7:00PM Saturday, September 24 Pokemon Scavenger Hunt Night Mother Cabrini Room 5:00-7:00PM World Youth Day is a gathering held every two to three years, started by thenPope John Paul II when he invited the youth of the world to Rome to celebrate the United Nations International Year of Youth. This summer was the 13th WYD pilgrimage, held in Poland, his birthplace. In the 30 years since it began, millions of youth continue to accept the invitation each time WYD is held. As we share these reflections of the WYD pilgrims from our parish, we thank you for supporting our journey. Every moment, good or not so good, was guided by Jesus and happened for a reason. Every beautiful and unique face, color and voice attending WYD events gave me great HOPE for the future of our world and for ending or striving to end hate, violence and sel"ishness through love, prayer, faith and actions guided by Jesus. Our circle of prayer at Auschwitz was an especially moving time for me. Pope Francis’s words moved me deeply. He gets it. He knows how to relate to all people, especially our youth. Mercy, love, prayer and action need to prevail. Another one of my favorite moments was a last minute decision, but it changed my spirit. During a break at one of the catechesis events, I stopped by the adoration chapel for confession. At the single moment of absolution, a positive peacefulness entered my heart through Christ, and I believe made the little challenges of pains of the rest of our pilgrimage easier to endure. God was good to us in so many ways. Amy Listening to what the Pope Francis says really had an impact on me. As Fr. Joe said, listening to what the Pope says and then a politician, you notice a huge difference. One of the best parts of this trip was talking to people from around the world. Attending World Youth Day has changed my faith because what the Pope said has really inspired me.
