Global Festival Arrives at Liberty
Film-goers at the Liberty have the
opportunity to unite with
audiences in over 250 cities
spanning six continents to view
and judge the work of a new generation of filmmakers from
around the world when the 19th Annual MANHATTAN
SHORT Film Festival screens here.
The 10 MANHATTAN SHORT finalists hail from eight
countries, with France and Australia represented by two
films each, and were selected from a record 850
submissions from 52 countries.
Which of these 10 short films is the best? That’s up to you
and the rest of the festival’s worldwide audience to decide.
Audiences votes are sent in and tallied, and the winner is
announce on October 3.
MANHATTAN SHORT audiences know a good short when
they see one. Two of the top vote-getters from 2015, SHOK
(Kosovo) and Bear Story (Chile), became Oscar nominees,
with the latter winning the famous statue in the best
animated short category.
The cost for this fabulous cinematic experience is the same
as it is to attend any of the Liberty’s regular films.
Library & Liberty Celebrate Books
Banned Books, to be specific. Dayton
Memorial Library is gearing up for Banned
Books Week, and is bringing the party to the
Liberty Theater with a free screening of the
magical film adaptation of The Indian in the
Cupboard, a fantasy children’s novel by author
Lynne Reid Banks.
A brief selection of readings from banned
books will occur prior to the movie.
