It is a development of the Brazilian EMB-312 Tucano (Toucan). • The canopy is in two sections and is bird strike-resistant for pilot protection. • The cockpit layout has been designed to mimic that of the Hawk advanced trainer as much as possible, to aid continuity in training. • The instructor’s rear seat is raised to allow a clear view over the student’s head; this gives the aircraft a humpbacked appearance. It was modified and adopted for RAF use in 1965. • The Dominie T1 was used as an advanced navigation trainer, providing students with experience of navigation in high speed.
