GRAHAM RAINES Jim Flowers Retires; 23 Years with USA Jim Flowers has decided to begin a well-deserved retirement on March 11, after 23 years of service with U.S. Security Associates. He began his second career in the security business, joining Advance Security in 1988, after retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army with over 20 years of service. Jim had been promoted to the position of Vice President of Administration for Advance Security when it was acquired by U.S. Security Associates in 1994, and has served very effectively in that capacity for the last seventeen years. March 10, 2011 the Administration Department, Management Development Department and Strategic Sales Department attended their final luncheon with Jim Flowers and their first with Jon Dimalanta at the Killer Creek restaurant, Roswell, Georgia. Jon Dimalanta has rejoined U.S. Security Associates and will replace Jim as Director of Administration. Jon was part of the USA team from 1996 to 2006. During his role as our Director of Management and Organizational Development, Jon was instrumental in the development of the USA Security Academy and in gaining nationwide ISO certification for the company. Jon returns to us after five years in an executive capacity with Bank of America. L to R: Branch Manager 523 Steven Dodge, Senior Field Supervisor Maj. Graham Raines, ESBU VP & GM Martin Legger Please join me in congratulating Jim on his retirement and welcoming Jon back to the U.S. Security Associates "family." Chuck Schneider, President and CEO, U.S. Security Associates, Inc. 1 I want to bring to your attention actions of several U.S. Security Guards working at United Refining Company during a vessel incident at the refinery. On February 24, 2011 at 12:37 a.m. I arrived on scene and reported to my assigned duties of the URC Fire Brigade. Although assigned to this function during emergencies such as this, I keep in constant contact with the Security force on duty to ensure Security procedures are being followed as well as relaying up-to-date information to them. Bryce Neel – working Security Central was very reactive with the control and redirection of transports to our staging area at S/5 – Parker Street as well as handling the numerous phone calls received during any incident at URC. Jeremy Kasaback – working Security Two was very responsive with getting the transports evacuated as soon as possible from the gasoline loading rack and other traffic control. Jon McMillen – working at Security One as one of the newest guards carried out the emergency procedures of ensuring the Fire and Safety building and truck bay doors were open as well as controlling traffic in and out of his gate. Tyler Ford – working at Security Five was very organized with maintaining the orderly staging of the transports arriving from Security Central. Brian Johnson – was called in at approximately 4 a.m. to assist Security Central with redirecting traffic and the other security procedures of this post. I want to commend these Guards on duty at the time of this incident for responsibly carrying out Security emergency protocols as well as reacting to given instructions and directions from both myself and other URC Supervision. I also recommend that Andy Dietsch place a copy of this letter in the above Guards‟ personnel files. Sincerely, Keith L. Anderson Assistant Director, Physical Security USA Officers - Trained to Respond On February 28, 2011 at 1956, SCC received a call about a medical event occurring at the Texins Activity Center regarding an unconscious individual. This medical event turned into a life-treating situation and SCC did an outstanding job dispatching and notifications to the proper individuals. The USSA patrol units were at gate 7 waiting for DFR to arrive on property, at which time they escorted them by the shortest route possible to Texins Activity Center. USSA Officer Blackmore was first on scene and had the main doors open ready for MED 3 to bring in all his equipment. Med 3 Box and I arrived on scene in 3 min and started to assist Texins staff Euriah Walters and Fred Mckee who were already providing CPR and had the AED ready to analyze the individual for shock. When Dallas Fire & Rescue arrived on scene, they did not hesitate to load and go to the hospital. We were able to obtain the victim‟s personal property from his locker and give it to the paramedics prior to their departure. The individual was a member of Texins and not a TI or contract employee. They were able to look up the individual‟s emergency contact information and were able to make contact with the person listed on their information. I like to express my appreciation with Texins Activity Center Staff and B-Shifts security teams professional response to this stressful situation. I am happy to announce the individual is successfully recovering. Phillip Manriquez Texas Instruments Inc. Worldwide Security & Emergency Services Supervisor, Dallas, Texas 2 Chief Moore: I want to bring to your attention the work of several of your officers, Lt George Smith, Cheryl Robinson, Ronte Foster, Marie Hughes and Randall Baker. I commend them for their prompt response to an issue in my office recently. A DC resident came by the office. We have dealt with him previously, but it quickly became clear that he was having issues this time. He threatened to hurt one of my staffers, who quickly left the office. However, three other staff remained there. We alerted the officers at the front door, and immediately, several officers showed up and just took control of the situation. When they weren't able to calm him, they handcuffed him and escorted him out of the building. All of them were professional, responsive, and clearly knew what to do. There is no doubt that without their assistance, this situation could have escalated and ended badly. My staff was grateful they responded, as am I. I wanted you to know of their outstanding work. They are indeed an asset to this city. BRUNO A. BARREIRO MIAMI-DADE COUNTY COMMISSIONER DISTRICT 5 It is with pleasure that I write this letter on behalf of Mr. Jose Soto. During my tenure as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, Mr. Soto worked as a security officer at the Stephen P. Clark building. He was always very vigilant of the security of all who entered our offices and greeted everyone with much respect and professionalism. I was sad to see that he had been removed from his post at the Stephen P. Clark Center because we had lost a great security guard. However, I was later very pleased to know that he had been placed to work at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart where my daughter is a student. As a parent there is nothing more important to me than my child's safety. I feel very confident that my daughter is well protected while at school with Mr. Soto on the premises as the security guard. I would appreciate that you give Mr. Soto all the consideration that he deserves and hope that he continue to be assigned to Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. 3 How do we know we’re the best... -Phoenix, AZ I would like to recognize Nick Gonzales, Rudy Dominguez and Scott Hamilton. This morning a McKelvey driver attempted to leave the yard with a loaded trailer that was missing a seal. Obviously, it is the expectation that they verify and inspect the trailer prior to its departure, but in this environment, potential complacency is inevitable. They reached out to the yard auditor and myself, and under further investigation, there appeared to be a risk of pilfering from the trailer as well. The intent of the driver is undetermined, but the potential risk for theft exists. Fortunately, the trailer‟s contents were accounted for and no loss occurred. Today, this group proved to me that they possess the values and character that crafts your company‟s success. Thank you, Brian Friedman THE HOME DEPOT Manager - Supply Chain Asset Protection We just wanted to share with you the efforts put forth by your employee Officer Tim Sanderson. In the early morning hours of February 14th Tim was on patrol at our property on University Drive in Tempe when he came across a burglary in progress. When he approached, the perpetrator fled, Tim followed him to the exit of the property and was able to get the color, make, model, and license plate number of his vehicle, call the police and provide them with this pertinent information. Tim is a fine example of the security your company provides. Thank you, Linda Engle Property Manager Tempe, AZ We are very appreciative. I wish to take this opportunity to recognize your employees Tyler Mims, Richard Grissett and Tyrone Bell. During our visits your personnel assume a very important role when they quickly questioned our presence in the area. The contributions that your employees put forth demonstrate their ability to be vigilant at a critical time, and at a moment's notice. These are certainly exceptional individual efforts by all three employees which we feel should be recognized. We feel it is of equal importance that we bring this to your attention, and that you are involved in the recognition of the performance of your employees. We would like to thank you and your employees for your commitment to TSA's mission. Your dedication has been recognized by TSA Buffalo staff and your fellow colleagues. Derek "Rick" DePietro Federal Security Director US Department of Homeland Security - TSA Our Clients tell us! We had an employee recently experience a severe asthmatic episode in our parking lot after normal business hours. and was out of the proper medication. The security officer on duty, Abdul Abassi, noticed an employee lying in the parking lot via the cameras and went out to investigate. The employee has had a history of asthma attacks Michael D. Hall Precision Response Corporation Director Corporate Security Planation, Florida He dialed 911, and quite likely saved this person's life. 4 How do we know we’re the best... -Arlington, VA I would like to compliment William Ashby of Century Center for his wonderful service on Thursday February 24th 2011. We had a situation in the branch and Mr. Ashby was prompt and very helpful in helping to diffuse the situation. He assisted Arlington County Police Department with a detainee situation and was very professional the entire time. Not only that, but every time Mr. Ashby visits our branch, he is courteous and professional. I would like to let you know that I think Mr. Ashby is a very valuable member of your team and it is a pleasure to work with him! Jan Harlow Branch Manager, Crystal City Branch, VA Navy Federal Credit Union We would like to comment on Security Officer Donnie Stebbins with U.S. Security on his diligence with the patrol of the residence halls. On the early morning of March 4, 2011, around 12:45 AM, Donnie was patrolling the halls and he acted upon a female voice coming from a room in the men’s wing after visitation hours. Donnie made contact and found an alcohol violation. The female was escorted back to her room. We believe that Officer Stebbins’s actions prevented any further criminal activity from happening. We would like to thank Donnie for his exceptional work that morning. Keep up the Good work! Don Rose Director of Security Hutchinson Community College Dana Hinshaw Director of Residence Halls Hutchinson Community College Hutchinson, KS Robert Mielke Lead Security Hutchinson Community College On February 9, 2011, Branch 206, Sacramento, CA received a request for assistance in Bishop, California, 322 miles from the Stockton Office. Security Officers Doug Gianni and Dwight Simpson took up the challenge and for the next seven days relocated to Bishop, CA to support the immediate request for security services. The Stockton Branch Operations Manager Robert Potts is always ready to accept a challenge when the opportunity presents itself and his leadership and dedication of his officers reflects greatly upon U.S. Security Associates, Inc., and his local branch. Timothy Isenhart District Manager #206 who has always found the officers in Branch 206 to be professional, and willing to support efforts such as those mentioned above. Additionally, while deployed to Bishop, CA the officers took the time to visit local sites and enjoy their time off. Officers Doug Gianni & Dwight Simpson Our Clients tell us! 5 How do we know we’re the best... Officer Allen Tyrpak called SOC due to suspicious incident: When officer Tyrpak came into work he saw several people messing around with the security sign. He then clocked in and asked several guards to re-check the sign, by then the people were gone. Later during patrol, Officer Tyrpak saw a paper-clip on the sign replacing the bolt that holds sign together... Upon further investigation they pulled out about a 5 inch long glass I am sending this note to RAVE about Marcos Esparaza. Marcos continually goes “above and beyond” for MAQUET Cardiovascular. syringe with wires coming out and a substance inside the syringe. The Officer called PD and Fire Department. Officer Tyrpak called the SOC back informing me the suspicious item is a "Geo-cap" which provides coordinates and for people to sign for a "game". Officer Tyrpak did an excellent job of observation and follow up. Genoa M. Martin Rockwell Collins Security Coordinator Security Operations Center Tustin, CA I just wanted to pass this on to you. I just spoke with Lee and Doug at the Warren facility, I asked them how they would rate the Guard Service. I asked them to use a scale of 1 to 10. Our Clients tell us! They were having trouble deciding on 9 or 10 and finally decided on 10. Most recently, 3 of our team members were out of the office at the same time that we had a 2day event for 105 employees! I called US Securities to get a 2nd guard coverage for the front door lobby, and to free up Marcos. Needless to say either would have been very good! Marcos worked so hard over those two days…and absolutely everything he did was “out of scope” for his position. He is a true team member and very dependable! I am always glad to hear such positive feedback. For two days he covered multiple departments (incl. shipping/receiving, facilities, security, EHS) AND he helped decorate the building for an employee appreciation lunch, directed the caterers and musician to their locations, helped set up tables, handed out appreciation gifts and always kept a cool head and positive attitude. Marcos is a wonderful asset to our company, and I am proud to work on the same team with him. Thank You. Karen Douglas the Security Manager for Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan Inc. On January 18, 2011, security officer Thomas Salvatore was working the security gatehouse at The Springs in Purchase, NY. There was inclement weather on that day and the roads at The Springs were very slippery due to the ice. Security Officer Thomas Salvatore followed the post procedures and opened up the gates to prevent any vehicles from having accidents with the gates under the slippery road conditions. This is a perfect example of what our clients expect from our security officers and Thomas provides excellent service to The Springs and we greatly appreciate him. Juan E. Isales Branch Manager White Plains, NY Advance Security Officer Holly Jansma is pictured receiving her Certificate of Commendation with Operations Manager Mike Bigney on the left and our client Karen let us know that Holly has been doing an outstanding job and recently helped in the apprehension of a known local panhandler/ deviant in the neighborhood. local neighborhood association over a 3 week period to identify the individual and make the area around our client's facility safer for all involved. Peter Rykowski Operations Manager Grand Rapids, MI Holly worked with the local police department and the Officer Rhonda Landrum works at Port Freeport, Texas, located on the Gulf of Mexico. The Port is classified as a Port of Entry into the United States and as an International Trade Zone. As such it receives large volumes of international cargo and nonimmigrant aliens. Due to being federally regulated, administrative search authority has been granted to Port Security (contracted to USSA) under Title 33 CFR/USC and the Maritime Transportation Security Act. While working the outbound lane at a gate at the Port of Freeport Rhonda noticed an alien crewmember making egress of the facility that had a suspicious bulge in his jacket. The alien was stopped for usual document review of applicable immigration documents and a secondary action was taken based off of Rhonda‟s suspicion. A customized belt wrapped around the alien containing what was perceived to be >1KG of Cocaine HCL was detected. The Bureau of Customs and Border Protections was immediately notified and the alien was detained. The substance was then field tested positive for Cocaine HCL. Rhonda has a keen ability for detection of unlawful substance and has many fraudulent federal, state/local IDs under her belt as well as weapons. This is her first detection of a sizeable amount of narcotics. Her attention to detail and dedication to her work has made her the envy of the local USSA district staff and officers as well as pleasing multiple federal regulatory and law enforcement agencies Our Clients tell us! 7 Exemplary Contributions On behalf of Johanna Foods Incorporated, I want to recognize the efforts of Security Officer Radoslaw Wiercinski, David Walen and Scott Graham during the recent numerous snowstorms. The Officers exhibited the qualities of dedication and reliability by always putting Johanna Foods first. They consistently reported to post regardless of the weather conditions, despite the fact that many of the storms required an extended travel time. These Security officers represented U.S. Security Associates with the highest standard of professionalism. Johanna Foods and I greatly appreciate the effort put forth and look forward to our continued success together. L to R Security Officer Radoslaw Wiercinski, Manager of Corporate Security Brain Griffiths, and Security Officer David Walen. Blizzard warnings were issued by the National Weather Service with instructions to only leave your home if it was absolutely necessary. During all of the upsets, worries and accidents we found several employees that proved to be dedicated to their clients and jobs. We recognize these employees and share a few of their stories for their proven dedication, commitment to service and hard work during an extreme situation. Dawn King was on post at Dyno Nobel for 32 hours straight. Tyler Hobson was on post at Hallowell Manufacturing for 38.75 hours straight. David Harrison was on post at Conway Truckload for 28 hours straight. Reggie Gayles was on post at CMT Construction for 16 hours then turned around and went back in after 8 hours off. Rickie Schubert worked 16 hours straight, then came back in after 8 hrs off and worked another 12 at Dollar General. Mike Booker, Mike Mahuirin and Becky Davis all worked Dollar General long hours (as much as 20 hours straight) and stayed at a hotel just up the street for two days to make sure they could be at work and the posts were covered. Terry Keohn worked for 28.25 hours straight through because his relief could not get into Cessna in Wichita. We have three guards that were just hired and each of them were willing to get out and go when there was a “State of Emergency” issued and everyone was advised to stay off the roads. Kodiak Daniel worked 23.50 hours, David Richardson worked 16 hours straight and Billy Brown worked 21.50 hours straight. What a way to start a new job. Wayne Dannemann was on post for 28.50 hours straight at Masonite in Pittsburg, Ks. Tammy Cotter and Rick Abney both got rooms and stayed close for two nights to ensure they could get into Branch Office to keep operations going. Daniel King helped to shuttle employees around. Zac Harris (Staples), Ashlee Sperry & Paul Smith (AIG) all worked a double shift filling in for people that were unable to shovel their way out of their driveways. Protective yet Professional I wanted to let you know about how S.O. Maria Crossman did during an incident, yesterday the 28th, at the country club. She called me yesterday morning to advise me that someone was trying to hook a vehicle to tow it away from the employee's parking area. She advised that the driver of the wrecker was being very rude and un-cooperative. From all indications at the time it appeared that this gentleman was trying to repossess an employee's vehicle. I called the receptionist on my cell phone and had her get in contact with Marvin Jones. He went into the parking lot area and made contact with this individual and S.O. Crossman. It is my understanding that S. O. Crossman was very protective of Marvin Jones and handled herself very professionally. It's officers like her that make the very real difference in our security company. Anniversaries! 10+ Years of Service Experience is important in any job, but never more important than in the security business. Not only does experience help us to perform our daily responsibilities better, it really counts when “the chips are down” and we must react to a fire, forced entry or other emergency at a client site. Our clients recognize this and love to see the same security officers, supervisors and branch office representatives on their site year-after-year. Fortunately, we have a great deal of experience within the company. I am proud to say that last year alone, we recognized 1,900 Associates for five or more years of service. This strong experience base is an important reason why the U.S. Security Associates team is the “best in the business.” 2 0 Y E A R S O F S E RV I C E As far as performing his duties as a security guard there is no one that I have worked with in my 33 years here at the plant that does it as well as Roger Wilson . He consistently performs in a professional and knowledgeable manner with all duties that have been given him over the past 20 years. As the plant has changed over the years , so has the duties required by the security force. When changes were made Roger has always embraced them with a positive out look and quickly adapts to the changes. He not only just learns any new task that is given him, but also has made many suggestions and improvements to make things better for everyone. Daily, Roger performs many different jobs, from insuring proper security control of visitors, to interaction with deliveries and shipments or training the many contractors that work in the plant. 34 Spencer, Louis W. 29 Arko, Robert G. 29 Lee, Robert G. 22 Julia, Vincent J. 21 Lancieri, Anthony L 20 Dominguez, Efrain E. 18 Bryant, Archie C. 16 Williams, Mark 16 Ford, James J. 16 Sacco, Anthony N. 15 Hiday, Jr., Henry R. 15 Dowell, Gary J. 15 Castro, Anthony 14 Harvey.
