STATE FUNDING REDUCTIONS




FY 2010 - Rescission of approximately $2.2
million
FY 2011 – Reduction of $447 per student less
than the $7,008 called for by the Colorado
School Finance Act multiplied by the projected
funded student count of 14,423.1 = $6,447,125.
This amount is also $255 less than the FY2009
funding level of $6,816.
Among other cuts this funding resulted in the
loss of jobs for 81 certified staff, 54 classified
staff and reduced hours for another 108

Mill Levy Override Election
A mill levy override election is a request for additional property tax
to increase operation revenue. The additional revenue can be used
for any Board of Education approved purpose.
Mill levy overrides are held for a wide range of reasons. In recent
years, school districts have frequently requested additional property
taxes to support efforts of academic achievement and other
operational items. Operational items could include: phone systems,
rebuilding fund balance, salary increases, student transportation,
student fee reduction, longer school day and year, etc.
The numerous elections are caused in part by increasing demand for
improvements in educational programs and the low rate of school
financing in Colorado.

The recommendation from the Superintendent will ask
that the District seek a mill levy override for 4 mills which
will generate approximately $3.2 million starting this
fiscal year and will adjust on an annual basis based on
the actual assessed values of properties within the
District.
If successful these funds will be used for but not be
limited to:
1. Hiring and retaining highly qualified teachers to
maintain reasonable class sizes within the District;
2. Purchasing instructional materials and supplies,
including technology based items to support the
instruction of students; and
3. Maintaining healthy and safe learning environments.
