CULTURAL AGENDA May - June 2014 EDITO, Nathalie Korkmaz, Director W e are delighted to welcome author Tanguy Viel, one the main figures in contemporary French literature, for a talk on Thursday 29th May. His novel Paris-Brest was studied during the first semester by some of the students of the AF, who will now have the opportunity to discuss their points of view and impressions of the book with the author himself. A special soirée littéraire not to be missed! Our end of year party with our colleagues from the Goethe-Insitut will take place on Friday 13th June. This enjoyable evening will revolve around Belgium, as both French and German are spoken in this exceptional country. We hope you can join us to celebrate the end of the academic year with us! Finally, as 21st June marks the 1st day of the summer, we hope to warm up the atmosphere with some French music as part of La Fête de la Musique! More details will be announced soon, so save the date! À bientôt... M Talk with author Tanguy Viel AYTHURSDAY 29th MAY, 6.30-8 pm Free event held in French, suitable for Advanced levels. French author Tanguy Viel will present his book “Paris-Brest” at the Alliance Française and will also answer questions from the audience. Born in Brest in 1973, Tanguy Viel is a French author whose novel “Paris-Brest” was studied by the students enrolled in the Academic classes last year. Booking in advance is necessary. Wine-tasting: “Sauvignon Blanc” FRIDAY 16th MAY, 6-8pm Fees: £18 for AF members / £20 for non-members. This special event will introduce a discussion around ‘Old World’ and ‘New World’ wines. To complete this gustative experience, the various wines will be accompanied by delicious French nibbles. Please note that you must be over 18 to participate in this event. Bookings must be made at the Language Office by Saturday 10th May, places are limited. This workshop is held in French: Intermediate and Advanced levels advised (B1). Ciné-club: “Camille redouble” MONDAY 12th MAY, 6pm Fees: £3 for AF members & University students / £4 for non-members In French with English subtitles (115min). Film followed by a discussion about the film and cinema in general. Drinks served during the discussion. All levels welcome for the screening. Level Intermediate / Advanced (B1) advised for the discussion. Booking in advance is necessary. Summer Classes: Semi-Intensive and 3-day Intensive Courses will be running between June and September. Opening Hours in May: the Language Office and the Library will be closed on Monday 5th May; the building will however be open from 5pm for the evening classes.
