These were introduced to all of the students in special assemblies this week when they were explained to the students. AT the end of this first week of our new simple rules, we have been delighted by how quickly and easily the students have adopted them. Here they are for your information: The Rules
Above all else we treat people as we would wish to be treated ourselves and in particular at Bacon’s we:  do what we are asked to do ‐ without arguing – if you feel you have been unfairly treated, raise this with your Tutor at the end of the day. Your Tutor can help you to understand what went wrong and put your point across to your teacher. If you argue you will get into more trouble and make the situation worse. 
listen to others‐ and give people a chance to speak – In class that means putting your hand up and waiting to be invited to answer a question. With your friends that could be considering their feelings and point of view rather than confronting them if you had had a falling out. 
are respectful, courteous and polite ‐ all the time – the majority of you are like this all the time. All of you know how to do this. If you want to be listened to, your message is so much more powerful if you say it in a respectful way. If you try to argue or are rude, you have already lost the argument. Be smart! 
respect personal space ‐ we keep our hands and feet to ourselves – if there was no play fighting there would be no fights. It is not ok to take peoples equipment, ties or personal belongings. It is not appropriate to link arms or drape our arms around each other. This does not happen in a professional environment and we are trying to prepare you for that. 
work hard‐ and always do our best – remember that success is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration so don’t give up 
are truthful and honest ‐ we admit our mistakes – everyone values honestly very highly. If you admit where have you have gone wrong you can put it right. If you don’t you get stuck in the same place never moving forward. 
are kind to each other ‐ we avoid hurtful behaviour – because it is the right thing to do and we are a community and we should look out for each other. You know our definition of bullying Several Times On Purpose; If you would not like it said to you or to a younger brother or sister, don’t say it 
forgive others and ourselves ‐ we all need a second chance – forgiving others who have hurt us can be difficult – that’s why we have a mediation team that can help us to see the other person’s side. Forgiving ourselves can also be hard but there are many people in the College who can help with that like Tutors, Counsellors and mentors.
