Things will be busy
through end of year
By Lynn Scarlett
As I sat down to work on this month’s Chamber page, I realized just
how busy things have been and will continue to be through the end of
the year.
In October we ended the Midtown Farmers’ Market for the season,
held the annual Chamber/Nevada Economic Development Celebration, held the second session of Leadership Nevada, had a Mix and
Mingle at the Nevada Fire Station, took a sneak peek at the Nevada
Public Library, had a ribbon cutting for the new bike trail on South
11th Street, held a Mix and Mingle at NuCara Pharmacy, visited four
businesses on the south side of Highway 30 (21st Century Rehab, Budget Inn and Suites, Nevada Automotive Sales and Service, and Nevada Family Chiropractic) and had lunch at Quirks Grill and Bar, had
between 700 and 900 children and adults enjoy Downtown Trick or
Treat and ended the month with the community-wide Trick or Treat
on October 31.
And November doesn’t appear to be any less busy! The ABWA
Craft Show on November 9 and 10, grand opening at Queen Anne Bed
and Breakfast on November 12, Mix and Mingle at Priority Envelope
on November 14, another Mix and Mingle on November 21 at Hunziker & Associates with Allen Kockler Company and Thanksgiving
on November 28.
Shop Nevada First will also be getting underway the Friday after
Thanksgiving! Be sure and shop our local stores during the holidays
and sign up to win up to $100 in Chamber bucks. The contest will run
through December 15. You can sign up every time you shop a Nevada
Chamber business.
And, then, before you know it, it will be December and that means
the Nevada Winterfest! The Winterfest will be held on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14. The event will include the Chamber Cookie Walk, a tree festival, a junior theater presentation both Friday evening and Saturday morning, Breakfast with Santa, and a brand
new event this year – a sleigh ride! Raymond Helmuth of Nevada will
be bringing a team of horses to Gates Hall on Saturday morning, from
8:30 to 10 a.m., and give families a ride. We ask that you bring a bag of
apples or carrots for the horses or make a cash donation to cover their
feed costs. Bring your camera to document the fun!
The Chamber is still looking for cookie bakers for the Cookie
Walk. If you are interested in baking cookies, either as an individual
or as a group, call the Chamber office at 382-6538. We will be holding
a contest for the best decorated cookies again this year, with the prize
being $50 in Chamber bucks.
It is going to be another busy but fun holiday season in Nevada!
Watch the Nevada Journal for upcoming events and listen to KASI in
Ames and KFJB/KIX 101.1 in Marshalltown for all upcoming events.
