TIPTON SCHOOL UPDATE Last week we finished our Fall STEM Festival and I must stay it was quite exciting. Once again the students prepared for this science type fair by preparing various science projects that included technology, engineering, and math; hence, STEM. I was particularly proud of my fifth grade class. This year my students decided to research and complete five projects. The projects included a spewing volcano, a jack rabbit habitat, a sustainable island home (complete with faux solar panels and a wind generator), a tornado in a bottle, and a marble track that included series of ramps and loops (a study into Newton’s First Law of Motion which includes balanced forces – objects at rest versus objects in motion). Great job students! One of the goals of the teachers and staff at Mt. Tipton School is to provide a service to our community. We meet this goal by offering various activities at the school. We kicked off our year with the Mt. Tipton Reading Extravaganza in September and the Fall STEM Festival in October. In this continuing effort to serve our community, Mt. Tipton School will be hosting a class for anyone wishing to acquire their Mohave County food handler’s card. The class will be held at the school on Friday, November 20, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. This event is open to the public and only $20.00. If you would like to attend, please call Mt. Tipton at 928-767-3350 to reserve a spot. With the holidays approaching, it is good to be organized. So, on your calendar, pencil in December 10 for Mt. Tipton’s Winter Wonderland. This festive event is open to the public and will be filled with fun, great food, and loads of surprises. I will be giving you more information as we get closer to the event. Until next time, be safe and read a good book. It was overwhelming how many items were donated. There are so many wonderful people in our community. We want to thank everyone who made generous bids on the baked goods. The total raised in the auction was $1235 which will make a bunch of kids happy. The money will be donated to the Christmas Eve Santa Quad Run, the Christmas Gift Giving Tree for Mt. We thank Brenda Porzio for making and donating the beautiful flag quilt that now hangs permanently on the wall of our new extension. Also, many thanks to the Red, White and Blue Quilters for loaning us some of their quilts to display which not only helps eliminate the echo in the new room, but also, makes the room more decorative. Please stop by and take a look at the creative and artful work that is presented in this room. In the future we hope to display different works of art. STORE PURCHASED BY Adrienne O‟Keeffe Before moving to Meadview, shopping meant a trip to a mall and buying off the shelf. After our move, I started shopping craft fairs and the Gift Gallery for handcrafted items for myself and gifts. A tour through my home will show many of these items on display. I have ceramics by Lynda Eakins and Kay Martin, pottery from Carol Keller and an encaustic wax picture by Nancy Herrin. I have a painting by Dorothy Hudson and one of her ―yo-yo‖ table runners. In needlework, I have two afghans by Karen Stacy, cross stitched towels from Merry Noll, table runners from Marion Johnson and Dee Schmidt and crocheted trivets from JoAnn Sines. I’m lucky to have an Eva Ballance pine needle basket and painted Santas from Sharlet Kish. My youngest grandchildren and greats all have received Libby Maaske’s puff quilts. Whether purchased myself or given to me as gifts, all of these items are special. As you read the names, you will notice that some of the artists are no longer with us or no longer do their crafts. And that makes owning their artwork even more special. So give this some thought as we approach the holiday shopping season. Before heading to the mall, think about shopping at the Gift Gallery or the November Craft Fairs. It definitely will be a rewarding experience.
