TAMARA KISOVAR-IVANDA HIGHER RESEARCH ASSISTENT UNIVERSITY OF ZADAR CROATIA CROATIA IN EUROPE Pre-school education and childcare Pre-school education and childcare is part of the Educational System of the Republic of Croatia. It is designed for children aged from six months to school age. It includes 58% of preschool children. In the year before they start school preschool education programs are covering 99.60% of the children. Preschools in Croatia In Croatia there are 673 kindergartens. Private kindergartens are 238 (35.40%). 175 of them are founded by individuals. 50 kindergartens are established by religious communities. 13 kindergartens are established by different associations. TOTAL NUMBER OF CHILDREN Preschools include 151,514 children. - 5,985 (5.30%) children with disabilities - 1,678 (1.50%) gifted children 61 kindergarten in Croatia was appointed training facility of higher education institutions for professional training of educators. 14 kindergartens are appointed because of their quality as centers of excellence for professional development. EARLY LEARNING OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES IN KINDERGARTENS More than 69% of children between the ages of 4 to 6 age learning a foreign language within the regular kindergarten program. SPORTS PROGRAMS 436 verified sports programs, dance, folklore, football, taekwondo, tennis and so on are implemented in kindergartens. KINDERGARTENS WITH ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMS Montessori pedagogy In Croatia, there are 5 kindergartens which carry out programs based on the principles and pedagogical approaches of Montessori pedagogy. Montessori programs are being implemented in 11 regular kindergartens. Waldorf pedagogy According to the principles of Rudolf Steiner of pedagogy work 5 Waldorf kindergartens. Agazzi Pedagogy 1 kindergarten works according to the principles of the Agazzi sisters which was established by Kiara Lubich. Reformed Studies for Preschool Teachers FROM NEXT ACADEMIC YEAR: PRESCHOOL TEACHERS’ STUDY MA (3+2) UNIVERSITY STUDY: DURATION OF STUDY:5 YEARS CREDITS: 300 ECTS The concept of university study BASIC COURSES are oriented towards educational scientific theories and core competencies. OPTIONAL COURSES are oriented toward specific competencies within the profession. They train educators to implement specific activities in kindergartens. The vertical stream towards further study at postgraduate level Organization of university studies for educators of preschool children will ensure vertical mobility towards further study at postgraduate level (PhD level). Graduates of the MA level will be able to involve in doctoral studies. Modules of the first three years of study (BA level) THE MODULE OF GENERAL SUBJECTS: Croatian language, foreign language, Philosophy of Education, Mathematical Culture etc. PEDAGOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL MODULE: General Pedagogy, Family Pedagogy, Pedagogy of Early and Preschool Education, Developmental Psychology, Psychology of Learning and Teaching, Physical Education, Research Methodology in Education, Ecology etc. INTEGRATED METHODICAL MODULE: The Genres in Children's Literature, Croatian Children's Literature, Puppetry and Drama, Visual Arts Teaching Methods in an Integrated Curriculum, Music Art Teaching Methods in an Integrated Curriculum, Kinesiological Teaching Methods in an Integrated Curriculumetc. MODULE OF PRACTICAL COMPETENCIES: Professional Practice in Kindergartens Modules of the first three years of study (BA level) OPTIONAL COURSES: Drama Workshop, Communication Skills of Educators, Information Technology Literacy, Family at Risk, Heritage and Preschooler, Educational Work with Gifted Children, VisualCommunication, Children's visual Creativity , Children's Musical Creativity, Children's Creativity in Motion, Partnership of Families and Preschools, Children's Speech and Creativity, Children's Rights, Working with Children with Disorders Behavior, Croatian Oral Literature for Children, etc. The final two years according to the new program MA level THE MODULE OF GENERAL SUBJECTS: Academic Writing and Communication, Culture of the Spirit, Academic Writing in English, Elementary Statistics in Social Research PEDAGOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL MODULE: The New Paradigm of Early and Pre-school Education, Psychology Children's Games, Inclusive Education, the World Children's Literature, Pedagogical Leadership and Management of Pre-school Institutions, Museum Pedagogy, Contemporary Literal Theory, Action Research in Early and pre-school education, Lutkarke games, professional Competencies of Educators MODULE OF PRACTICAL COMPETENCIES:professional practice in kindergartens The final two years according to the new program MA level OPTIONAL COURSES: Ecology, Mathematical Games, Picture Book and a Preschooler, Early Media Literacy, Croatian Children's Classics, Puppet Play, Positive Psychology, Sports Programs for Preschoolers, Partnership of Educators and Parents of Children with Disabilities, The Rights of Children with Special Needs, New Media and Creative Practice, Dance.
