YOUR NEW COMFORT ZONE
Jeanne Chapman
It’s that time of year again; the New Year

and the accompanying resolutions you
hope to keep.
Of course, we all want to lose some
weight, exercise more, eat healthy and
keep in touch with family and friends. 
BUT, why not make some changes that
will help you step out of your COMFORT
ZONE and move forward.
A friend from the Senior Center did just
that. She went skydiving and had a
wonderful time. The event will be etched 
in her memory forever. I certainly admire
her for her sense of bravado. That said,
no one is asking you to jump out of a
plane but what about choosing something
that is doable for you.


Take an art or creative writing class or 
learn the rudiments of a new
language. You don’t have to be
perfect but your life will expand.
Try a new recipe once a week or
month.
Cook from scratch and
become a Martha Stewart or Bobbie 
Flay. Cooking is an art form - paint a
culinary picture.
Adopt an older animal which might not
find a home. Animals are not fussy.
Give them love and they will give it
back double-fold. A winner!

Befriend a neighbor or acquaintance.
Help someone get to the grocery store
or doctor. How about lunch out or
bring over a simple meal if the person
is housebound. Once a week is a gift
you can give.

Take advantage of our wonderful
trips at the Senior Center. Gamble
once month, visit a museum, dine out
at a great restaurant. The Center is a
wonderful place to start exploring new
places and meeting new people.
Get outside and enjoy the “winter
weather”. Take walks on the beach or
gather together with a few folks and
go on a picnic at a local park. Swing
on the swings. Play some yard
games.
OR, if the sky is the limit, go
skydiving, snorkeling, mountain
climbing, spelunking, or conquer a
phobia like giving a speech, and just
let it all hang out!
If you are not computer savvy, take a
few lessons or have a friend help you
to get started. This is a computerized

ourselves due to lack of knowledge. Life is a journey and the more places you

Healthy New Year's
resolutions for seniors
The New Year means new starts, and that
typically involves making New Year's
resolutions.
While the old-faithful
standbys still exist, adults over the age of
65 can greatly benefit from making
healthy resolutions – especially those that
help prevent illness and injury. Here are
five New Year's resolutions that will keep
you feeling young and vibrant:
Add unbeaten egg whites,
stirring with a spoon until
mixture forms a dough.
Form dough into 15 balls.
Place on a parchment
lined baking sheet. Bake
16 to 19 minutes, until
glossy and crackled. Let
cookies cool on baking
sheet briefly then transfer
to a wire rack to cool
completely. Makes 15.
