 About 400 inspectors are trained by NACE, KACE and FROSIO on 2008
in Korea as certified inspectors, but less than 30% of certified inspectors
are working for inspection in shipbuilding business.

Inspection Cost (USD)
 In case of qualified shipyard, inspection cost is negligible as
indicated by blue line.
 Inspection cost of unqualified shipyard is extremely high as
indicated by red line (≈ PSPC Requirement).

Solution for proper implementation
Lack of Certified Coating Inspector
 Assistance from other persons to do the part of the inspections
under the coating inspector’s supervision. (Adopted by IACS)
 Integrated Inspection with PSPC and General Coating

Solution for proper implementation
Cost Increment
 Inspectors must have authority to reduce the inspection scope
depending on the Builder’s quality level.
 Worker qualification is more reasonable approach to enhance
the coating performance instead of excessive inspection.
 Automating the Inspection Reporting and Review System
