Christensen trained under the reknowned Georg Jensen, and became the lead silversmith and head of the prototype department. His career took off in 1952 when Christensen was sent to New York to represent the Georg Jensen firm at the Museum of Modern Art. As a craftsman, he emphasized the importance of making objects for people that specifically defined their personality and individuality. His pieces are held in collections all over the world including numerous churches, the Vatican and in the collections of Royal families, past United States Presidents and Congressmen. Hans Christensen held many prestigious awards throughout his career, including two medallions from King Frederick of Denmark, the Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching by RIT, and was named to lifelong status as a Fellow of the American Crafts Council in 1979. Christensen was the only endowed chair in the crafts for the Charlotte F.
