Kittery Adult Education Art Auction A Success By Julie Patten Over $3200.00 was raised at a silent auction held in May at the Kittery Community Center Morgan Art Gallery for the Louise Whelton Art Scholarship Fund designed to benefit Traip Academy students pursuing a career in the arts. Watercolors by Louise Whelton were available for preview and bidding, culminating in the final bidding on May 7th. An art walk followed from KCC to Traip Academy where a reception was held and the winning bids were announced. Lorraine Robida, director of Kittery Adult Education announced the auction high-bidders and thanked those who facilitated the event. Specifically she mentioned Janice Gray, Todd Henley and Jeremy Paul of the Kittery Community Center for their generosity and cooperation in hosting the artwork and taking the bids and Anne Kazazis for her assistance in hanging the artwork. She thanked her staff , “The Dream Team,” for their time and dedication to making the event a success: Suzan Darcy, resident digital artist; Cindy Furbish, detail guru; and Jeremy Jane, “the heart of Kittery adult education.” Louise Whelton, a long-time Eliot resident, had a passion for art, but attributed being able to fine tune that skill to her approximately eight years of art lessons at Marshwood and Kittery Adult Education. In appreciation for what these adult education programs and what her instructors did for her, Louise entrusted over 100 pieces of her artwork to the program at Traip before her death last spring. Louise, as demonstrated by her generous contribution to the scholarship fund, recognized that adult education allows everyone the opportunity to be inspired to reach their greatest aspirations. She was inspired to reach her aspirations and with the creation of this scholarship, she will inspire others to reach theirs. The mission of the Kittery School Department is “Educating For Life”. www.kittery.maineadulted.org 207-439-5896 SAD 35 School Board News 27 District News and Information: Our updated MSAD 35 Web Site (http://www.rsu35.org) is a wonderful resource that provides information about our District, each of our five District schools, Adult Education, MEF and our School Board.
