caelus Anaesthesia workstation TECHNOLOGY OF THE FUTURE AVAILABLE TODAY Anaesthesia & critical care equipment - made in Belgium a smart choice. Patient safety caelus a smart choice. Reliability Cost efficiency ✔ The most complete anaesthesia workstation ✔ Patient safety, reliablity and cost efficiency combined in a single unit ✔ Developed and manufactured by Medec Benelux nv, Belgium Caelus is Medec’s culmination of 40 years of research and development in the field of anaesthesia workstations. Capable of ventilating neonates of approximately 1 kg, infants and morbidly obese adults. Built with the latest technology available today, the Caelus offers many unique features, safeties and an extreme high level performance. The ergonomically designed trolley with plenty of working space and storage room enhances your comfort while an 18,5 inch capacitive touchscreen shows all crucial information at a glance. TECHNOLOGY OF THE FUTURE, AVAILABLE TODAY Intuitive user interface, PureTouch ® Medec Puretouch ® allows you to swipe from one waveform to another in a fluent motion and browse through settings effortlessly with an unprecedented simplicity and visual acuity. Thanks to the smooth and responsive graphics, changing parameters was never easier. The 18,5 inch full-colour touch screen controls the gas mixer (RotaSphere ® ) and displays all ventilation parameters, without the need to use any rotary knob. The user interface can be easily configured. All changes are effected directly on the touch screen display by the touch of a finger. (Medical mouse connection for screen control also available.) Ventilation modes simplified, user-friendly and most complete To reduce part of your workload we have simplified ventilation mode nomenclature and reduced the endless list of cryptic abbreviations without compromising on the ventilator functionality. Volume-controlled VC-CMV VC-SIMV PRVC VC-Var-CMV VC-Var-SIMV VC-CMV-Dflow VC-SIMV-Dflow HLM mode Pressure-controlled PCV S-PCV PC-CPAP-PS PCV-PS Spontaneous/assisted Spont Spont/CPAP Spont/PS Spont/CPAP/PS HLM mode Caelus offers you standard all possibilities of the cryptic list above by setting the required parameters within either volume control, pressure control or pressure support. Ventilator tidal volume and respiratory rate can also be based on Ideal Body Weight calculation (IBW) as this feature is standard included. a smart choice. Patient safety and unique ventilation modes Medec’s next-generation bag-in-bottle ventilator guarantees the safest and most natural form of mechanical ventilation. Ventilating from neonates to adults without changing any bag or bellow. Offering unique ventilation modes and advanced patient safety features that include: Voluprotect ® automatically protects the lungs against volutrauma during manual and spontaneous ventilation in case of a closed APL valve by automatically opening the circle system when a critical point of 20 cmH2O is exceeded for 6 seconds. BaroProtect ® automatically protects the lungs in Volume Control and Synchronised Volume Control against unexpected pressure spikes (e.g. due to changing lung compliance). The inspiratory pressure limit for BaroProtect ® is implemented as the average peak pressure + 10 cmH2O, regardless of the setting for the upper pressure limit. Auto-positive end-expiratory pressure (auto-PEEP) is a common problem in patients receiving full or partial ventilatory support, as well as in those ready to be weaned from the ventilator. Physicians should be alert for it and take measures to reduce it, as it can have serious consequences. Caelus measures and alarms auto-PEEP. Variability in Mechanical Ventilation Controlled mechanical ventilation is characterized by a fixed breathing frequency and tidal volume. Physiological and mathematical models have demonstrated the beneficial effects of varying tidal volume and/ or inspiratory pressure during positive-pressure ventilation. Variable ventilation offers a new physiological approach to lung recruitment without the negative hemodynamic effects from markedly elevated intrathoracic pressures. Next-generation ventilator. Technology of the future available today. The 8 years free software upgrade program, guarantees that the Caelus stays up-to-date during your complete ownership. TECHNOLOGY OF THE FUTURE, AVAILABLE TODAY caelus Level of Hypnosis and Nociception Caelus can be equipped with the qCON-qNOX module (optional) for measuring the level of hypnosis and the level of nociception (response to pain stimulus). qCON monitors consciousness (EEG and EMG) and allows you to tailor the hypnotics to each individual patient, providing improved patient outcome and reduced costs. qNOX monitors nociception during general anaesthesia. When using both consciousness and nociception monitoring, hypnotics and analgesics can be dosed more accurately, reducing PONV and length of stay in post-operative care units. Adding to the cost-efficiency, no custom-made EEG sensor is required. Common EEG electrodes are compatible with the qCON-qNOX module. Gas analyser module Caelus can be equipped with an optional gas analyser with autoidentification, which allows the measurement of inspiratory and expiratory gas concentrations including FIO2, ETO2, FICO2, ETCO2, FIN2O, ETN2O, FIAA1, ETAA1, FIAA2 and ETAA2. With the optional gas analyser waveforms and digital readout for CO2, O2, AA1, AA2 and N2O can be displayed on screen. The analysis of the Minimal Alveolar Concentration (MAC) is agecompensated using the algorithm of W.W. Mapleson (British Journal of Anaesthesia 1996, p. 179 - 185). It automatically compensates for barometric pressure. The analysis of CO2, N2O and AA is based on infrared spectrometry. The analysis of O2 is based on paramagnetic detection without the need of daily calibration. Digital Flow Sensors Caelus is equipped with two autoclavable digital flow sensors. These sensors measure the flow rate of gas (bi-directionally) with superb accuracy. The special design of the flow channel results in a very low pressure drop. The sensors have a very fast response time and are not susceptible for moisture, allowing superior performance at low flows and are fully calibrated and temperature compensated. The auto-calibration gives you the advantage that no re-calibration of the flow sensors is required. a smart choice. Fully automatic start-up test, including leakage and compliance measurement During start-up of the system an auto-test is performed completely automatically. The auto-test checks the system integrity, checks the fresh gas mixer, the ventilator and performs the leak test and compliance measurement, which can be skipped in case of emergency. The full auto-test takes maximum 4 minutes. Caelus will compensate for compliance, leakage, resistance and fresh gas flows during mechanical ventilation. Absorber and PBU The Patient Breathing Unit (PBU) is fully autoclavable up to 134 ˚C and easily removable without the need for special tools. The PBU contains a water trap to reduce the condensation in the breathing circle. The absorber is integrated into the PBU and is easily attached or detached thanks to a user friendly click system. If the canister is detached from the PBU the CO2 bypass is activated, closing the breathing circle automatically. Both reusable and disposable canisters are available. caelus TECHNOLOGY OF THE FUTURE, AVAILABLE TODAY Technical Data Operational characteristics Weight Dimensions (H x W x D) Display type Diagonal size Writing surface (H x W x D) Number of drawers Drawers (internal) Mains power Integrated battery backup time Auxiliary power outlets 130 kg, basic equipment 141,1 cm (55,5 in) x 92,8 cm (36,5 in) x 77,5 cm (30,5 in) TFT full-colour capacitive touch screen 46,9 cm (18,5 in) 90 cm (35,4 in) x 84,80 cm (33,4 in) x 53 cm (20,9 in) 3 (1 lockable) 10 cm (3,9 in) x 23,8 cm (9,4 in) x 39,9 cm (15,7 in) 100 - 240 V, AC 50 - 60 Hz 90 minutes minimum 4 Environment conditions Temperature 10 - 40 °C (50 - 104 °F) Air pressure 570 - 1060 hPa (428 - 795 mmhg) equivalent of 4.000 meter of height Humidity 10 - 95% (non-condensing) Fresh Gas delivery - electronic flowmeter Fresh gas flow Delivery type 0 2 flush Backup 0 2 flow Smart ORC Auxiliary 0 2 output connection Off ; 0,25 to 30 L/min non-decoupled ≥ 35 l/min at 2,8 bar 0 - 15 l/min 21 to 100% in air ; 25 to 100% in N2 0 ; min 250ml 100% 2,8 - 6 Bar / 40,6 - 87 psi / 280 - 600 kPa for external 02 flowmeter Common Gas outlet (for semi-open breathing systems) Connection external fresh gas outlet 22 mm OD, 15 mm ID External connections Serial ports 2x 9 pole D-sub connector USB ports 2x USB 2.0 ; type A Network port 1x RJ45 Ventilator (pneumatically driven, electronically controlled) Standard ventilation modes VC-CMV, VC-SIMV, PRVC (DSR flow), VC-Var-CMV, VC-Var-SIMV, VC-CMV-Dflow, VC-SIMV-Dflow, HLM mode, PCV, S-PCV, PC-CPAP-PS, PCV-PS, Spont, Spont/CPAP, Spont/PS, Spont/CPAP/PS Patient type Neonates, pediatric, infants and adult patients Tidal volume 5 to 1600ml Peak Pressure (Ppeak) 4 - 70 hPa / mbar / cmH2 0 Pressure limitation 7 - 100 hPa / mbar / cmH2 0 Pressure support (Psupport) 0 - 51 hPa / mbar / cmH2 0 PEEP / CPAP Off ; 1 - 31 hPa / mbar / cmH2 0 Respiratory rate 2 - 100 bpm Backup RR - PSV Off ; 2 - 60 bpm Backup Peak Pressure PSV 4 - 70 hPa / mbar / cmH2 0 I:E ratio 4:1 to 1:10 (increments of 0.5) Inspiratory flow 0 to 180 l/min Flow patern VC constant flow, decelerating flow or DSR flow Flow patern PC Rise time slow / medium or fast End of flow PS 50 - 5% Inspiratory pause 0 - 60% Trigger (flow and pressure) Off ; 0,2 to 10 lpm or 0.4 hPa to 10 hPa / mbar / cmH2 0 Trigger window 5% to 50% Variability VC Off ; 90% - 110% / 80% - 120% / 75% - 130% General Latex use No parts of the breathing system contains latex.
