New Year, New
Opportunities, Same
Great Experience
Dear Members,
The New Year brings
new opportunities, and
that’s especially true for
me and our club! I am
honored that the board
asked me to lead our club as it conducts
a thorough search for a new general
manager.
Claudio Caviglia led our club to
new heights in his decade of service. We
wish him all the best and thank him for
his dedication. Personally, I want to thank
Claudio for all that he has done for me
and my career and for serving as a great
mentor on how club leadership
is executed.
Please be assured that the Union
Club staff and I are here to deliver
platinum-level service and continue our
club’s progress. We are excited for what
the future holds and look forward to a
healthy, happy, and prosperous 2015.
If you need anything, don’t hesitate
to contact me directly!

Meet New Members
Welcome to the Union Club
Bryan Blackburn is a financial advisor with the Lowrie & Carney Wealth
Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors. He and Alyse, a pricing
analyst with Majestic Steel, are native Clevelanders, Ohio State University
graduates, and avid sports enthusiasts. They get outdoors as much as possible, whether for a round of golf, hiking, or hitting the ski slopes.
Dan Brady is an associate at the wealth advisory firm Hartland. “One of
the perks of working downtown is the proximity to the Union Club, so
I had to take full advantage,” he said. Dan and his rose-gardening wife
Maggie live in Fairview Park. He enjoys baseball statistics and is a member
of the Society for American Baseball Research.
Frank Leone is a limited partner with Edward Jones Investments and
serves in a leadership role for the firm’s Cleveland Region. He is also president of the Kiwanis Club of Port Clinton. Frank and his wife Adriana enjoy
traveling to exotic locations. They reside in North Ridgeville with their son.
Bryan Stubbs is executive director of the Cleveland Water Alliance. Recruited to Northeast Ohio on a three-year assignment as managing director of
the Oberlin Project, Bryan, together with his wife Joy Harrison (teacher,
jazz guitarist, and vocalist) and their daughter, decided to make Oberlin
home. Bryan and Joy like travel, the arts, and Manhattans.
Todd Tucker is a partner in Calfee, Halter & Griswold’s intellectual property
group. He has visited Asia 14 times in the last five years. Recently, the
Shanghai and Shenzhen branches of the Chinese Patent Office invited him
to teach Chinese patent attorneys about U.S. patent law. He and Shavaun
live in Westlake with their three children.
Staff Honors
James Jones Named
2014 Employee of the Year
James Jones, a private dining room server
who subs as captain when needed, was
named the club’s 2014 Employee of
the Year, based on a staff vote. James,
who has been with the club since 1983,
received the same honor in 2005.
“James has allowed me and many of
our Oswald Companies associates to dine
in comfort and total ease with clients and
friends. His smile, warmth, and ‘people
skills’ are truly uncommon. James is always
the diplomat, always gracious, and always
fun,” said Marc Byrnes, echoing the
sentiments of many members and staff.
Take a moment to share your good
wishes!
Desiree Randle-Gaines
Honored for Service
Also worthy of congratulations is Main
Dining Room Server Desiree RandleGaines. At the December 2014 staff
meeting, she was honored for 30 years

Japanese Whiskys
Focus of March 4 Tasting
Whisky distilling in Japan is less than a
century old, yet Japanese whiskys today
rank among the world’s best. “Worldwide demand has forced many Japanese
whiskys into back order. Serving
Japanese whiskys now, when they’re
so hot, puts us ahead of the curve,” said
Howard Edelstein, host of the club’s
annual whisky dinner, set this year for
6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4.
Joe Deluca, founder of the United
States Bartenders Guild, will lead a tasting of five Japanese whiskys, including
Nikka Coffey Grain and Suntory Hibiki.
“We will add three more award-winning
selections, making for a great lineup of
whiskys that are very unusual and in very
high demand. You will have the chance
to compare the best Japanese whiskys
to the Scotches you’ve tasted in the
past,” said Howard. Small-plate courses
prepared by Chef Matt are included.
“Legends of Whisky” is the new
name for this highly popular event,
which includes fun and practical prizes.
Attendance is limited to 100 people, up
from 80 in past years, and members are
permitted to bring three guests. Cost is
$105 plus tax and service charge. Call
now for reservations!

What Are Your Fitness Resolutions?
“My fitness goal is to maintain the strength I’ve gained
by working out for the past
seven years. I’ll achieve it by
working out in the Fitness
Center four to six days per
week, combining cardio
(elliptical and treadmill) and
weights.”
“My goals are to better manage
my weight and increase my
strength by means of cardio
(bike and treadmill) and weights
five or six days a week. I use My
Fitness Pal to monitor calorie
intake.”
“I want to be in the Fitness
Center five days a week, first
thing in the morning, and find
exercises that strengthen knees
and shoulders. I hope to be able
to use ‘big boy’ weights for my
arms by the middle of 2015!”
“This year, the key word is
‘routine.’ I try to use the Fitness Center in the early morning, shooting for every day,
and do a little of everything.
I hope to augment this with
fitness classes.”
