Point Cook Community Learning Centre Newsletter 1-21 Cheetham Street, Point Cook Phone 9395 6399 email: [email protected] Term 3 2016 Term 1, 2015 Term 1 2016 For details take a peek inside or speak to our friendly staff! Zongzi dumplings for everyone! The Point Cook Chinese Friendship Group celebrated the Dumpling Festival reliving pleasures of days gone by. The festival is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the Chinese Lunar calendar, this year falling on 9 June. Festivities included song, dance & mouth watering Zongzi, yummy moments of yesteryear, steaming fragrant parcels of sticky rice and meat treats wrapped in bamboo leaves. The group meets at the Centre every Thursday between 10am-4pm. RED Recycling & Education=Difference Recycling your soft plastics made even easier with a RED bin now located at the Centre. Western Regional Environment Centre together with Wyndham LitterWatch RED launched their Litter Watch ‘Soft Plastic’ recycling pilot project. The project encourages residents to recycle soft plastics which will be recycled by Australian owned company REPLAS into 200 useful products such as outdoor furniture & decking. The project was launched by the Honourable Joanne Ryan MP, Councillors Bob Fairclough & Intaj Khan. RACE Hengameh Ghaderi INTIMACY a photographic exhibition Hengameh and her family immigrated to Australia from Iran ten years ago, first to Geelong and then Point Cook. She studied photographic imaging at RMIT, finishing in 2015. Intimacy will be her first public exhibition outside of RMIT. Her stunning family photographic portraits capture peaceful, contemplative moments with the subjects singularly framed in intimate stances in public places. Surfacing inner thoughts and emotions leave it to the viewer to interpret. There is the presence of protest, loneliness and isolation, telling another visual story, to which the backgrounds add further depth.
