Barry Fisher - Is the Crime Laboratory Director for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's
Department. He has worked in most of the sections of the laboratory and supervised the
Trace Evidence and Toxicology Sections. He is a Distinguish Fellow and past-president of
the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. His textbook, Techniques of Crime Scene
Investigation, in its 7th edition, enjoys wide popularity. This presentation is designed to
inform attendees about a number of issues facing forensic science providers in public
agencies. Barry Fisher, a past president of several national and international forensic
associations, Including the AAFS, American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors and
the International Association of Forensic Sciences, has been advocate for forensic
science over a number of years and regularly travels to Washingto/l, DC to represent the
American Academy of Forensic Sciences in meeting in Coogressand thea.dministration.
Fisher will speak on wide ranging issues, including recent Daubert related concerns
relating to forensic science reliability and Brady material regarding the duty to turn over
exculpatory material relevant to the outcome of criminal litigations to the defense. Fisher
will discuss the role of the Consortium of Forensic Science Orga/lizations and their efforts
to secure more federal funding for forensic science and the unprecedented cooperation
from a host of organizations who are stakeholders of forensic science providers. Fisher
will describe one of the latest issues to emerge following 9/11: Homeland Security
and forensic sciences. The purpose of this session is go give participants an informed
briefing of the many challenges facing administrators as well as some insights in how to
successfully face them.
Dr. Steve Nawrocki -Is an Associate Professor of Biology and Anthropology at the
University of Indianapolis, where he has taught anatomy, osteology, and human biology
since 1991. He received his B.A. in Anthropology and Psychology from the University
of Maine at Orono in 1985, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Anthropology from the State
University of New York at Binghamton i./11990 and 1992. His research interests include
the determination of age and ancestry from the skeleton, environmental processes
affecting buried human skeletal remains, and forensic archeology. Dr. Nawrocki has
considerable field experience, ranging from the excavation of a 17th century fort
on the coast of Maine to the disinterment of 81 burials from a late 19th century
poorhouse cemetery in upstate New York. He currently serves as a Consulting Forensic
Anthropologist for police, coroners, and pathologists in the midwest, having assisted
on over 100 human remains cases to datE!.'In his capacity as Director of Osteology for
the University of Indianapolis Archeology and Forensics Laboratory, he has assisted
the Indiana Department of Natural Resources on numerous accidental discoveries of
prehistoric and historic skeletons.

Dr. Henry Lee - Is an adjunct professor for the University of New Haven, University
of Connecticut Law School and Quinnipiac Law School. He is an adjunct professor at
11 medical schools, colleges, universities and law schools. Dr. Lee has assisted law
enforcement agencies and investigated 6,000 major investigations and cases around
the world. He has testified over 1,000 times in both criminal and civil cases. He serves
as a consultant for over 300 police and law enforcement agencies. He has served as an
expert witness in many high profiles investigations and national and international known
cases for both the prosecution and defense.
