Content is appropriate for other healthcare professionals including registered nurses. Conference Objectives • Incorporate the 2016 ACIP and AAP recommendations for the use of vaccines in infants, children and adolescents; recognize clinical manifestations of emerging infections, such as Zika virus and apply the latest recommendations for evaluation and management • Recognize barriers to offering routine confidential sexual health services; list recommended, routine, and annual STI screening tests for sexually active adolescent females; recognize office systems changes that can improve routine adolescent STI screening • Describe the differences between normal variation of growth and growth failure; appreciate the normal process of puberty and its variations in signs and timing of pubertal changes; address abnormalities in thyroid labs and correlate their findings to thyroid disease • Identify the risk and common cause of sudden cardia death in young athletes; recognize current recommendations for ancillary cardiac testing; develop pre-participation screening practices to decrease the chance of cardiac complications • Properly determine the etiology of acute ataxia; determine when urgent testing, treatment, consultation and/or admission is warranted • Distinguish which babies with prenatal hydronephrosis require surveillance or treatment; identify newborns with genital anomalies requiring further investigation • Comply with AAP standards of care regarding appropriate practice for newborn hearing screening, follow-up, and intervention; recognize how learning changes may present in the clinical setting, both in regards to being under-recognized as well as over-attributed in evaluating development • Identify the causes of chronic and acute poverty and the consequences of poverty for children; identify families facing poverty and assist them with finding appropriate community resources • Identify key points of vulnerability; identify ways to mitigate theft in practice; recognize the impact theft of data, assets, and money plays in the ability to deliver quality medical care • Recognize the features of the most common cleft and craniofacial conditions along with concerns regarding feeding, speech and oral health; describe the concept of multi-disciplinary team care of cleft and craniofacial conditions; recognize the psychosocial concerns regarding facial difference for these children and their families Red River Potpourri Conference Hotel Hilton Shreveport 104 Market Street Shreveport, Louisiana 71101 A specific block of rooms is available for this conference until the block is sold or until Thursday, August 4, 2016.
