As the story goes, Sherman Kelly the founder of The Zeroll Co. was
stuck by inspiration while on vacation in West Palm Beach, Florida,
when he observed a young woman dipping ice cream. Noticing
the blisters on her hand from the constant use of the disher in the
hard ice cream. In 1933, Sherman Kelly developed the design for
the Zeroll® Ice Cream Dipper and received a patent. The dipper
was a non-mechanical ice cream scoop, made of cast aluminum,
with fluid inside the handle. Its unique design transferred heat from
the user’s hand, warming the fluid, which in turn defrosted the ice
cream dipper. Kelly had created the world’s first modern ice cream
scoop.
Unfortunately, Sherman Kelly’s passing in 1950 coupled with the relocation of the company to Maumee, Ohio in 1953, and a rebranding
effort that changed the name Zeroll Co. to Roll Dippers, Inc. trigged
a slow period for the company. In 1968, Tom and Art Funka purchased
the company and took on the challenge of turning the company back into the
successful business it once was.
In the mid-1980’s, The Zeroll Co. developed the Zerolon® line of scoops, a line
that featured scoops hardcoat anodized and sealed with Teflon® to protect
against hard or over-chlorinated water. Then, in 1989, The Zeroll Co. introduced
yet another unique product to the Foodservice Industry and the Retail Market,
the Universal EZ Disher, a one-piece, ergonomically designed, spring-less food
portioner, available in thirteen sizes. The Universal EZ Disher quickly became the
disher of choice for restaurants, hotels and cafeterias all over the world.

A Company History
In recent years, a new era in product development began for The Zeroll Co. The Zeroll Ice Cream
Scoop became dish washer safe with a new and improve protective coating. The Universal EZ
Disher was re-introduced with a solid stainless steel gear and shaft among other improvements.
Ussentials, a new line of small-ware products was launched. The Original TubMate® Spade was
re-designed with a longer handle and thicker blade. The Zelato® Spade, a brand new product
designed as a portioner for Gelato, joined the Zeroll product line to rave reviews.
In 2008, The Zeroll Company was acquired by The Legacy Companies. The Legacy Companies
was founded in 1998 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The Legacy Companies owns such world famous
foodservice brands as General Slicing, Maxximum, Omega and Zeroll.
2010 marks the 75th anniversary of The Zeroll Co., a feat that is unmatched in the industry. From
humble beginnings in a garage 75 years ago, The Zeroll Co. is proud of its heritage and will continue to be a pioneer in the world of small wares for years to come. Today, the beauty and utility

The Zeroll Ice Cream Scoop
Increase profits using portion management with the Original Zeroll Ice Cream Scoop.
For example, the base weight per gallon of ice cream is about 72 ounces. A three
gallon tub will yield about 108 portions using a size 20 scoop. Use the size chart (below) and the per gallon weight to manage your servings.
Then your staff can get correct yields with these serving tips:
● Hold the scoop handle comfortably in either hand, down toward the bowl.
● Draw the scoop toward you at an angle of about 45 degrees.
● Turn the scoop, lifting portion out of the container and press against cone or dish.
