OPERA AT THE SENIOR CENTER
The opera program is presented on the first Tuesday of the month. The opera for April 5 will be Giuseppe
Verdi’s UN BALLO IN MASCHERA. In 1792 King Gustaf lll of Sweden was shot at a masked ball, and this
was the starting point for Verdi’s opera. But before it could be performed in Rome in 1859, the composer had
to deal with a whole series of problems with the censor. The opera’s triumphant career began when the action was moved to Boston and all references to real-life figures were removed. Verdi’s music for Un Ballo in
Maschera is some of his most sophisticated and subtle. Playing time is 138 minutes.
“SONY SUNDAY” MOVIE PRESENTATIONS
The SONY SUNDAY movie for this month will be presented on Sunday, April 3 at 1:00 p.m. The SONY movie
featured will be SPECTRE, the 24th “Official” James Bond/007 movie. The big-screen adventure continues the
Bond tradition of mixing fast paced action sequences with high tech gadgets, nasty villains and a little bit of love
interest. We thank SONY for providing us with our SONY SUNDAY films!
MOVIE NOSTALGIA
The Movie Nostalgia program is presented on one Sunday of the month. For April 17, enjoy BUTCH CASSIDY
AND THE SUNDANCE KID. Settle back with your favorite sidekick and enjoy Hollywood’s original buddy picture. Paul Newman and Robert Redford have never shined brighter in the roles that will forever identify them
as the daring, debonair outlaws on the run-and both in love with the same beautiful woman! (Katherine Ross).
KARAOKE
Join “Karaoke Friends” on Tuesdays, 11:00-12:30 in the Nutrition Site
Also, join “Tony & Friends” on Wednesday, 2:30-4:30 p.m. for an enjoyable

SHOWTIME

Film rating symbols are included in the movie listings for your information.

A Message...
FROM THE CCSCA
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
SENIOR OF THE MONTH
Shirley Kym Campbell
The Culver City Senior Citizens
Association Board of Directors is
pleased to honor
Shirley Kym Campbell
Senior of the Month for April 2016
For seven years, Shirley has been a
very active volunteer at the Senior
Center. Her volunteer activities were
inspired by her experiences with the elders in her own family.
She took them to the Veterans Building for Kitty’s exercise
classes after suffering strokes and using walkers. When
Shirley broke her leg, the instructor suggested she look into
Senior Center classes that were modified as chair exercises.
She found the Center to be full of wonderful people and decided to volunteer here. Presently Shirley is in evidence at all special events, including serving at our large parties and helping in
the lunchroom. She is also the enthusiastic instructor for the
Wednesday Crochet & Knitting Class and a member of the
CCSCA Board of Directors. She has had extensive experience
serving on other Boards and wishes to contribute her skills and
personal strengths to make this Senior Center the best it can be.
Since 1970, California has been home. Shirley worked
many years for GM, returned to school and then pursued a long
career in the aerospace industry. She also has her Chef’s license and enjoys working on parties, especially Quinceaneras.
In addition to being accomplished in knitting and crocheting,
Shirley is a very talented artist and enjoys crafts and making
model airplanes and cars.
Shirley continues to volunteer because it energizes her and
gives her strength to endure whatever happens in life. She considers the other volunteers “like family” and really appreciates
the contributions of all our dedicated volunteers.
And we appreciate all Shirley does for all of you!
To All CCSCA Members:
A few friendly reminders to our members regarding the use of the Culver City Senior Center:

Caregivers (18 & Older)
If you or your guardians have determined that
you require a caregiver, the caregiver must accompany you at ALL TIMES while you are in any City
facility or CCSCA program. CCSCA members and
their caregivers must be in visual site of one another. In the Fitness Room, caregivers must stay in
the room at all times and are not allowed to use
the equipment. Caregivers are allowed to mirror
participants during exercise class or sit & monitor,
but not participate independently.

For your safety, please do not move chairs or
tables...ask City staff or Haynes staff for help.

The tables in the hallway are available on a first
come, first served basis. Please clean up
your table area when you leave. We have
noticed a lot of trash being left on the floor and
on the window ledges.
These reminders are to insure the
comfort and safety of all involved and
we thank you for your cooperation.
