It points out Safety precautions. This SAFETY symbol means: ATTENTION: BE ALERT Why is SAFETY important to you? THREE BIG REASONS: *ACCIDENTS DISABLE AND KILL *ACCIDENTS COST *ACCIDENTS CAN BE AVOIDED Failure to read this Auger manual before operation of the Auger is a misuse of the equipment and a needless risk to your HEALTH and SAFETY. Your life and limbs are worth keeping. Use this equipment with care. Symbol Signal Words: DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION The appropriate signal word for each message has been selected using the following guidelines below the Alert Symbol. BE ALERT! D DA AN NG GE ER R – Indicates an imminently hazardous situation that, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. This signal word is to be limited to the most extreme situations, typically for machine components that, for functional purposes, cannot be guarded. W WA AR RN NIIN NG G – Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury, and includes hazards that are exposed when guards are removed. It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices. C CA AU UTTIIO ON N – Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury. It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices. Page 2 Important, Do not disconnect the cable from the winch, this option is installed without disconnection of the cable from the winch! Step # 1 Lower the swing hopper to the ground, leaving the cable attached to the swing hopper. Make sure that the cable has some slack, this will insure that the winch does not have tension on it. Step #2 Remove the winch handle. Retain the hardware. Step #3 Remove the bent pin that holds the winch assembly to the auger infeed housing. This will allow the winch to be removed from the auger. Place the winch assembly on the ground or work platform. Winch assembly should look like the images below. ( note: shown without cable) Page 3 Step #5 Remove the (3) 3/8” x 1” carriage bolts so the winch is free from the mounting bracket. Retain the nuts and bolts, these will be needed to re-mount the winch. Step #6 Install the winch motor mount bracket and guard mount using (3) 3/8” x 1” carriage bolts and flange nuts. LEAVE LOOSE! NOTE THE SLOT USED FOR EACH WINCH MODEL! DO NOT TIGHTEN BOLTS! Use this slotted hole SHELBY MODEL 5352 SHOWN Page 4 NOTE THE SLOT USED FOR EACH WINCH MODEL DO NOT TIGHTEN BOLTS! Note that (2) washers are required for the DUTTON LAINSON WINCH ONLY! These washers will slide into the winch bushing on the Dutton Lainson winch and will space the hub away from the winch bushing. Shelby winch shown Washers used only on Dutton Lainson winch Dutton Lainson winch shown Page 6 Step #8 Install the motor support with (2) 3/8” x 1” carriage bolts and 3/8” hex flange nuts. The bracket has an “S” (Shelby) or “D” (Dutton Lainson) laser cut into the corresponding set of holes for the respective winches. The bolt holes are slotted to allow the hydraulic motor to be adjusted to align with the winch coupler. Do not tighten the bolts! Shelby winch shown. Insert the motor until the base of the motor it tight against he motor support. Tighten both set screws on the hub. Shelby winch shown Dutton Lainson winch shown Page 8 Step #10 Align the hydraulic motor with the hose ports positioned as shown and insert (2) 1/2” x 3/8” shoulder bolts through the motor support and screw them into the threaded holes on the hydraulic motor base. Tight the shoulder bolts. The bolts must slide freely through the motor support. Align the motor shaft to the hub assembly and tighten the (2) 3/8” carriage bolts that hold the motor support. Once installed, tighten these bolts and nuts. Shelby winch shown Dutton Lainson winch shown Page 10 Step #12 Remove the shipping plugs from the hydraulic motor. Install the #10 o-ring to #6 jic fittings into the motor ports and tighten. These are o-ring fittings that should be tight, but not overtightened. Install the 3/8” x 72” hydraulic hoses as shown. Make sure to use thread sealer on the male (Pioneer) couplers. Shelby winch shown Use thread sealer on coupler threads Dutton Lainson winch shown Page 11 Step #13 Place the winch assembly back on the support bracket that is attached to the auger infeed housing and re-insert the bent pin. Adjust the winch angle so the cable will wrap in the center of the winch drum. Center the guard mount bracket between the sides of the winch and tighten the (3) 3/8” carriage bolts and flange nuts. Install the guard with (2) 3/8” x 3/4” hex flange bolts. Shelby winch shown Dutton Lainson winch shown Page 12 Step #14 After attaching hydraulic couplers to the tractor, engage the hydraulic control valve momentarily and check for oil leaks. If leaks are detected inspect and repair as necessary. DO NOT PLACE FINGERS OR HANDS CLOSE TO THE LEAK THIS COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY! Step #13 With the tractor hydraulic valve engaged, check the rotation of the winch, make sure that the motor is turning the correct direction to wind the cable in and that the cable is being wound in the center of the winch drum. Never stand under or close to the winch and hopper when raising the hopper! Assembly is complete Additional Safety and Operation Notes: Operation of this option will require care not to over-raise the cable past the limits of the lift arm pulleys. Failure to operate this option within the range of the cable, could cause damage to equipment. This option is equipped with a 1/8” x 1.5” cotter pin shear pin, should the hopper be raised above the limits of the lift arm. If the cotter pin shear pin is sheared, the brake winch will not allow the hopper to fall. The shear pin will need to be replaced prior to operation of the winch assembly. Only use a 1/8” cotter pin, failure to do so could result in damage the winch, cable, pulleys, or hopper! Replace the cotter pin by removing the drive hub guard and rotating the hydraulic motor until the shear pin hole are alined, then insert the cotter pin and bend bolt ends so the pin cannot fall out. There are multiple holes in the drive hub that can be used replace the shear pin. The (3) 1/4” x 3/4” flange bolts that hold the winch drive hub halves together must remain loose enough to allow the hub halves to rotate freely should the cotter pin be sheared. Do not tighten these are spaced correctly from the factory. Replace the guard after shear pin has been replaced. Do not operate with guard missing! The hydraulic winch option can be used on either side of the auger, the same as the manual winch. Page 13 REV AUGER MODEL(S) ALL SWING HOPPER AUGERS PART/ASSEMBLY DESCRIPTION HYD.
