Local Contracts Updates
Construction
Tiffany Construction Contract is complete and should be done in a week or so. There were raises to the wages
as well as pension. Health and Welfare was also secured for the 3 year term of the contract.
Cemex has picked up and doing some hiring. They have just received a shipment of new 2015 Mixers. The
issue with the pension has been resolved and the company is issuing individual statements on a monthly basis
showing all Pension contributions. We will be going into negotiations shortly with this company and hope to do
well with the improvements in the economy,

Cemex has created a program for job sight safety called Job Safe. The two individuals responsible for seeing it
through and spreading it throughout the company as well as the country are two long term Teamsters shown
below.

Job safe stickers have been put on all the Redi Mix trucks within the Company. Other
Companies have been shown the project and have adopted it for their own use. Since Safety is
the main objective, Cemex has not claimed any rights to the content of the brochure and/or
presentation making it possible for other industries to adapt the material to suit their
specific needs. Again, this was created and moved forward by 2 Teamsters with the help and
support of the company. Should anyone be interested please contact the Teamsters Local 104

the last few years. Hopefully the positive relationship continues.

good. The company just purchased a 1.4 million dollar machine that can do some pretty amazing things with
steel. Below are some pics of the members and the equipment in the shop.

good language and benefit package. The Union is looking to keep this intact and /or improve on what is already
there.

Hertz Corporation
We are going through some changes at this company. Mainly some policies that had not been enforced are now
being enforced. The problem is that members had been working under one method for years and that can’t be
changed overnight. I have met with the Regional V.P. as well as all of the local management to work on a way
to implement things in a fair fashion for the members. I have also met with the members in groups as well as
individually. I will keep you posted on any progress. Below are a couple pictures of our members at Hertz.

Veolia Transportation, which runs the North and South yards for the City of Phoenix received 60 new CNG New Flyer
buses. These buses run exclusively out of the North facility which was recently renovated after a 14 month City of
Phoenix project. The employees now have a newly renovated facility to work out of, which a great relief considering the
age and the condition of the building before the refurbishment. The City of Phoenix plans on adding 40 new buses into the
fleet over the next several years. Receiving new buses is always an advantage for our members as it adds the need of
employee training on the advanced mechanisms and it also provides a more comfortable ride for the customers!
Sysco Foods.
This Company is going through a purchase of US Foods at this time. There have been many challenges
regarding this issue and I will keep you informed as much as possible in the time to come. Sysco has started a
warehouse to driver program for its employees. It lets a warehouseman receive the training needed to become a
driver which in turn opens a position in the warehouse.
Fransisco Graduating
John Howard graduating and getting his CDL and moving to the Transportation Department
I’m happy to announce that we have reintroduced our “Warehouse to Driver” program. For those of you who
are unfamiliar with this program, it allows qualifying warehouse associates to obtain a Commercial Driver
License (CDL) and learn the fundamentals of the Sysco Delivery process. Internal candidates who use this
channel often make excellent delivery associates, as they already know Sysco’s warehousing procedures (and
their impact on delivery activities), and also have substantial product knowledge. This shortens the learning
curve, helping them become productive and accurate delivery associates very quickly.
Sysco Corporation envisions that the distribution community will continue to face the ongoing challenge of
driver recruitment, and that this will continue to be a challenge for years to come.
The American Trucking Association estimates that the overall trucking industry will have a shortage of some
100,000 drivers over the next decade.
Industry experts point out the following challenges: An aging driver workforce: the average age of a CDL
holder is 42, while one in six is over the age of 55.
Industry growth: Projected growth for the trucking industry is six percent while the driver population is
increasing at less than one percent.
In the business of foodservice distribution, quality drivers are crucial to maintaining excellent customer
satisfaction and loyalty. With Mimi’s Café and The Hilton Group coming on board in the first quarter of our
next fiscal year, it’s extremely important we support this growth by continuing to expand our total number of
delivery associates. The Warehouse to Driver program is one way for Sysco Arizona to deal with the ongoing
challenge of driver recruitment and support all the new business expected next year.
