Presents
Presents,
1 Matthias Weischer's show at TAJAN is the first major presentation of his work in France and manages to bring together works from the last 15 years. At the turn of the Millennium, Weischer developed mainly interior paintings, through which he rapidly achieved a widespread reputation. Since then, his work continued to evolve and develop which led him to a variety of themes and materials. In the show at TAJAN there will be oil paintings (1999‐2014) of different scales, pulp paintings (2011‐
2014) and sculptures. Weischer never focuses on one direction only, but in spite of all the variations in terms of content and form, some kind of connecting thread is always visible. The tangible reality of the artworks, which is brought out by the heavy / paste quality application of the paint or the paper pulp reveals an intrinsic material effect. Through painting, he is able to speak to all senses and thereby to convey the imaginary space in an infinitely refined and differentiated way. By revisiting repeatedly and analytically classic themes such as the landscape or the interior, he manages to constantly bring out new and fresh elements which emphasize and reinforce the eternally contemporary aspects of these themes. His approach is playful and all the results are what might be called provisionally imaginary. There are no certainties ‐ things can develop in any conceivable directions. In Paris, Weischer is presenting a rich body of work, which is showing for the first time the full bandwidth of his work as it evolved during the last 15 years in terms of content, techniques and materials employed. 2 Matthias Weischer
